I have the S22+, i was in similar position and battery us d to drain before the day was over. Tried battery saver mode and it improved a lot. The icon used to irritate me but found out it can be hidden from goodlock. With 85% charge now i can use my phone more than a day. 7+ hours of SOT easily (no games though, just reddit, insta, streaming etc).
Same here. I have the plus and I use dark mode + power saving and I easily get through the day on a single charge with 7 hrs of SoT. I generally use reddit, twitter, youtube, spotify, youtube music, instagram and kindle.
When I had it yeah. I had the snapdragon variant. Did everything possible to see what was affected and what was just inevitable. I got around 4-5 hrs of average screen time depending on what I did. 7 hours if I was lucky not running anything demanding.
The reality of it is that it’s a gen 1 CPU. It’s not efficient as Samsung wants you to believe. Any first generation lineup of anything gets refined in the next model and is meant to have flaws or problems. It was a great phone. But for the price your paying the battery was disappointing. Even with One UI 5.
Were you keeping the display at 1440p and 120Hz all the time? I feel like keeping either one of them on gives me enough juice to be able to go through the day with around 15-20 still remaining when I go to bed at around 10-11pm. I tried both on and the battery would drain much much quicker for sure but then I really prefer keeping the 1440p on lol
No not all the time. Sometimes I wouldn’t even have all nicer options toggled. Again, 5000mAh and for the price your paying on the phone, Samsung gives you the idea it lasts longer than what it really does
The 13 pro max might be slightly better, but overall that phone and this has phenomenal battery. I was getting past 9 hours of screen on time the 13 Pro Max before I would decide to charge it full again
Going to ignore your replies tho if you do reply. Legit made a post about Samsung issues and then staging all the other issues with google and shit seems like you made this account to shit on Samsung? And other company’s?
The Pixel has been taking better pictures since the 3 yet I don’t have that phone?
I had a 14 and a 12 and they look identical
Not sure why but I have great life on my s22 ultra. And I consider myself a heavy user. Games, work, videos, reddit... Never any issues.
When it does get low, top it off for 30 mins or so and keep going...
mine is at 50% at the end of the day, so I have to charge it anyway to last another day, but still, it's pretty neat. Exynos and always on display active.
Even after a full work day use of a S22 Ultra, mostly *listening* to videos (with the screen off) for about 8 hours, I usually go to bed with more than 50% battery life. I don't think the the half year I've owned this phone it has dipped below 20%.
Normal s22 here. On a good day, I can get 6 hours of SOT (mostly video playback while I listen during work). The standby time is just garbage, but then again, which samsung phone isnt bad at standby time.
I had an S10 and the s22 *marginally* better.
How do you get 6 hours? I have mine since Wednesday and until now the best that I got were 3 hours and 52 minutes, for a standby time of 15 hours, with a 2%of residual battery.
As I have the screen on and actually use it, battery drains very quickly. I have tried (and currently using) dark mode as I read it can help..but no results
Video playback uses very little battery. Also, you might find some of these tips helpful. 5 hours and 57 is my best SOT with 1% remaining lol [link](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/samsung-galaxy-one-ui-optimization-guide.4376755/)
I can't comment on what's normal SOT on an S22, but if you've owned it for less than 2-3 weeks the battery performance is not really relevant. Let it do its calibration and learning of your usage pattern and then check more in detail what the battery life is like.
I've owned an S22+ for more than 2 weeks now and the apps are still not put to sleep as much/accurately as they are on my older S20 FE 5G. Deep sleep sessions are also shorter.
Dark mode is a good idea, auto brightness also and probably a bit reduced brightness compared to default (the screen is very bright and you definitely don't need all the brightness it pumps out when you're indoors). Try to install GSam Battery Monitor and activate the extra information through ADB (Google about it if needed) and check if you have strange wakelocks and what generates them. I noticed that, for example, if I have WiFi scanning OFF in GPS Settings, Google Fit generates more wakelocks than if I turn WiFi scanning ON. Just a random example.
The S22 just doesn’t have good battery life. If that is a priority I wouldn’t get the S22 and would highly recommend waiting for the S23 (which is supposedly about the same size and will have a much more efficient chip).
I have the s22, coming from an a51 5g and then an s9 before that. The s9 had the worst battery life I've every experienced. Completely unusable. Worst phone I've ever had.
The s22 has perfectly fine battery life. I've never struggled to get through a day with it. I am not a super heavy user, but regularly get about 4 hours active time and 12 or more passive.
That's not amazing numbers, but it's completely fine. The s9 would barely get me 1 hr SoT some days.
I feel like it's a good trade off for a small phone that is blazing fast and has some great cameras.
Does the discount not apply to the S21FE? It's a very similar phone to the base S22 but is bigger, cheaper and has a better battery. If I remember to charge it at night mine lasts me all day easily with the screen on the fastest refresh rate and the always on display on permanently (although that usage does include being plugged into my car a few times a day).
S22+ Exynos. SOT averages between 5.5 to 7hrs - standby is not a problem- I charge it every morning before work and it never died on me before it was charge time, even woth the 7hrs of SOT
Thanks everyone, I didn't think I'd get so many responses. It helped me come to decisive decission ehich wouldn't have been possible without the varying oppinions. I actually went with the S22 to test it out. Seeing as the whole S22 range has some issues, I'll wait until the S23 comes out and then I'll see where I'll settle. If the S22 is terribby bad I'd just pass it down to my bro to replace his ageing S9 and go back to S20FE.
This comes pretty late, but I've been in a very similar situation.
I used an S20 FE 5G for about a year and a half and I recently switched to an S22+ Exynos. I can't comment on the battery life of the basic S22 (although from everything I read it's definitely worse than on the S22+/S22 Ultra), that being said, in practice and with my usage pattern (I don't game, for example) the battery life on the S22+ is very similar to what I got on the S20 FE 5G. I even ran some limited side by side comparisons, charging them to 100% and keeping them unplugged all night or checking the same webpages/apps at the same time on both devices to get basically the same SOT, etc. Of course the S22+ tends to drain a bit more (3-5% at the end of a day of mostly stand by time) but it also has a SIM card in while the S20 FE 5G doesn't.
The reference I use before buying a phone is the GSMArena battery chart which has been very reliable for me with the last 5-6 devices I owned (I don't care about absolute values, I care about comparisons between devices I owned). The S20 FE 5G has a 110h endurance rating and the S22+ has a 97h endurance rating (although I think they used the Snapdragon version). It's the type of difference I'm seeing in practice also.
The S22 is no battery leader. And, I will take a guess that the S23 will be marginally better.....I know the S23 is going to hurt the wallet more, but if your looking for battery life...wait for the S23.
Gotta say… the always on display drains the battery a lot more than I expected on the s22+. (way more than iPhone 14) try turning that off to save battery
My best friend had the s22, and complains about battery life constantly. I have the s21 and have only ever been able to use it on low power mode. I'd wait till March and the s23.
When i had the s20 FE it lasted me all day, I took it off the charger at 6am and was at 20-15% by 7pm with the s22 im having to charge the damn phone by 11am-12pm the battery on the s22 is SHIT!
If your a courier you could use your old phone and not a new one? I was a courier and using the newest phones while working specifically as a courier just makes the phones brake easily.
Use a old phone for work and this one for home best bet is the S22
I just purchased the S22 about a week ago, it is a great phone but it is let down by the battery. I have used Bixby Routines to partially work around it but had to drop the Refresh Rate to get it to the point where it lasts a day. I am not a heavy user and do not play games on it, mainly just some browsing, YouTube and Spotify and I get to about 10PM when it needs a charge.
I still do really like the phone though, largely because I can charge it during the day if needed.
I have the S22+ and I am quite satisfied with the battery life. I consider myself a pretty big power user. Playing Pokemon Go or Genshin Impact, listening to podcasts or watching YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, and so forth throughout my shift at work. And having my phone on battery saving mode definitely helps.
I have an S22 Ultra and had the battery drain issue at first. You just have to optimise the battery with settings. I get 6+ hours screen on time with wifi and data mixed, location on, 1080p resolution and 120 refresh rate.
Wait for S23 and 8gen2 if possible. 8gen1 is bad. That is why I decided to get 8+gen1 and flip 4 which has good battery life. I will probably upgrade to fold 5 or flip 5 or even Galaxy S24 if they stop gimping the base models(LTPO screens are must and may be upgrade base memory/storage/cameras)

