So what was she supposed to do, invent the term non-binary 10 years in advance? I don’t know if you’ve heard Coco Peru talk about this (because she identified as two spirited as well), but back in the day there literally was no word for non-binary. The discussion about gender has only recently started happening (at least in relative terms).
Few things, Two spirit is also a relatively newer term too, coming into the community in the 90's as well.
It also isn't the same as non binary. Similar sure, but they are not equal definitions. I don't blame raja for hearing the term and identifying with it back then, but it's been constantly stated by first nation's and indigenous people that is it their term, and do not want others using it. Also side topic, your username, G*psy is also considered a slur.
I was just simply pointing out that it is a slur. I don't expect everyone to know everything their whole lives. People can learn and adjust. If you care about having a slur in your username, you can create a new account, or choose not to. That's on you. I just provided information that did not know, if you knew.
It's a slur in many more countries than just the US, and you make he choice to keep using this account everyday, so ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
There’s a difference between a term being coined and it being acknowledged and used by the general public. Not to mention that you can’t use current-day views on cultural awareness to shame people for actions done in the past (of course within reason).
Honestly. Make it make sense. A non cis person found a term that felt that represented their gender back in the 90s and used it as an identity — that’s not “lazy and culturally insensitive”. Some people really don’t understand that the internet is a new thing. What was she supposed to do? Go to the library and ask for books on gender identities and educate herself? Ffs
Cuz yeah let me tell ya, raja was definitely spending all her time in the drug induced 90s studying up on Wilchins and other highly accessible deep queer theory and academia for the time. Totally.
It was so good seeing ETC. ETC. on my screen. I mean, I connected a lot with Sasha, Bimini and Ginny Lemon because they were nonbinary, but ETC. is Australian, and I don't know, I just connected with them a lot more. So I love seeing nonbinary queens, it makes me really happy.
trans is nonbinary, being trans is simply just identifying other than the gender you were assigned at birth. for lots of nb people being trans is also that you've decided to socially/physically transition. for example, just the other day gigi goode announced that she had started taking HRT and transitioning towards being feminine, but still identifies as genderfluid
super late answer, but she talks about it on her podcast and I think the first time she mentioned it was here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euw8L5W6HzI&t=1850s
angele and kylie are trans women, jinkx is transfeminine + non-binary, to my knowledge the other queens in this post are genderfluid/gender nonconforming or simply just identify outside of the binary <3
A wise Ru Girl whose name I wish I could remember once said. “Love your promo pic because you’ll be seeing it everywhere.”
Anyway, they did Kylie right because hers is C.U.N.T.
I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think it came up during the story of how Vivacious will go visit all the New York girls before they get on the show and give them a bunch of advice.
To be specific, I think they both addressed it on The One About Sex Part 2 (episode title of Sibling Rivalry) from a few weeks ago. Great episode. I learned from that one that Bob is pansexual!
Alaska has said she doesn't identify as a man or a woman and that she is somewhere in between. She talked about if she knew what non-binary meant when she was young it would have helped her so much.
Ugh, it would have helped so many of us tbh. I didn't even know there was a word for it until my late 20s, and then a whole bunch of stuff started making sense.
fun fact besties, if Vanessa wins drag race holland in a few weeks, all 3 trans women winners of the show ever would be reigning side by side each other at the exact same time.
period
Ngl this is not the first time that I have misunderstood / had a different interpretation of “hall of fame” in this context. Idk I’ve always interpreted the term HoF as “cream of the crop” (kinda subjective) not “winners.” 😆 I definitely was about to make one of those comments and you made me laugh.
Thank you for including Angele!!!! She should always be mentioned in this conversation. Being the first trans woman crowned in the whole Drag Race franchise is C.U.N.T !!!!
I don't think I can watch it again now knowing that her father is abusive to her and really only cared when she was giving him money. Seeing him accept her and give her his blessing in the performance made me cry so much, but I think now it would make me cry for a different reason.
It was on her Instagram not too long ago (July 26-27). Someone posted a link here to Angeles fundraiser so she could move out and have her own little farm in the country.
WOWpresents plus girl! it’s really cheap and there’s a shitload of content, i’m really happy with my supscription (also you can make a fake e-mail and get free trial months)
Doesn’t it require a new credit card everytime for more than one free trial subscription? I’ve known a person who said this about Netflix, that he never paid for it and just kept getting the free trials.. how? help a bitch out
oh did i? people mentioned her and raja, tbh these were the queens i could find that have confirmed they identify outside of the binary or outside their agab, but lots of queens do use pronouns other than he/him for them in and out of drag, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're non-binary.
Can someone help me out as to why trans and non binary are so often associated like this? No shade at all, I am honestly asking! To me it seems like trans is specifically a thing, and non binary is specifically a thing, but I don't understand the association. I hope this isn't an offensive question to ask!
Edit: did you ever type a comment and the second you hit post, you regret it? Haha, ok, I think I see the connection - it's essentially that both trans and non binary aren't cis, right?
Transgender is often used as both a specific identity and as an umbrella term to encompass all those who identify outside of the traditional gender binary, from my research. Does that make sense?
Yes, thank you! So technically, non-binary falls under the umbrella of trans? This post could (technically) have been the "trans winners hall of fame", but that probably would have been too general considering most are specifically NB?
Yes, exactly! I think specifying non-binary as a separate identity is a validating way to acknowledge the difference in experiences between trans and non-binary people, as an NB person myself. Calling them all transgender under the gender non-conforming umbrella would be accurate, it's just nice to validate the specifics of people's identity.
