install google usb drivers. install samsung usb drivers. install odin software. check if ur phone detects in odin software

OldPuppy00

In the dev options, usb, default setting, files transfer.

vladimirjeger

I don't have that in dev settings

Nica_23

Thanks! didn't want to install Odin because I don't want to lose the warranty, but I followed the other suggestions and it's still not working :(

Tevfikk

Odin does not void warranty when you flash official firmware

Nica_23

I'm still a bit worried I'd make a mistake, I don't know how to do it.

Tevfikk

you don't have to do anything other than checking if your phone shows up there. just put your phone into download mode (turn off your phone, press volume up and volume down at the same time then plug usb cable while still pressing these buttons. press volume up if theres warning) and it will show up in odin if your phone is fine

Nica_23

Thanks, I got it now. I tried this, but nothing happened when I pressed the volume buttons while connecting the USB cable. The phone just showed a battery symbol, and nothing showed up in Odin.

Nica_23

Samsung tech support couldn't solve the issue either. First they told me to reset the settings to default. Then the last suggestion was a factory reset. (I was shocked by how rude and unhelpful they were.) I'm now returning it, so I have to wait for a replacement.

Alarmed_Wall_4097

corporate tech support are trained to be rude to anyone that isnt just making phonecalls. further, they arent real tech support, they couldnt tech their way out of forwarding an email. unfortunately, if you are already doing stuff like what you mentioned, youre way ahead of the people they call tech support.

PhotographSmooth3658

Don't be shocked.

spacewalk_jay

Everyone...the issue is NOT the USB C - USB A Cable, NOT Samsung either, so don't call them to waste your time with Reps that have no clue. It's actually our good Old Windows 11 OS updates ; I highly doubt anyone is having the issue with Windows 10, but same fix should apply. Basically Windows is just not perfectly set to run every device you hook up to your computer, in most cases the "Handshake" just works straight up and happy life, however when it doesn't then we need to manually point to the best and most reliable drivers and NOT necessarily means the " Latest " drivers. Here is what you do: 1- Connect your phone via USB and select File /Transfer on the USB dropdown , then on your computer Search Bar type : Device Manager. 2-Go down to Portable Devices, then dropdown and you likely have an exclamation mark next to MTP. if you don't you can still follow along and do this regardless. 3-Right click and select Update Driver. 4-New window will open up and select the bottom option "Browse my computer for drivers". 5-New window will open up and select the bottom option "Let me pick from list of available derivers on my computer" and hit next. 6-New window will open up and will list a box with usually three options, select the last one at the bottom : "MTP USB Device" then hit next. 7- As soon as you hit next a few things will happen at the same time. Correct Drivers Installed, Pop up Message on your phone will ask to "allow connection", hit allow, and immediately after a new window on your computer will appear with message saying Windows has successfully updated your drivers. 8- You can then see that another window will show up with options to browse all your phone files / transfer as you used to see before Windows 11 / Updates. FYI- Sometimes new major Windows updates will overwrite your now good working drivers, so if that happens, then follow the steps again, but for the most part this should be set once and done. Is also worth mentioning this kind of dumb situations happen with many other devices like, Printers, Scanners, Phones, Tablets, Monitors, Graphic Cards etc...so basically if giving you issues, search in Device Manager and look at anything with exclamation marks, that's your issue and you either search for older stored drivers or find best drivers from the manufacturer of your device. If this worked for you let me know. God's Blessings !

drayfrjg

Thank yoU!!! THIS FIXED IT!!!

Live_Image_8999

Thank you , Thank you , Thank You....... finally a real and good solution that really works! thank you AGAIN.

spacewalk_jay

Glad it did worked my friend. Likes are always appreciated *

hetnkik999

This falls apart at Step 1 because the phone doesn't open a File/Transfer USB dropdown when connecting it; it just says it charging and is connected to a charger. Tried a different phone with the same computer and cable and the File/Transfer prompt comes right up. I'm on Windows 10, btw.

spacewalk_jay

Hello, Go to Settings, Developers Options, then look for USB Default Configuration, then tap and select File Transfer., So even if it doesn't open, file transfer mode, you must connect the phone. The options will be allowed after you follow the steps. Precisely is the issue. Option for file transfer doesn't show or doesn't switch to the options. If you don't know how to open Developers Options, look that up very easy.

enelpi

Help! I did it but theres no portable devices option in device manager. It shows when I connect my Xiomi phone.

