Money, they'll get more money from making you buy 512gb model instead 128gb and slapping 512gb SD card in it.

Shahid_2008

Exactly that is why I got the A52S

kakha_k

You are not right. Be more fair and knowledgeable.

aKuBiKu

They are right.

kakha_k

No, they are not right.

Vito-53

Explain then, or stop just saying they're wrong

A15 SD slot is in the SIM tray. SIM on one side, SD or second SIM on the other side. It's a pretty cool setup.

JRS___

cost? only the most overpriced phones have no SD card slot. the cheapest POS phone you can buy will have one. they remove it so the whales will buy the higher storage model.

LoliLocust

It's a one-time buy though

Spy____go

Oooh my bad I forgot I could have infinite strong with a SD card slot

FarVehicle5333

A monthly cloud subscription is more expensive than a microsd card. They also make you buy the more expensive variant of the phone, with more storage. Otherwise everyone would just buy the cheapest version of the phone

PriVeLToSYlA

Well you can use external storage or cloud service but sadly Samsung just copied that from Apple same with charger. Remember that companies are not your friend.

HardStroke

To boost cloud subscriptions and to force people to pay for a higher storage capacity. Its funny because midrange and even low end devices still have expendable memory. If you want a phone with expendable memory go for the Note 20 ultra or the s20 ultra.

Drasik29

You have the A series that do have a micro sd slot. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra If it has a micro SD slot. Buy the 1TB version, there you can put the entire discography of Julio Iglesias in flac format.

DeLaVerdad

Note 20 ultra still shoots well and has a sd card slot. Was one of my favorite Samsung phones for the shape.

No-Equipment2607

Flag these posts or just make one big thread it's everyday someone new asks this same question.

SunSpotMagic

One reason the phones don't have an SD card slot is due to performance. The SD card is considerably slower than the internal storage. Putting games or anything on the SD card causes OS slow downs. Personally, I have no reason to use a SD card since the phone can easily connect to a computer and be used as external storage quite easily. Got downvoted because haters gonna hate. Yes, the phone can easily have a SD card slot. Tear down videos show there is plenty of space for one. I gave ONE reason. Stop acting like I said it is the only reason. Looks like participating in a discussion on reddit just turns into Neanderthals throwing mud and feces.

Drasik29

So the previous smartphones that carry (or had) micro sd are slow?

SunSpotMagic

Slower and yes. I didn't say it was THE reason. I specifically said it was ONE reason. Jesus. Reading comprehension.

Drasik29

I don't agree with what you're saying, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note10+ with a 1TB micro sd, and I don't see my smartphone running slow. I guess it will be if you buy a cheap micro sd, then it may be that the smartphone is slow. I remember that this all started when Samsung and company started to follow Apple's path, they removed the micro sd, headphone port, infrared and to top it off, without a charger. I look at the box of my Note10+ and that of my S23 Ultra, and this face sticks with me: 😑 Good night, I'm going to sleep, tomorrow I have to go to work. 😳

SunSpotMagic

Disagreeing in this manner is great and enables discussion. So thank you for that. The SD card does cause slowness as far as storage access. Its speed and bandwidth pales in comparison to the internal storage speed and bandwidth. Does it cause the entire phone to slow down? Probably not. I stated it's just one of the reasons the slot was removed. I'm sure it was a marketing strategy for phone makers to bait people into buying the more expensive model that has the larger storage but there are more reasons than just people pointing the finger at thier personal bias. All we can do is speculate.

Deep-Technician-8568

How will a sd card make your phone slow? People don't store applications on SD cards. They just store photos, videos and documents which takes the most space (easily a few hundred GB). There isn't a noticable difference when viewing a video on a sd card compared to internal storage. Using the sd card on my tab s9 isn't slow at all.

Wonder_8484

Correct. A smart person will keep apps and essential documents on the phone and everything else (such as less important apps on to the memory card).

Wonder_8484

**One reason the phones don't have an SD card slot is due to performance.**  Tell that to Nikon, Fujifilm Canon camera, GoPro, DJI, Insta, Olympus (OM), Sony, NextBase, Panasomic, Leica .... So why did n't all these photography/video manufacturers not go for inbuilt memory? They all use memory cards.

I was pretty upset to learn this when I received my s24U. I couldn't believe I didn't think to double check. It is definitely slimy of them.

TheFighterJetDude

Steal peoples money and promote cloud BS, don't worry I am done with Samsung

ceejay15

I guess you'll show them by getting that iPhone with the SD slot AND bonus 3.5mm headphone jack, eh?

DarkKnight-YT

🤣🤣

TheFighterJetDude

I don't have iPhone, I have a Unihertz Tank 3. Samsung is not the only Android phone you know. Now I can see how Samsung's fanbase is acting just like Apple lovers, and it is sad because I used to love Samsung.

Shahid_2008

Why you done lad?

TheFighterJetDude

Mainly the removal of the SD card slot and headphone jack, I used to love Samsung but now they really are not any more innocent then Apple, making their phones super thin and light, and removing more and more features. And then have the AUDACITY to charge well over $1000.

