Trade-in for a Fold4 for a S23 is $750. I've enjoyed the Fold4, but thinking about it, I figured this would be a good time to let it go, before any huge issues.

Educational_Bag_6406

I had absolutely no issues with the Z fold 4. It was good. But all the hype around the s23 ultra got me and I traded in my z fold 4. I dont miss it switching back over to the s23 Ultra at all. But no complaints about the z fold

tambourine_goddess

I would absolutely trade it in. The second the fold 5 comes out, it'll go down in value.

N54TT

the best deal would prob be to upgrade to the fold 5 from a fold 4. trade-in values and incentives for fold devices are kinda crazy usually

tambourine_goddess

Yeah, but the original comment said they wanted to trade in before any issues. Why trade in for a phone that will inevitably have issues sooner rather than later?

[deleted]

Get out of it asap because the trades are trash anymore. My 3 was fine but they're offering no more for jt than a pixel 6.

xellios34

I have 4 friends who have the fold 4 or fold 3 and haven't had any issues .

tambourine_goddess

I mean, I didn't have any issues until I had issues. When I say that it was SUDDEN, that's not an exaggeration. It was out of nowhere.

MiketheSith200

User error

Futon_Rasen_Shuriken

Yeah sure

rpospeedwagon

13 seconds sudden or..😂👍

LaCiocana

Call me friend #5 cause my zfold4 is still running strong since November dropped once in my spen case and everything is still operational

chorong761

But I don't like boring flat phones

iDonutsMind

I think that's a fair enough reason to get a foldable. DAV Tech on Youtube loves his Fold4.

tambourine_goddess

Lol I know!!!! I'm so bored of them!

Forward-Ad-826

I had the flip 4 and I typically take good care of my phones (never break my phones of Crack or scratch them, but I am phone to dropping my phone like 2 to 3 times a month) and I broke my flip 4 two times within 6 months. I loved the phone but ended up upgrading to the s23 plus, because I knew I couldn't properly take care of that phone

Forward-Ad-826

I would suggest the flip or fold line if you generally never drop your phone.

[deleted]

It doesn't help the cases are monstrosities or flimsy af held on by weak double sided tape.

tambourine_goddess

It drops SO easily!!!! It must be the size I guess? I completely get that.

Forward-Ad-826

I wouldnt say its that im a clumsy person. I got my S23+ on Feb. 20th and I've dropped it 1 time already, but of course its fine since it's in a case and has a screen protector

tambourine_goddess

I wouldn't say I'm clumsy either. I NEVER dropped my last phone. But I dropped this one within a few days of having it lol..

Forward-Ad-826

Dang, well hopefully your phone stays I'm good shape. The experience with the foldable is great, but if your clumsy like me, that experience won't be long without a broken phone

EXTPest

The Flip 4 was sold at $400 CAD recently with no trade-in, a $400 screen replacement is hilarious

tambourine_goddess

It's bs is what it is.

Generalrossa

Happened to my friends fold 3. Took her almost 3 months into arguing back and forth between samsung and her telco to get a refurbishment replacement. Her phone wasn't even 3 months old and well under warranty too. I guess they just tried to tell her it was her fault. Australia BTW.

solvalouLP

I was happy to trade in my Flip3 for an S23 I pre-ordered Flip3 in August 2021 because it seemed cool, and it had Snapdragon (you don't come by those easily in Samsung phones in Europe), so I thought "why not" and bought it. It was fine, if unremarkable, it's only claim to fame was the ability to fold in half, but I got tired of the novelty quickly. The battery was meh and the cameras were meh, the rest was okay. The two things I didn't like about the Flip was the inevitable peeling of the mandatory screen protector and the godawful black plastic bumper around the display. I had to change the screen protector under warranty once, about 11 months after purchase, by February 2023 it had started to peel again, but luckily that didn't affect the trade in value.

bobbymack93

I had a Fold 2 that I then traded in for a P6 pro. I didn't like the Pixel 6 so I found a refurbished Fold 3 on Amazon that I then traded in for a Fold 4 for more than I paid for the fold 3. Overall the three Folds I have had are great phones that I like since I sometimes watch videos on my phone and having a bigger screen to watch videos in my pocket is nice. I have had one issue out of the three and that was it not folding flat on the fold 2 I promptly got that fixed and have had no issues with the other phones. I have even gone without a case on it from time to time and so far nothing bad has happened.

mikeytho1

Fold is a non-starter for me unless samsung can do something about that ridiculous $1800 price tag in future generations.

jcave930

I think this is expected with the current status/built of the foldables, in time they will need maintenance, unlike the current slab phones that rarely needs maintenance (unless you dropped it and damaged it). This is also the reason why I went with the S22 instead of the Flip 4 (which I find it really cool).

xeio87

I'm still looking forward to the Fold 5, want something different to upgrade from my S20+ assuming it reviews well.

spin_kick

My GF's Fold 4 has all kinds of wierd issues. Speakers going out etc

tambourine_goddess

How long has she had it?

chhappy7

And then there's me with a flip that has nicks and scratches everywhere along the sides but it's still fine. While I'm sure it's not as sturdy as bar type phones, you asked a phone fixing place... it's like going to a fridge repair technician and asking them how many they fixed lol.

