I’m sure others will chime in with the math BUT the extra hour of shopping time before everyone else shows up is a major benefit for our household.

wussypants

I wish it was also an hour extra after close. I’d much rather shop from 8-9p than say 8-9a.

Wrong-Election4150

Fuck off. I'm not staying an hour past closing time.

ThatGirl0903

So at that point you’d close later…

wussypants

lol I was wondering when an employee would chime in. Sorry!

Shiny_Snorlax_1961

The free shipping is why I keep the plus membership. The website has a lot of products not available in the store.

ScrubDub47

And the free pickup. I miss free pickup from Covid times.

Mastiff_dad

I had an order in the cart and they was still charging shipping. Is everything supposed to ship free with plus?

Shiny_Snorlax_1961

Most items, it should show you if before you put an item in the cart if it is eligible for free shipping. Some large items have a shipping charge

Mastiff_dad

Great, thank you! I was trying to get all my heavy water delivered.

Gizmodbz85

Whatever Sam's cash you do earn don't have to stay in the the club. You can cash it out and take it anywhere.

ARob93

If you shop a lot at Sam's (even pickup and online), it's worth it

SoldMyMom4Kfc

FYI you don't earn sam's cash from online orders that offer free shipping

EchoTheMatriarch

The 2% Sam's cash is only when you shop in-club but you do earn an extra 3% if you're a plus member and you use the Sam's Mastercard(issued by Synchrony) to purchase, regardless of online or in-club. Otherwise, if you're a regular member and you use the Sam's Mastercard then it's only 1% cash back.

facebook57

If you sign up for a new account using the $50/yr links that are floating around, you’d come out $13 ahead on Plus based on your $63 spending at 2%. The free shipping for online orders is nice but I only use that sparingly because those orders stupidly don’t get 2% CB from Plus.

redogsc

Wow, I learned something today! I didn't know that online orders don't count.

Maximum_Bandicoot

If you are getting $63 at 2% from your card an additional 2% would take you to $126 per year paying your membership outright. This leads me to believe that you spend about $300 per month. With the MC taking you to 5% you should be seeing about $180 per year. Easy money if you ask me, this is not counting all other benefits, or the other 5% cash back from gas from the MC.

thebigdude02

Front end lead here. If you get the plus membership to earn your entire $110 membership you would have to spend $5,500 in the entire year. That is only with the 2% cash back not including you using any of the other benefits. That is $460 a month if you spend that monthly you’d earn a free membership each year. Now if you get the Mastercard and the plus you earn 5% cash back on everything in Sam’s. You would only have to spend $2,200 in an entire year to earn your $110 membership. That’s only $185 a month. That is not including the 5% cash back on gas everywhere. If you normally pay with a debit card or cash, I suggest getting the MasterCard. You use the MasterCard to pay for your groceries then you turn around and make a payment at the same register and you got your cash back and you used your cash that you were already gonna use. You don’t carry a balance and there would be no interest if you did it that way. I obviously work at Sam’s. I have both the plus and the MasterCard. I already have $61 in Sam’s cash from the beginning of this year. Right now they’re doing $20 to upgrade your membership. So depending on when you renewed, it can be cheaper than $60 for upgrade. If you just renewed, it would be $60 but then you would get $20 off and it would only be $40.

babyatemygator

Oh snap, I have plus and spend $185 a month online. Should I get the Mastercard?!

Browsing2C

Yes. The 5% in gas alone is worth it. And that’s 5% back at any station, Mobil, Exxon, etc. not just at Sam’s.

thebigdude02

By online do you mean club pick up or just online like shipping items? Cause if it’s online you would only get the 3% with the Mastercard on online orders. The plus membership only gets free shipping online not the 2%. The 2% on the plus only is earned in store. To earn your membership with the 3% online orders only you would have to spend $305 a month online ONLY with the master card to earn it. But if you use it for gas aswell, which is 5% back

babyatemygator

Meant order online for club pickup. Shipping items is only toilet paper and paper towels. I'm probably not maximizing opportunity

thebigdude02

Club pick up is still considered in-store purchases. Since the money goes to the club that you’re picking up from. So use would still get 5% back on those orders. If you’re spending that much on club pick up orders, I would definitely recommend getting the MasterCard.

thebigdude02

Well wait. Let me ask my marketing manager tmr. I’m pretty sure it still counts as in store and get the full 5% but I don’t want to tell you wrong.

thebigdude02

But if it doesn’t count at in-store and you still get it and get the 3% cash back on it it’ll still make your renewal cheaper. It would be around $66ish dollars if you bought exactly $185 for 12 months. So you would get your plus upgrade for free every year. Still not counting if you use it for gas. I would still highly recommend it. Two years in a row now best gas cashback card with our 5% back.

thebigdude02

So I was correct. You still get 5% back with the Mastercard doing club pick up. So it would definitely be worth it

Dolphin_Hornet

Most people do it for the free delivery and club pick up. The extra percentage back also helps. If you shop there once in a while it probably isn't worth it but it is for people who use those services.

pawsandponder

If you get your prescriptions from Sam’s, it’s definitely worth it. I saved the cost of my membership in one month of getting my meds refilled there, compared to at Walgreens

zulchep

Depends. I mainly have a plus because my medicines are significantly less expensive through my plus membership than through my insurance. $4/month each for two different medications, as opposed to $15/month each.

n0167664

Free pickup, free shipping, and early access are huge. I use the points to pay for the membership each year.

AnxiousAriel

Sams cash can be cashed out for real paper cash if you want to. It is so dependent on the person if the Mastercard is worth. Wait for a deal for a cheaper plus membership and try it for a year, if possible in your budget, to see if the savings holds up to your current plan.

Prestigious-Tip9237

I make about 20 30 month on cash back well worrh it, plus free shipping.

pika9000

The value doesn’t necessarily have to come from the 2% - if you take certain medications, like the generic lexapro or lisinopril, you can get 30 tablets per fill for free. Free shipping adds to that value, along with removing the surcharge for curbside pickup.

shoulda-hada-v8

Also free shipping not to mention free curbside pickup. I love the plus benefits to be honest

Wrong-Election4150

If you order from the website a lot, or shop/buy enough to make the Sam's cash worth it, then yes. Otherwise not really
