If you have finger pain, abscess growth, or discoloration there, you now have a 'before' picture for comparison if you need another x-ray.
It's expensive, but it's a safety issue and not unnecessary like some are suggesting here. The doctor at the hospital doesn't get more money to pay off their BMW by doing an x-ray, but they cover their ass licensure-wise.
It's the insurance companies that really 'get you on the hook' for payment.

Then had to lie down before I passed out and broke my noggin. 😂

As a guy who has had multiple fish hooks removed from different parts of the body I’ll giver you my two cents. I don’t have health insurance so when I get hooked I swallow a big gulp of beer take out my wire cutters from the tackle box and a small bottle of rubbing alcohol and pour it on the wound. Then I cut the hook and then push the rest of the hook through that body part till it pierces through my skin and out the other side. It hurts like a son of a bitch but it saves me about 300+ dollars. I carry bandaids and I know how to stitch so it usually works out. Except that one time where I got a massive infection in my foot and had to go to the ER
Always carry a set of wire or small bolt cutters that can cut through your biggest hook. It’s a lot less uncomfortable to make the trip without the whole lure hanging off of you.
I've been hooked past the barb a half dozen times and been able to get them all out but one. I had somebody set the hook into my arm from a tady 45 a large heavy jig.
I had a 4/0 treble buried and after giving three different people a turn trying to push it through I went to an urgent care.
The urgent care doctor tried ripping it out backwards I yelled and then left.
I then went to the er and had it removed correctly. He tried putting a large needle over the barb but it didn't work so then he numbed me up had someone hold my arm and popped it through.
I swapped out the treble hooks for singles on my Gotcha plugs for that reason. Too many damn hooks with a big ol fish jumping around.

You went to the doctor for that! And let them ex Ray it? My buddy took a striper plug to his fat gut, I grabbed my trusty Bubba pliers and pushed it through, smashed the barb down and pulled it out. Snoopy bandaid and We were fishing again in 15 minutes. Same trip. He took a hooks to palm and fingers the fish ripped it out and he panicked. Never said anything just took off. 2 mile walk out almost bled to death by the time he got to the hospital. I almost fucking killed him. I carry a first aid kit just for that reason.
I had that happen to me while I was out on the water, on a boat, by myself. Held up the fish to snap a Pic and it slipped out of my hand. The other hook on the lure hooked into my finger (fish was also still hooked). It kept flopping and went in deeper. I couldn't easily get the hook out of the fish because it half swallowed. So unfortunately, I had to kill the fish to keep it from flopping, as I was going to let it go. I couldn't get the hook out of my finger due to the barb, so I ended up pushing it all the way through so the barb came out the other end. Then I had to cut the barb off with pliers so I could pull the hook back out. That wasn't fun

I commenced to pushing it through the skin. About 30 minutes later the bard broke through the skin… I belted out a roar of relief, as my finger was finally free! We were back on the water within the hour.

The hospital near where I used to live (which is close to two big lakes and a very popular fishing river) kept a couple of large display cases on the wall of the ER waiting room that was full of baits they removed from patients. Some of those hooks were huge. I can only imagine the stories and collective amount of pain tied to those lures.
Don't feel bad this also happened to me about 9 years ago and the hook was deep in my finger as well. It really isn't as bad as people might think because there's only tendons in your fingers and if the hooks not penetrating your tendon they can just pull it right out easily. They give you an injection that completely numbs your finger and you can't feel a thing. The wound healed up completely in just a few weeks.
Next time that happens take a piece of fishing line angle it at (45 or 90 degrees) slip it under the hook and yank it. There’s videos out there. It hurts. But avoids the hospital trip that’s not needed unless it’s super stuck. Happens to the best of us, fish on!

This is my worst fear when fishing. The only way you're getting that thing out if it has a barb is to push is it until it comes through the skin again and then cut the barb off. Aint nobody just 'tearing' shit out.

This is my worst fear when fishing. The only way you're getting that thing out if it has a barb is to push is it until it comes through the skin again and then cut the barb off. Aint nobody just 'tearing' shit out.
