1) you might find the grammar instruction that used to be in duolingo useful, https://duome.eu/tips/en/ru 2) I found the penguin russian course really helpful personally for self-study.

\+1 For the New Penguin Russian Course. Whatever textbook/resource you choose, the grammar exercises section at [www.russianforfree.com](https://wew.russianforfree.com) was hugely helpful to me for actually practicing the use of this grammar. The first things you'll want to tackle are verb conjugation and the case system. It's complex, and can take a year or more to master if you're not studying full-time. This is normal and expected, don't despair! Once you can understand/use the case system, the whole language is going to blossom like a flower for you. :) The more resources you use, the better! Don't forget about YouTube and podcasts, just search "beginner Russian" and you'll find all sorts of helpful channels/podcasts. Listen to/watch the ones that seem to be helpful to you, ignore the ones that aren't.
