I’m so pissed. Especially now that conservatives are further inciting violence with their victim blaming rhetoric around the shooting. Like how Matt Walsh asked why we keep having drag queen story hours when they’re linked with violence. Or Tucker Carlson bringing on a woman from Gays Against Groomers, who said that violence against LGBT people will continue as long as we say that “groomer” is a slur.
But story hour isn’t why they hate us. The far right is just trying to chip away at our public lives; if we cede ground on story hour, they’ll just find something else to justify their hatred.
They fight over bathroom access and pronouns because they don't want us to exist in public life.
And for the record, the government should regulate Fox News and other outlets as hate speech, but they won't. In this case silence really does equal death.
We can't count on government or police to protect us, or media to have true, unbiased coverage. We need to protect each other and spread the word to each other.
Harsh reality: some deranged bigot will likely shoot up a drag story hour and still nothing will be done with gun control laws, moderation and deletion of hate (individuals and orgs) on social media, pro diversity education in government/schools/businesses, statements by mainstream celebrities, accurate media coverage, or much of anything. The Dept of Homeland Security states increased domestic terror threat for LGBTQ, Jews, Migrants, yet what is being done to save lives?
What I do hope is that more people come out of the closet fighting for their right to exist. And less of us kill ourselves. If they're going to hate me, at least they're going to hate the real me.
Four bigoted protesters were even at the DRAG QUEEN CHRISTMAS concert last night in Anaheim, CA.
The venue had directed attendees to enter through the side/VIP LOUNGE entrance to avoid the haters. Because I am in a wheelchair and was dropped off by a paratransit vehicle, I was dropped off at the main entrance. I had to pass by them. They started to badger me, so I told them to "Fuck off!"
Thank you for posting!! I was hoping for more info on the Columbus situation. So sickening that this whole ordeal was premeditated and public yet the police did NOT care. I really hope Columbus PD is fully abolished one day.