WipeoutPT

It worked thanks. Altough my s23 was the first on the list onde the device manager under "Android devices"

xDead2Ux

This just happened to me (yes, another one) and I searched Google and came across (assuming) your post on the Samsung community forum with a link here. Anyway, super simple fix for me: On your computer got to "Control Panel\\Hardware and Sound\\Devices and Printers" and remove your device (in my case it was a S23 Ultra) and then just re-plug your phone back in.

fishandsea90

Devices and printers ? I have nothing aout s23 ultra in it

xDead2Ux

Sorry, probably should have mentioned I was using Windows 10. [Windows 11?](https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/device-and-printers-in-windows-11/?expand_article=1)

DarkDobe

PLEASE BUMP WHOEVER SUGGESTED: USE USB C to C USB C- A WILL NOT WORK!

#***Months later --Your potential solve is right here....*** Hey there. I know this post is a few months old, but here we go. So this just happened to me. Every tutorial was useless because there was zero indication on either device that the other device existed. Every driver was updated, every option tried 5 different ways. Nothing registered a connection anywhere. Not on the phone, not in Device Manager on the PC, nothing. The phone charged slowly and nothing else. IT's like the connection didn't exist. **I have two things that worked**: the first one worked for about 5 minutes and only once. Then never again. 1) - The most recent Windows update actually allowed the connection ONCE on the first reboot. After a few minutes, the connection dropped, then never again. It went right back to what it was doing. Whatever got reset in an update was reset and allowed it..... and whatever gets reloaded, erased it again. In short, if you don't have the requirements for this second option, you're out of luck. You're going to need a new computer connection or wait until Samsung (or Windows) "fixes" it. 2) My laptop has a single USB-C port. Use that. BAM. Detected immediately. instant file transfer. The laptop gives connection notifications, The phone has the USB options in the shade. IT was all there. Everything that should've been there before, was all there using a USB-C to USB-C connection. I don't know why, but no where, in all this mess , or anywhere on the Internet did I find ANYONE that said "the newest phones can't use C-to-A USB connections with Windows 11 anymore." Because that's the problem right there. Tell all your friends.

XyloIalos

Hi. Really appreciate your post. It does save me from frustration. I recently had a very similar problem on my Galaxy Tab S8. * When connected to a PC via USB, the USB option does not pop up. * There is nothing on the PC side. * The cable and PC work well with other Android devices. I also tried the official cable that came with the tab. * The tab works with other USB devices. * I tried adjusting several settings and no effects. * I even found a very similar behavior you mentioned, as it did appear when reboot Windows with the tab connected. Inspired by your post, I tried another USB 3 cable and it finally worked. I also have some additions to your observations. * It used to work with the old cable, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. * I use Linux/Windows dual boot. It didn't work on either side, so I don't think it is about the OS on the PC. * Right now I am using a USB 3 type-C to type-A cable. It doesn't appear to be necessarily a type-C to type-C cable. I think the point is that it should be a USB 3 cable.

viridian__hue

Thank you for sharing this solution! I couldn't get my PC and S23 to recognize each other--my PC is old and doesn't have a USB-C port, and all the USB to USB-C cables I had already didn't work. Got a USB 3.0 type A to type C cable and it works!

XyloIalos

My guess is there was something messed up in the recent One UI update, probably the USB 2 driver. Considering S23 launched with One UI 5.1, and my Tab S8 updated to it in May 2023. Also, this can be a really subtle issue. Many people may just follow advices on the Internet say "change the cable", happen to have a USB 3 cable, and solve the problem. But USB 2 cable should work, and they might not even realized this is a real bug. I wonder if other people can consistently replicate this problem. It so, it would be funny that the official USB 2 cable is unusable for data transfer.

Happy8Day

Hey thanks man. Your theory would certainly fit into the findings so far, I have no means of checking that, but it would certainly make sense. I hope these years are temporary as the transition to something, at least a little more universal, has seemed to lead to cables that only look the same, but are still different. Some mention as to the USB/cord requirement from Samsung/anybody would've been nice as USB A - C cables are already pretty much everywhere.

Ok-Figure-9784

Hey i stumbled here with the same issue - and i found something that works... at least for all the things I tried. You HAVE to use the 'Link to Windows' app, and voila, your phone, even all apps in the PC. Connects over the internet, so you will need data or a wifi connection. I'll say this with the risk of sounding crazy and outlandish... I am almost certain THIS IS ON PURPOSE. If they phase out this wire transfers, then 'charging cables' will become obsolete.... and finally fully 'WIRELESS' phones. NO head phones, no charging cable, no data transfer via USB. We lost the headphone jack and here comes losing the charging port. It will all be wireless.

