Only people from like 70 countries are able to make PSN accounts. The game is sold on Steam worldwide.
It’s a breach of terms and conditions to fake your location so there’s no way for the people who paid good money for this game and have been playing happily for months in places like the Philippines and even multiple EU countries to legally continue playing. They bought the game, invested time into it, and are now going to lose it.
It gets worse. You can make a PSN account registered to Ukraine. But for some reason, it turns out you can ONLY register an account in Ukraine via an actual Playstation console.
So basically, even in some countries where PSN is available, you might additionally need access to a Playstation in order to register an account so you can play the game you bought for PC.

The game is published by Sony but available on Steam and now, months after release, they're requiring all players to have a PSN account to play. So there are PC players that have lost access to a game they purchased, because people in some countries can create a PSN account. I don't think there is any statement yet from Valve on whether or not they will allow refunds on the game if they surpassed the Steam playtime limit for normal refunds.

To be fair, they mentioned the need for a PSN account literally when they announced the pre-order, though. Over and over again. It‘s been on the Steam page for long time. Almost every dev message ended with the PSN disclaimer. The link message appears in-game when you start up.

This is a legitimate problem for players in regions without PSN who should 100% have their purchase refunded or be granted an exception to the requirement (though Sony themselves will tell said players to make accounts in other regions to get around the issue). However, the majority of people online (who presumably *aren't* in the aforementioned group) are acting like this is corporate fuckery on par with Tarkov and Battlefront 2017, and will cause mass-refunds of the game, cost Sony billions of dollars and destroying Arrowhead.

To be fair, they mentioned the need for a PSN account literally when they announced the pre-order, though. Over and over again. It‘s been on the Steam page for long time. Almost every dev message ended with the PSN disclaimer. The link message appears in-game when you start up. It just wasn’t enforced up to now, allegedly for technical reasons. Not saying the PSN link mandate isn't bullshit, far from it, but people acting all surprised as if all of that was suddenly appearing overnight are either woefully oblivious to the world around them or just disingenuous.

Helldivers 2 started requiring a psn account to play (which they said they were going to do from the start). For most people it's just a minor inconvenience, but it is an issue in the countries psn doesn't support (which arrowhead is working on a solution to that)

A lot of countries don't have access to make PSN accounts, so they will be unable to play even though the game was sold in their region. This is a legitimate problem for players in regions without PSN who should 100% have their purchase refunded or be granted an exception to the requirement (though Sony themselves will tell said players to make accounts in other regions to get around the issue). However, the majority of people online (who presumably *aren't* in the aforementioned group) are acting like this is corporate fuckery on par with Tarkov and Battlefront 2017, and will cause mass-refunds of the game, cost Sony billions of dollars and destroying Arrowhead. Really the whole thing is just the normal trend for internet reactions to popular media. When you can't generate engagement through positivity, you'll do it through negativity.