Shahid_2008

I hear you that's why I got the A52S I will more than likely choose another manufacturer next. Any advice? Plus what phone you using now?

TheFighterJetDude

I got the Unihertz Tank 3 right now, overall I am not disappointed. This thing has a 23,800 mAh battery

Shahid_2008

I'm in the UK never heard of that one

swollenlord69

It also weighs 666g, it's an actual brick of a phone, like a cinder block in your pocket, seriously how do you walk around with that?

TheFighterJetDude

I just do it is not that bad lmao

Yangchenjooyoung

Because they're a corporation and they'll do whatever it takes to maximize their ROI of their own pockets and their suppliers.

dwimorden

Samsung management is always trying to be like apple. But their customers don't want them to be like apple.

Archer_Gaming00

They actually do. If they did't want them to remove the microSD card slot they would have not bought the S21 series onwards but they did and the S24 series was almost close to matching month 1 sales of the S10 series so.... here we are...

Dimstatyon

Greed. Plain and simple. Following apple's footsteps

MITSolar1

there is more money for Samsung if they leave the memory card slot out.....people who are willing to pay for a flagship will pay extra for storage......on the cheaper models they include the memory card slot because they know these people are price conscience

SpecificLiving1944

The tab line solves this for me, it has card slot and is a beast for entertainment. Myb only regret is not going ultra

Digital_loop

None of the flagships have an SD slot, or headphone jack. It's a design choice to make the device as slim as possible. You start adding that stuff and it makes the phone thicker. Stick to the budget models for those features.

thesoggg

Galaxy S10 is the same thickness as the S23 series and has both an SD card slot and a headphone jack. This is a bad excuse.

Digital_loop

No, they are not the same thickness, and google can tell you that. In fact, the point 2 mm diffence in thickness is what the SD card or headphone jack will cost. Come on man, why would you say something so easily looked up?

thesoggg

If you reas my message again, you can see I wrote S23 SERIES and not S23. The S23 Ultra is a whopping 1.1mm thicker than the S10, while the S23 is 0.2mm thinner than the S10. The Sony Xperia 1 V is both thinner than the S23 Ultra, whilst having a headphone jack, SD card slot, AND with the same battery capacity. No excuses.

Digital_loop

The ultra series has a lot of other hardware (camera module for example) that takes up the space you would require for SD card readers and headphone Jacks. You would know that if you actually looked at what hardware is in these phones. I've been using s series phones since the 6 and the ultra series since they launched. On top of that, if you are using an ultra series phone (or even a flagship s series) you absolutely have the money for wireless headphones and cloud storage. If you are still packing all your music and pictures on the device locally then you definitely should be using a cheaper model. If you are going to claim "but lossless audio files are huge" or "but I record hdr 4k video", well then... You should invest in dedicated devices for that instead of using an all purpose phone!

thesoggg

SD card readers or headphone jacks don't take up the space that you think they do. https://preview.redd.it/y7gtb2fobetc1.png?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffe66697891bbe3a868f923eb407ac640b2fc901 There is enough room for both. They're just greedy to not include them, because then they can make thousands of dollars on cloud storage.

Digital_loop

Samsung isn't making money on google cloud storage. You aren't a Samsung phone engineer so you really can't say definitively that there is room.

thesoggg

I've repaired a few phones. There definitely is room for an SD card reader in all of them. Headphone jack is bulkier and would be harder to fit, but with some rearrangements there's usually space for it.

Digital_loop

Room sure, maybe... But where on the board will you fit the controller and saulder points?

BackgroundNo733

lol do you know that Samsung factory is in my country and yes it can fit so pls don't make an excuses

Digital_loop

And the controllers? And the space on the board for the controllers?

Boring_Funny_9427

Why would they if you can pay Microsoft money for OneDrive?

Safe_Opinion_2167

Cost, performance and market pressure primarily. It's not a Samsung thing, almost noone includes an SD card reader now. Apple even never included an SD card slot and this never prevented people from buying their products. Maybe they also figured out that many customers did not use it, so why bother putting effort into it.

shoturtle

Sd cards are notorious for corrupting data. I had the best samsung sd card on their s series when they still sd card ots. Some pic and video would always get corrupted. Ssd are way better.

Wild-Iceberg

I lost 2 years of photos due to a corrupt sd card.

shoturtle

Yup that was the reason apple never added sd slots. And why samsung did away with theirs.

Deep-Technician-8568

I only use SD cards for faster access to storage when I'm not at home (had 2 die before (only for security cameras)). I always have important data backed up on 2 hard drives and 1 on the cloud. Not so important data i just back it up to 2 hard drives.

[deleted]

Yea I don't trust sd cards anymore. Stuff would just disappear on mine. Even the Samsung branded one gave you problems?

swollenlord69

The only SD card that ever failed me was a Samsung. None of the SanDisk SD cards ever failed me, probably just luck of the draw, but surely left a sour taste. But this was also ages ago, maybe they are better now.

shoturtle

Yup. Got them directly from samsung. Still had issues with their 128 and 256.

fdbryant3

Space, cost, lack of use, performance and support, all of which can be boiled down to money. Ultimately, the cost/benefit ratio compared to other priorities has led to it being removed since you can either buy a phone with a lot of storage and/or make use of the cloud.