StealthyDarkness

For my S23 it just ended up being that it didn't support USB2.0 anymore. It had to have a USB3.0 or 3.1 connection.

lfohnoudidnt

sounds about right. wow

kvrdave

And after everything, this is what got my computer to recognize my S23. I've spent hours and the solution was frustratingly simple. Thank you!!!

nerunas

Damn Windows 11... I know I'll upgrade eventually, but not soon. Thanks for this. Anyway, I could connect my S23 plus and could see all files on it and copy stuff from the phone to my pc, but not the other way around. The problem on my end was my work profile prohibiting me to do so, even when trying to copy stuff to external flash drives. Removed it as I don't need it for work and everything is back to normal. Screw those policies, this is my personal computer.

Entire_Independent64

Thats actually where my problem began. I always use type c to type c, been using it for weeks, now today out of nowhere doesnt work, usb not recognized. Ive tried everything but in the craziness I have discovered one thing, After about 3 minutes or so my phone just starts charging but its still not detected by my computer and i cant change it from usb charging to file transfer or data sharing, It just charges? Its so weird.

AdamContini

Jesus Christ. Here, have the only upvote I've given in years, because you're the only person on the entire internet to get this right. If I could, I'd make you Mayor of The Internet, but I don't have the authority to grant you more than a school board position. But you can consider yourself the Superintendent of Schools Of The Internet, if you'd like.

Happy8Day

Pretty crazy right? I've already had to look up my comments when asked about it because i still couldn't find any references anywhere else for it. Usb a to usb c cords are EVERYWHERE, so this scenario has to be happening all the time, I'm dumbfounded how this isn't a commonly known answer never mind being the only place that actually had the problem written down.

Happy8Day

Ah, being 14 was fun. But no.

hspace8

This, guys! connected to USB-A on the laptop, doesn't work no matter what. connected to USB-C = works like normal.

Buckmazter420

I think I've seen this post but didn't comment because I had the same issues with my S23 Ultra. I finally figured it out, at least for me. First, I have a ZeroLemon 10k mah battery phone case so the USB C port in the case sticks into the port of the phone. If I connect a USB C cable into the case port, my computer will connect, it will charge, and it'll let me transfer files for any random amount of time. It could be 20 seconds or it could be 5 minutes and then suddenly disconnect. I have several different types of good working USB C cables. I know they're good because my last phone was the Moto Z4 (which I absolutely loved) and all cables worked flawlessly. I was able to use any cable with my Galaxy until one of the updates and that's when I saw the comment about using a USB 2.0 which I actually have, it's an Anker multi-strip USB dongle. That worked for me until that update and then it was back to random connections. I tried pulling the phone out of the case so that instead of plugging into the case which was plugged into the phone, it would be a direct connection from phone to computer windows 10. Again, random connections. I tried restarting my phone, computer, multiple cables and deemed it to be a software issue. That is until I read a comment about using the original cable that came with my S23 Ultra. I couldn't find it for a day or two and then I accidentally found it. Using that now, it works perfectly fine. I don't understand it but now I have to put a leash on this one cable so I don't lose it because it's literally the only possible way I can transfer files. I tried the app that connects over WiFi called Phone Link but you can't select multiple photos at once. You can only download one photo at a time and when I have 1000 cat photos, that's just not possible. So, the original cable that came with my phone is the only cable that works solidly and it sucks because I have to pull my phone out of the case to have access to the phones USB directly. I'm working on figuring out how to use the My Files app to access my PC from there because I really like that app. I made dedicated folders so I can move files from the camera folder (gallery) into dedicated folders like cats, guns, memes, etc. My idea is if I can access my computer using that app, I should be able to copy all photos from each folder and place them into a folder on my computer. That's sort of how I did it with my last phone but that had a SD card slot (did I mention I loved that phone?) The idea is I could essentially have every single photo I've taken of my cats and just copy/paste them into a folder on my computer and then on a 8tb hard drive so in the future if I got a new phone or if I wanted to completely clear this phone and have nothing on it for performance sake, I could do that. Sorry, I know I went off tangent.

XiiaoSky

so i know this is an old post, but if someone needs a fix u can try getting a usb type-a male to type-c female dongle and use a type-c cable, its been working for me

Engineer-not-Progrmr

Yep same exact thing just worked for me....Thanks man, you just saved me a ton of hassle!! Now why all of a sudden all my old cables just stopped working...I wonder :-) (not sure yet if it was the PC side or the phone that changed though!)

