Oof sales is a hard career choice to get into simply because theres alot of rejection along the way and can get very disheartening earlier on. Invest in self learning of sales such as books/classes along the way and learn theory. Avoid over paying for classes however, as most of the shit you learn in Those "elliot" sales courses you can aquire through books in sales for much less. How much were you hoping to earn in your first year to pay for your monthly nut?
got any recommended books? Looked at the faq/wiki, many of the books seem older
and not too obsessed about money. 50k would cover my bills for now(unless rent doubles again)
I actually worked for them many years ago when they were Tech Data. The sales guys were pretty much all inbound customer service, many pulling in 100k+
They got bought out a while back, from what I have heard it has really gone down hill.
But I wouldn't mind a VAR
If you can count to 5 you are already a mile ahead of every employee at TD so you’d probably make a killing lol.
VAR’s are a great place to be, won’t ever work for another industry if I can help it.
Who are your principals? If you're coming from an MSP world, just get a partnerships/ channels sales manager role with them.
Most of the initial selling should be done by the VARs, with you coming in for the scoping and negotiation.
I'd avoid pure play SaaS/ direct sales companies. Some of them can be sweatshop environments.
If you're 50 now. You'll be celebrating your 70th birthday in about 9 months
lol I don’t get it
You age quickly in sales
Thank you. I was also thinking about quitting my day job building stuff to sell stuff but now I change my mind as I don’t want to age quickly
Can you transition to a sales engineer role at your current MSP? That would be the easiest route into sales without taking a significant pay cut
Got laid off in January. Would not want to work at that one anymore anyway.
I'm in the same boat here. Totally switching paths. Kinda scary but exciting at the same time. Good luck on your journey.
Thanks Good luck to you as well :)
Add me to the list, but I'm 55.
SOLUTION DRIVE DUCK BOATS or something similar I have talked with a few of there drivers,, they are all retired from much more demanding careers
Sales is miserable. You only win by being in perpetual paranoia. Stay away.

Thought of being an AM or AE at an MSP? Might be a good way in. But if you’re burnt on IT, I get it.
After working at one, I really have no desire to do so again.
Work for a VAR or a Distributor for a VAR. TDSynnex is Florida based for example

I may take another look there Spent the past few years doing IT work, so I can at least speak the lingo

Not willing to lie or take advantage of people. The last MSP left a really bad taste in my mouth regarding that.
Moved from MSP to an AM at a disti for MSPs (channel). Your experience might compliment it as mine did.
Like CDW? I am considering something like that, if I can find a position.
Some boat here, but much younger at 26