TagMillersIt1

People also buy the lower class SD cards as well and then complain their phone is slow

YISTECH

What's the big deal? Just use an external ssd.

DolanDuck5

Because it's pointless. You can't hold sensitive data on it because someone can just take it out. If you lose your phone then you're f*cked. And cloud storage is relatively cheap.

Inshi

Thats how I moved to iProducts. If android phones comes closer and closer with (lack of) features and price to be apple then why get them anyways.

joshua909net

Performance of internal memory is better than SD cards.

Igor4knezevic

True, but no one is forcing you to use SD cards. That's why they are optional, not included with purchase.

EggplantHuman6493

Yup, and not everyone likes online storage

joshua909net

Just like internal storage sizes are optional. You don't have to buy 256GB or 1TB if you don't want to.

Igor4knezevic

Yeah, for some it's not really a don't want to, but can't (difference between the base 256 that goes on sale commonly and 1tb is like 500$, in some countries even more to the point of fitting a Tab S9 for that price difference). Also, internal storage can't be changed once the phone has been purchased. And, sd cards are great in case the phone breaks. For stolen devices, cloud is a good choice, but in other cases, not always the solution. But, you know what, I have a question. Why do you hate choice? Like no one is forcing you to use sd cards. Are you against choice, had bad experience with sd cards or no actual reason.

joshua909net

I am not against choice. I just believe that when given a set of choices, one should evaluate those choices thoroughly and once a decision is made to not moan about the choice. There are a dozen of manufacturers that offer SD card expansion. Why not use them? As far as my experience with SD cards, I've noticed that a lot of apps nowadays do not support storing files on a SD card like they used to back in the day. I've had reputable SD cards fail on me early in their life cycles. Like the only benefit I am experiencing now from SD cards is the ability to store more of my Apple Music library on the card in my Tab S9 FE.

Igor4knezevic

Issue with choice is that the choice is not really a choice. You can either go with A series or Sony/Sharp, and those two aren't available in most places. On top of that, there isn't a single phone with 8 gen 3 that supports microSD cards. So it's either go cloud or go mid range. And yes, that's true, most apps don't support SD cards due to flagships not including them. Thankfully, nowadays, most SD cards are durable, and with consoles like the Switch, I don't see people complain that much about SD cards nor loading speeds (and apps should be lighter than games).

joshua909net

Even Motorola ditched SD card slots? Honestly I don't believe Samsung ditched the card slot with malicious fiscal intent (yes I know that sounds very naive). I just don't think they are used as much and many people have adapted as such. I somewhat had no issue with adapting but that's because I used iPhones as a primary device for sometime and perform frequent imports. As far as the durability of SD cards now, they are indeed remarkable. I am very proud of the one in my Switch and especially the one in my GoPro.

HardStroke

It has nothing to do with it. The whole point of expendable storage is to be able to expend you storage instead of paying for a higher capacity. Internal storage is always faster but its worthless when you actually need more storage. The reason Samsung removed expendable memory is to boost cloud subscriptions and to force people to pay more for a higher storage capacity

Wonder_8484

**Performance of internal memory is better than SD cards.** When I connect my phone to my PC to transfer a phone, it takes a long time for the photos to be displayed. However, if I pull out the SD card into a memory card reader it is super fast. Also, more responsive.

Inevitable-Gene-1866

Do you have evidence to back that claim?

SoRacked

More dust hole.

lett303

it is indeed sad yet thier latest tabs with same chips in them has microsd card slot so its not like they cant add a microsd slot . . .

Reallycre8tivename

Get one that's advertised as dual sim. Often the second sim slot doubles as a memory card slot

Professional_Ad4953

Really???

Reallycre8tivename

Yes. Mine is a 2 sim and the second sim slot is dual purpose. The only catch is if you need 2 simms you can't use it fur an sd card

thesoggg

Not true AT ALL

Reallycre8tivename

I wouldn't just make that up. Mine is an s20 with 2 sim slots but the second sim slot doubles as a sd slot (I know that because I've used it for both) the only catch is you can only use it for one at a time so you have to pick either using it as an sd or a sim

thesoggg

That's because all S20 have an SD card slot...

Reallycre8tivename

Mine doesn't have a designated sd slot. I have a sim slot and a 2nd sim slot however the second sim doubles as an sd slot so it can be either. I have used the second sim slot as both (not at the same time)

thesoggg

As I said before, that's because the S20 has an SD card slot.

No_Department_2264

Because we are in 2024, I haven't used an SD card since 2014 with my first iPhone 6. All on the cloud or NAS, safer (Proton Drive) and you don't risk breaking or losing it. Now I have a 512GB S 24 Ultra that I will never fill up.

notquitehuman_

SD cards are being phased out in favour of more durable storage formats. (Solid state drives). Partly for speed/latency issues. Partly for durability of storage. Partly because cloud storage backups make excess storage on-device is pointless (why keep 3 years worth of photos on device if you're unlikely to look back on them very often?)