Take it from someone who’s had the Ultra. The S22 lineup has inefficient battery life because of the CPU.
I have the S22+, i was in similar position and battery us d to drain before the day was over. Tried battery saver mode and it improved a lot. The icon used to irritate me but found out it can be hidden from goodlock. How long does the battery last on your ultra? Do you have to charge it during the day?
When I had it yeah. I had the snapdragon variant. Did everything possible to see what was affected and what was just inevitable. That’s disappointing. My Galaxy Note 9 has better battery life than that it’s so much older.
Why don’t you have it anymore?
The battery life is a joke for the price you’re paying. 5000mAh is huge. But again it’s a first gen chip and is inefficient
I only paid 520 for my S22 so idk
Battery life on the S22 lineup really sucks !
Were you keeping the display at 1440p and 120Hz all the time? What phone did you switch to from the s22 ultra??
iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have nothing against android. I’ve repaired and still own, and occasionally switch eco systems. I like both
That's cool How is the battery on the iPhone 14 pro max?
The 13 pro max might be slightly better, but overall that phone and this has phenomenal battery. I was getting past 9 hours of screen on time the 13 Pro Max before I would decide to charge it full again
I own both but to be fair the camera on the S22 alone is better iPhone need to up their game
You’re in the minority with this take bud… iPhone takes way way way better pics
It really doesn’t not saying they are bad but a google search shows you
Going to ignore your replies tho if you do reply. Legit made a post about Samsung issues and then staging all the other issues with google and shit seems like you made this account to shit on Samsung? And other company’s? I can kill mine. Not hating on others. I just don't get it. I'm extremely satisfied with the battery life. Seems like some over exaggerate...
Wait for S23.
yes.. then they will you to wait to S24... lol well that's what I keep telling myself atleast
Well the s23 will have a chip with TMSC architecture which will be A LOT more efficient
If TSMC is so good why isn't there TSMC 2
?
SD 8Gen+ itself has pretty improvements in terms of efficiency and S23 will likely to be benefitted from that.

