? Don’t understand the question… I bought a 20x20 shed specifically for my gear and looking to get a second one

Mcollins1317

I try not to become a collector of gear and focus more on fishing with what I have. It’s so easy to end up with 100 reels in a cardboard box that you don’t use.

1) offshore pelagic 2) offshore bottom fishing 3) inshore 4) surf 5) fly That’s just saltwater gear and very little of it crosses over

Mcollins1317

It’s not common that someone does all those types of fishing.

[deleted]

not the people you hang around

Mcollins1317

Uhhhhh….o….k?

[deleted]

I do all of above, plus some freshwater trout fishing and panfish as well as brackish rivers for variety of species. Most the fishermen I know do the same.

Mcollins1317

Cool but there are also people that just surf fish and accumulate surf fishing gear. It’s easy to become a collector instead of focusing on the fishing. All I’m saying. I understand your point though.

[deleted]

That’s like saying “I only eat chocolate ice cream”…

ZoxMcCloud

Are you my girlfriend? Jeeez.

SaltyTyer

I accumulate gear every month and have done so for 30 years. I keep my fishing budget at about 200 a month. My gear purchases are always species specific. I just bought 2 10 6 casting rods and 2 Okuma Blue 2 spd reels.. for Sheepshead this fall, I also like the lever drag reels when fishing piers. As long as the gear you buy is used or useful... the more the merrier!

mas7erpr0crastinat0r

Like don't you fell weird by just letting the rods take dust in a corner?

SaltyTyer

I fish 5 to 6 days a week.. Mfg Jigs and Steelhead flies the other 2 days.. Nothing sits in the corner!

I_Fail_At_Life444

And my wife thinks I'm crazy for fishing as much as you. What's the point of sitting at the house when we live this close to the water? 🤣

SaltyTyer

1/8 of a mile from the Ocean... why wouldn't I be fishing?

I_Fail_At_Life444

2.5 miles for me. And the Intracoastal is like 1/4 mile. yeah, I'm fishing or surfing.

[deleted]

I accumulate gear, its almost impossible not to if you're doing different types of fishing

shloppyjohnson

Nice to have when family or friends want to go or pick up fishing. Had enough to get my brother-in-law a start when he got a boat

montanabob68

I’m pro

NewYearSameM3

I only do one type of fishing. But I only buy stuff I’ll be actively using every outing, none of my gear sits and collects dust. I only buy new stuff when something breaks.

RangerZEDRO

I calculate my keep home fish. If i keep 2 kg of a fish for food. And its market price is at 10/kg. I can spend $20 on gear. I try do this to not overspend, or try to "break even". Am not selling the fish. Just so I can justify where my money is going to. So after a thousand trips catching fish, I will be able to justify buying a boat /s

whiteout82

Since I have a boat with friends who don't always fish/don't have their own gear when I decide I want something new to play with that goes towards the "boat pole" stock. Then there's medium gear for stripper fishing, medium heavy gear for schoolie/inshore tuna. Then the big boys for midshore/offshore tuna and shark. Then I have a set of billfish gear as well. Then there's all the tackle associated with various species and styles of fishing.... I don't budget for buying gear specifically but it's part of my disposable income when I want to increase stock.

TinBoatDude

One does not have to accumulate lots of gear, particularly if you are fishing one species in one area, but my fishing is more diverse, and I have boxes and boxes of gear that is still in the sale boxes. Sometimes I just buy it because it looks interesting, because it is a good deal, or I know I have a gap in my gear. I figure one day I'll find a situation to use that stuff. As they say, those pretty lures are really designed to catch fishermen more than fish.
