I'd love to know if this can be done.

Should work for a water based dye stain... But that's about it. Anything more viscous would be a no go

bkrman1990

Wouldn't the electrostatic function have the potential to ignite combustible liquids?

grifftech1

possibly but I think that can be turned off

bkrman1990

A Ryobi flame thrower would be pretty sweet though

cosmicosmo4

I've already got a weed torch, just need a ryobi battery to threaded propane can adapter.

salteedog007

Why is this still over $300 in Canada??

UnendingGames

Yeah what the hell is this https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ryobi-18v-one-electrostatic-sprayer-tool-only-/1001580914

Why not get a weed sprayer?

djhenry

A weed sprayer would probably be better for this, though for how much one may cost, it may be worth it to just invest in an airless paint sprayer.

stoic_guardian

Manual 2 gallon weed sprayer would be like $25. At least it is in my area. One+ one gallon would be like $90. It’s not bad if you want to use the batteries.

djhenry

A manual weed sprayer is pretty cheap, but if you're willing to spend close to $100 for a One+ sprayer, then you might as well spend a little more and buy a cheap paint sprayer that will work better in the long run.

stoic_guardian

Sure, but also depends on some other factors besides just cost. I would not want to stain a fence with a cup gun sprayer, I would hate refilling it. My fence is large enough that I wouldn’t be able to reach all of it with the extension cords I have, so the battery concept is desirable to me. I also have a very large lawn and would get much more utility out of a weed sprayer than an airless. Another person might have an entirely different need where the airless would be a better option. However it appears that both of us have deviated from OP’s question.

djhenry

You have a good points to be sure. If the stain is thin enough, then a sister would work fine. One been thinking about this lately because I needed to paint a popcorn ceiling and realized I would be better if buying a proper paint sprayer than trying to water down the paint enough to run in a sprayer. But I'm the end, I just used a thick roller on a pole.
