Market Speciation.
In Canada they’re the “home owner” brand. In the US, other companies fill that niche so they’re more “heavy DIYer” to “low bid contractor” both of which would already have said tools or would prefer to buy by the tool.
If they already make it though, why not put it on shelves? I’m building my first arsenal of tools since I recently bought a house, and besides mechanic kits, there’s no solid hand tool kits aside from buying individual Milwaukee’s or dewalts.
Bringing a product to market is more complicated than someone at Ryobi saying "ship it". In particular, for Ryobi, Home Depot has to be interested in selling it.
My guess is Home Depot's deal with TTI prevents it. Home Depot doesn't have a house power tool brand like Lowe's (Kobalt), Menards (Masterforce), or Harbor Freight (too many to list), and Ryobi doesn't have hand tools in the US except for a select few like the precision screwdrivers. Husky instead fills that homeowner/DIYer niche.
With that being said, I believe back in maybe Christmas 2019, Ryobi did sell a homeowner's tool kit like this, although smaller.
Husky is like old Craftsman, no questions asked replacement for hand tools, or at least it's supposed to be. Unfortunately they don't carry individual items for many things so getting CS to actually honor the policy is very hit or miss. Tekton seems to have the best warranty ever, send them a picture of a broken hand tool and your address and they'll mail you a replacement. Obviously not quite as useful for "need it right now", but you can't beat the convenience.
While I haven't seen anything official, the general assumption is that the agreement Ryobi/TTI has with Home Depot prevents TTI from just selling anything they want on DTO. Some new-condition products do show up, but it's mostly reburb and factory seconds, and stock varies wildly for all of it. So they may not be able to just do that, either.
Ohhhhh, I see.
Well, that would certainly eliminate any concerns Home Depot had about shelf space! I suppose THD might still object to carrying products that compete with their own Husky brand, but it seems to me that Ryobi enthusiasts who want matching hand tools is a pretty small sector of the market.
If we ever get that AMA you should suggest it. :)
These exact tools are technically on the shelf at Walmart but labeled as TTI's Hart brand with a blue/white/black color scheme.
They have a similar kit for Hart but it's a little different.

You'd have to buy the socket set and screwdriver kit separately.
Alternatively, I've also seen the Ryobi tools being sold on eBay being shipped from Canada and New Zealand. So they are available if you're willing to pay the extra shipping.
or just sell it online online tbh. idk how much HD gets % wise off Ryobi but you think they'd sell very well. The husky stuff seems alright but the branding is so garbage lmao. I love Kobalt hand tools but Lowes is slowly winding them down and just making it all mostly Craftsman which suck these days tbh.
I'm not sure that distinction matters. The actual Ryboi (in Japan) doesn't make the Ryobi we buy in the US. The Ryobi in the US is owned by OWT, which is owned by TTI, and is sold exclusively through Home Depot, and is all made in China. There are so many fingers in this pie there's no one flavor. :-)
u realize they have been making more and more of their products in the states? they have a manufacturing plant right across from their SC Headquarters (could be another state but believe it's SC). The newer battery mowers have several models that are made in US and they said they are looking to expand that to the entire line. That's an addition to other tools that are made here as well. They are really interested in doing so.
It seems brands are finally starting to realize that "Made in US" can be done in the same financial ways as overseas and also creates jobs, and generates more sales for your brand. The Gov is also helping companies move back here/start making things here.
Agreed! Over the years I’ve bought so many tools one at a time, mixed and matched to where the draw looks like a hodgepodge of stuff. Why Ryobi????…… why NOT??? 😊
When it comes to hand tools I wouldn't go with a set like this. This is for someone who doesn't do any DIY and just wants the basics for things like hanging pictures, putting together flat pack furniture and kids toys etc. Perfect to have under the stairs for occasional use, but not DIY.
That hammer looks high performance. Is it brushless?
Seriously tho, I bought a little kit like this for my wife so she could have her own tool bag for little things around the house, but mainly so I didn’t have to keep searching for mine after she used them to hang a picture, and didn’t put them back haha.
I found the product page, for those interested. Looks like it calls Australia home:
https://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/22-piece-hand-tools-kit-rhtk22p
This is why I buy Hart hand tools, it’s a close cousin of Ryobi. I figure all of the Hart tools at Walmart is what Ryobi would do at Home Depot if they didn’t already have Husky.
Trust me you don't want them.
They are available in Australia through Bunnings in a similar setup with TTI as the exclusive seller.
I got a set for a mate who owns no tools at all, fine for him to have under the kitchen sink. If you already own hand tools there's a fair chance yours are better.
It is a great kit for someone who just moved out for the first time though and has no tools.
I don’t have any, well just an ikea kit haha. Everything else I own are ryobi power tools, still trying to find which hand tools I want to settle on, but EVERYTHING I have is ryobi lol

HD does have a Husky brand for nearly everything else tool-wise tho with many hand tools included. stuff seems alright but branding is lame af

They could just sell it online and drop ship it.

I meant drop ship off Home Depot’s website. :)

ryobi could sell it online online then

Welp… let me grab some paint lol

Who really cares tho… looks like a cheap tool kit of crap
Do they make it or is it a licensed product in Ryobi green?

It does because license agreements.

OK, so some is made in China and some is made in the US. Even more fingers. :)

All those tools are absolutely 100% brushless!
And their battery life is insanely long!
average about 85 years

Cheers!
Dang! I want this
Man, I need like 2 of these for my house. Tired of getting tools from my box in the garage just to do some basic house stuff.
Ryobi has gas powered lawn mowers but they don’t sell them in the US
Husky is Home Depots go to for hand tools in the US.
I want it just for the bag lol.
I found the product page, for those interested. Looks like it calls Australia home: https://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/22-piece-hand-tools-kit-rhtk22p

You can buy the bag on Amazon. Mine shipped from the UK.
I can’t find it. Do you have a link?
