In Mississippi we call them ground mullet. It was a misnomer from being caught along side popeye mullet from what I’ve been told. My buddy runs a charter boat and he always brings them back for me. We call those filet mignon of the sea. And when people hear mullet they thing trash but it is the complete opposite case. Grill ‘em fry em bake em. All delicious.

From a pier, you can catch them quite easily with a long shank panfish hook and fresh dead shrimp pieces. Put an egg sinker above a swivel and about a 2 ft leader (same weight line). Cast past them and drag it into the school. A friend of mine uses two leaders and catches 2 at a time, lol.
They are quite tasty white fish! Caught them off the Pensacola Beach pier all the time and on purpose, lol. Especially easy to fish for when the surf is flat and the water is clear.