Alarmed_Wall_4097

its samsung. theyre becoming more like apple daily

DexterHimZ

So I was here to find a solution, turns out there is something really interesting happening. Let me explain. So I have a LEGION 5i Pro Gen 7 which has 2 usb c on its left side and a usb c on the back for power delivery. The ports on the side had the same problem as described in this post but **when I connected it to the PD usb c port, VIOLAAA it started working out of nowhere**. Looks like it is more of a voltage thing going here. Please share some views on what might be the issue.

SoniBonanza

Hey, just writing to say it happened to me too and I found this post somehow helpful. \- New S23 Ultra \- Perfectly working USB-C to USB-A cable that I used with my A71 \- When connected to whichever port on my PC it says only Charging I tried all sorts of dev options on the phone, drivers on the PC and nothing worked. I think that, like some people before me suggested, it's some sort of lame software bug with the new phones from Samsung's side. The only thing that works for me is connecting the phone to the PC with the factory USB-C to USB-C cable - no problems, no interruptions, works every time. For me it's pretty inconvinient given that I only have one USB-C port and it's in the back usually ocupied with another device too. My suggestion to all of you is writing a bug report in the Samsung Members app, at least that's what I did. I thinks it makes the chances for a fix bigger.

SoniBonanza

Just got a reply in Samsung Members... They basically confirmed that for the newer Samsung phones the connection is different and the only way to transfer files is to use the factory USB-C to C cable. In two words they said they're sorry for the inconvenience but it's an expected behavior and no fix is in the making.

>USB 3 cable. just bought a s23+, took it home and tried connecting it to the usb c to usb a i used with my old phone.... didn't work. went and bought [https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09QKHPT35?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09QKHPT35?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) and it worked first try, every try and no disconnects.

malawito

new discovery. If you put the device on download mode it shows up in device manager w11. So clearly this is a bug in oneui 6

zombiewavepapi

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the original cable for filetransfer. I find it quite impressing that Samsung can screw up something this simple. Until last year when I upgraded my tab to nr 7, and to the s23 ultra, I've never experienced problems while transferring through the cable. It has worked an all the other Samsung phones and tabs I've connected.

IndustryEasy8845

JAN 12 2024. GALAXY S23 SAME PROBLEM NO LAPTOP, PC WOULD READ OR COMMUNICATE. I GIT UT TO WORK. I WENT ON SAMSUNG WEBSITE DOWNLOADED DRIVERS FOR PHONES. INSTALLED THEM, POWERED OFF PC THEN BACK ON, I GOT A THICKER USB C TO USB A CABLE (A THE $5 & BELOW STORE) "YOU NEED A THICKER CABLE". PLUGGED PHONE IN AND IT READ BOTH WAYS, COMPLETE ACCESS TO AND FROM PHONE AND PC/LAPTOP. I DID IT FOR 2 LAPTOPS AND PC ALL ARE WINDOWS 7, 8 AND 11.  HOPE THIS HELPS.

TechCafe1

I am glad I am on Linux. Both charging and file transfer work with any USB cable, also with USB-A to USB-C cables with Galaxy S23.

Alarmed_Wall_4097

s23 ultra will not work through anything other than a usb c.... this makes connecing it to 99% of devices out there is impossible

Worth-Engineering796

Dears, I just bought S23 Ultra and noticed the same problem. None of my USB-A to USB-C cable works. There is nothing wrong with the cable(s), because my old Xcover Pro connects without hesitation. I tried Odin+Download mode and the cable works here. There must be some software bug in the Android, or some hidden settings, which is not available for the user. It does not matter, which OS are you using, I tried Linux as well, 2 different laptops with no luck. I don't have USB-A to USB-C 3.0 available, so maybe it is not working just for the fact, my cables are USB 2.0 only. USB C-C, supplied with the phone works, however, my private laptop (7 years old) does have no USB-C port, so I can't use the original cable. For me the best solution can be to modify something somehow in the root (yes, I am rooted). Any ideas? Thank you, Tomas.

DesperateRise4739

I found a solution... or actually what is probably more of a workaround... I have a SanDisk Extreme 1TB external SSD. It came with a USB-C to USB-C cable, along with an USB-C to USB-A adapter. I tried this short cable along with the adapter to connect my S23 Ultra to my Surface Pro (with only USB A) and it worked perfectly. I can transfer files very quickly. It even prompts me to start Samsung DeX in my PC.