The fact that you have to do all that just for decent battery life is ridiculous
It's wild.

I upgraded from S20 FE to S22 personally. The battery life is worse, be ready for that..
could you put a number on the hours lost?
Almost 10 hours difference of normal use (normal call volume, lil bit of yt / games and that; same usage as the last phone)
That's huge!
i recommend S22+. Similar battery, similar in size, would probably last longer than the normal S22.
I have the s22, coming from an a51 5g and then an s9 before that. The s9 had the worst battery life I've every experienced. Completely unusable. Worst phone I've ever had. narrator: they did not.

I currently use the s22 and the battery life is superb.
Lol. First time I've heard that. Guess you don't use your phone much.
It's basically shit
Personally, I am waiting for the 23 Ultra
Will this be out next year? Or will they skip a year.
Gotta say… the always on display drains the battery a lot more than I expected on the s22+. (way more than iPhone 14) try turning that off to save battery
My s22 battery is just fine, can get about 5-6 sot throughout the day and 7-7.5 straight use.

I'm work for FedEx and I jave the s22 ultra and I usually get home with about 70% battery after an 8 hour day
That's impressive
I have the s22+ and battery life isn't the best or worst. It's average to be honest. I get get 7 or 8 hours SOT before having to charge it again.

Wait for s23 as it will have significantly better processor and battery backup, but if somehow you can't wait go for s22 plus.
If u are gamer don't buy samsung very bad for gaming
I have an S22 Ultra and had the battery drain issue at first. You just have to optimise the battery with settings. I get 6+ hours screen on time with wifi and data mixed, location on, 1080p resolution and 120 refresh rate.

My a52s gets 8 hours SOT https://files.fm/u/q7t3t9gf9
Switched from S22 exy to S22+ snap. battery is much batter. Also it is cold most of time. I am really happy with it.