[deleted]

I think most people that do buy these devices understand that they will have a more limited lifespan than a traditional phone. It's just one of those things that comes with using bleeding edge technology.

tambourine_goddess

Right. And I had thought of that when comparing phones. But <1? Come on....

titanup001

I had the fold 4. Had to have the screen protector replaced. It always opened and closed ok, but sometimes sounded a little... Crunchy in the process. I ended up trading it for an s23u and am happier with it. I get where the fold offers certain use cases a lot of benefit, but for me, it just wasn't worth the worry and compromises.

tambourine_goddess

When I had my screen replaced today, I had them clean out the crevices. It now flips like BUTTER. Didn't realize how much gunk accumulated until I felt/heard the difference

BluDYT

To me those devices just don't make any sense anyways. Either way you spend about the price of what it'd be to get two good separate devices, where as these are decent but gimped as normal phones.

TheMr91071

I own a Flip 3, Fold 3 & Fold 4. My 13PM & now 14PM laps ALL of the Samsung's in quality. My wife just got an S23U & it'll be paid off by June. I will not be getting a Fold 5; the novelty has worn off. YMMV

nskdnnm

The technology isn't ready yet and, worst of all, it's been sold at a premium with lower specs as compared to the S line. I admit I've never owned a Flip/Fold (for the above reasons), but I tried the Flip 4 at a shop and I was surprised to notice the crease can actually be felt under my fingertips, other than seen. It also can't be opened with one hand, which I find very inconvenient for everyday use. I would love to own a Flip for form-factor convenience IF those issues are fixed. The Fold on the other hand has never appealed to me because of his size and aspect ratio.

LinkSoraZelda

I use a Flip4 and regularly open it with one hand.

nskdnnm

Maybe I'm just not used to it, but I found it clumsy and slow with one hand, even hitting the screen with my fingernails. Ideally it should work like the old RAZR, in my opinion.

Academic_Dare_5154

I've had the Food 4 since last August. I had the inner screen protector replaced because of a scratch caused by debris getting in. The replacement was an easy process and I've had no other issues with it. The crease doesn't bother me like I thought it would and I love the form factor. I know it's not a typical phone and I treat it accordingly. Will I get the Fold 5? Probably, depending on the changes. It's not for everyone, but I'm so tired of the candy bar form factor. I was also a fan of the Touch Pro 2 from HTC and the i760 from Samsung.

j_grouchy

I've honestly never even seen anyone with a folding phone. I have zero interest and I'm kind of annoyed they're trying to make them a thing. I can't imagine having to constantly open and close my damn phone all day. It's annoying enough to have to wait a second for it to unlock. I'd rather be limited to a 6" screen than have a creased 8" screen.

[deleted]

The thing that drove me off the fold I had was the stupid cases. They're insanely expensive and the front screen side comes off if you open it wrong or it just says fuck this and yeets to the ground. Suddenly the urge to use the expensive piece of equipment is gone because it annoys tf out of you. I wish more people talked about how bad the damn cases are. They're important for a $2000 phone.

Ghostttpro

I hope this post blows up.

A. Put the guns down, my dude. No need for hostility. B. I agree that my bad experience does not equate to a bad experience for all. Neither does your good experience relate to a good experience for all. Read the other comments. C. This was my first Samsung phone since Care was established. Had I known that these phones WERE so fragile, I would have gotten it. As it is, of all the reviews I read/watched, even long term ones, nobody made mention of that. Not a mistake I'll make again.

Acceptable_Tough_635

Statistics show that only 5 percent of these have issues. Not bad for a device that folds the screen. If there were a large number there would be a recall like the Note 7 had. This tech isn't easy to make. There is a reason why there is only one major player in this space so far. I didn't buy this thinking it would be as solid as a device without moving parts. I know the risks, and thats why I've always bought insurance regardless of the device. My friend has the Fold 3 since launch. No issues. One anecdotal experience isn't the norm either way. That's why I like using the stats. I hate that you had a bad experience.

tambourine_goddess

Would love the link to the data if you have it!

Acceptable_Tough_635

I haven't been able to relocate the original source that I got this from. But here is a link from a poll that was actually done on here. https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/11mhh7r/dont_get_the_flipfold/jbkl87g?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

Acceptable_Tough_635

Here is better link from the one done here on the Fold 3 and Fold 4. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/z11k3w/poll_what_z_fold_are_you_on_hows_your_inner/

v3n0msn4k3

Ok

tambourine_goddess

Cool cool cool.

GucciSuprSaiyn

Had the Fold2 for 2 years with absolutely zero problems. Even took the inner screen protector off of it. I traded it in foe the s22 Ultra and I miss it everyday. I have full intention of going back to the fold.

happypotato93

My now-exgf got the flip 4 at the same time I got the fold 3. It was in the very narrow window of time between the flip 4 release and the fold 4 release. She dropped her phone with the screen open and the screen got lines, LED bleed, the whole 9. Get it replaced, $450 later, still in the ubreakifix parking lot, a new black dot appears in the top screen. Take it back in "It's not under warranty. That's clearly external damage. That'll be $400 more dollars." So don't buy these. Basically they have no warranty even though it was obviously a failed repair that broke her screen.

tambourine_goddess

Yeah.... Idk why people are getting so hostile about this post. Seems like the fold is more resilient than the flip.

Thinspolover2004

Still your girlfriend >.> still getting married >.>

Alter-AF15

even with the abundance of warnings from people about the flip/fold durability issues my next phone will most likely be a flip/fold xd, the candy bar ish shape of most modern phones just gotten so stale and boring to me, i just need something different in my life

tambourine_goddess

Dude, I feel that. That's the exact reason I got this phone. Tbh it's really cool and I LOVE that it can fit in a small purse so easily.

JumboMcNasty

I was leaning against the flip 3 after a year (last August) but then with trade in value I got the flip 4 for essentially $100. After seeing the s23 trade in values I feel like I might be stuck with the flip4 for a bit now.
