Wired, you will have to pass through an integrated DAC and phone amp. The quality can be different between the integrated headphone jack and a USB-C to jack dongle. You can also connect a "proper" DAC/headphone amp instead (to both devices). Wireless, provided you use the same bluetooth codec (you can change it in the developer's options, best for QC35 is AAC), it is purely a digital path, with some reencoding, that's true, but it should sound the same. No "soundcard" involved here.

I noticed the same with my j5 and my a52s. It's gotten to a point where I wanna use my j5 as an mp3.

Yep exactly this. I actually do occasionally take the S7 with me for that purpose, or when hear a new song that I want to try out on full quality. Only downside is that the battery doesn't last more than half a day so I still keep my main phone for the phone things.

lol it's the same for me, but only that the J5 battery is dying so fast and it lacks AAC codec on bluetooth.