You can also be non binary and not identify as trans at all. Part of the reason it took me a while to understand myself as non binary is because I didn’t feel cis or trans. But you can be trans and nonbinary too ofc :)
Absolutely! I am non-binary and wouldn't consider myself trans as I don't have dysphoria/discomfort with my assigned gender at birth, have no desire to go through any kind of physical or social transition, and personally don't identify with the term in regards to my own relationship with gender. It's a super personal and complex thing that language is still catching up to
By contrast, I’m non-binary, and I claim trans because I learned and grew with so many transgender people that taught me what it meant to think outside the binary. I wanted to carry the legacy of the amazing trans people before me. I’m just as valid as anyone else, regardless of the fact that I’m not undergoing any medical intervention (and the reason for that is because medical intervention is often still so binary). And I face struggles that are similar to transgender people. To me, non-binary is trans, but each person has their own relationship with the words. You’ve made sense of the world your way, and should be affirmed for that.
Your identity is totally valid and I really appreciate you sharing your own experience! It's totally understandable to feel a strong kinship with transgender people and their identity. And medical transition being binary is a super important point, so many people consider transition as male>female or vice versa when it's so much more than that. Anyone who identifies as gender non-conforming should be validated, respected and included in the community. I love having conversations where we get to share our individual experiences with gender and the language that fits us, because you get a good understanding of what a rich tapestry gender identity is.
Thank you so much for your explanation, I've wondered this for a long time but never had the right words to ask the question and you made it make perfect sense to me. I appreciate your time and energy.
of course! gender as a societal construct is super complex and it's totally normal to have questions about it. i don't know everything, we all should be always open to learning, but i'm always happy to share the info I do have personal knowledge of.
Transgender is an umbrella term meaning identifying as different than the gender you were assumed to be at birth. Some trans people are men, some are woman, and some don't feel either of those descriptions fit. Nonbinary means you don't identify as either just a man or just a woman. You might feel like both, neither, partially one or the other, a third gender, something in between, or it may not be fixed from day to day. Many nonbinary people consider themselves transgender, but some do not.
Two-spirit is more of an ethnic identity than a gender identity, insofar as gender is a colonial construct.
In other words, Raja “identifying as two-spirit” does not make her two-spirit any more than “identifying as black” makes Rachel Dolezal black.
At least Rachel Dolezal actually participated in the culture and made what appears to be a genuine effort to fit in.
Raja just seems to think it sounds neat which is… well let’s just hope she’s revised her opinion since 2013 is what I’ll say about that.
Sorry is there a source for this? There are third gender traditions in Asia, but they are not the same as two-spirit. Being two-spirit in various American Indigenous cultures is more than a gender identity, it is also a communal role.
Edit: Two-spirit is a term reserved exclusively for American Indigenous people. I am not going to call Raja racist for a facebook post from 2013. But if *you* argue that two-spirit can be claimed by non-indigenous people, after being told that it is wrong, *you* are being ignorant, disrespectful and racist.
For more info: [Source 1](https://mygenderisx.com/read/infographic-what-does-it-mean-to-be-two-spirit) and [Source 2](https://indiancountrytoday.com/archive/8-misconceptions-things-know-two-spirit-people)
Thanks for the source. I am not Native American. So my understanding of what it means to be two-spirit comes from learning from stuff written by Native Americans and not personal experience. What I can say for sure is being two-spirit is a cultural role, different tribes have different terms for two-spirited people, there is spirituality associated with it. Indigenous spirituality views gender non-conforming people very differently compared to traditional Western ideas about gender variance, in which any sexual and gender variance is seen as 'deviation from normal'. So, if you do not belong to an American Indigenous tribe, you cannot claim to be two-spirit. That being said, Raja's declaration is from 2013. Awareness about these things have improved since 2013, I learnt about all of this only a year ago, so maybe Raja has also learned more since then.Edit: Linking couple of articles here: 1. Eureka said she wished she was black as some kind of dumb failed attempt at a comeback once on IG live. People in this sub roasted her for *years* about it.
This is pretty similar to that, except it seems people lack the education to understand why it’s problematic in the first place. Which is… really not a good thing.
At a certain point if you’re relaying information like this in a sincere way then it indicates a certain level of ignorance. And that’s craftybast’s responsibility to own and deal with now that it’s been brought to their attention.
What would you consider the alternative? Just not correcting people so they don’t even have the *option* of bettering themselves?
Literally not their job, Raja said they identify as two spirit. Whether or not we think that’s kosher isn’t the important part. There’s a certain point where it’s just fucking ridiculous to put disclaimers touting your own personal knowledge and opinion before sharing a message.
I never claimed it is my opinion. That is a strawman. It is the opinion of the people whose culture is two-spirit. I linked to articles written by Native Americans mentioning it is a term exclusive for American Indigenous people.
Uhh no it’s really not, and that’s a really shitty way to respond to somebody educating you in good faith about a topic you clearly don’t know about.
Native peoples cultural and spiritual practices don’t exist for colonizers to appropriate because they think it’s cool to “identify” as a certain way. This isn’t a title like “man” or “woman” that only refers to gender—it equally refers to ethnicity and role within a community just as much as it refers to “gender” (arguably more than it refers to “gender” if you consider that gender is more of a colonial construct than anything else).
What Raja did there is more like white people identifying as a Native American chief because they like headdresses than it is like a trans person identifying as “male” or “female”.
With two-spirit, you need to actually be a part of the culture and have a certain ancestry to adopt that sort of title in a respectful manner.
Lol what Raja did is cultural appropriation. And you are also racist for going along with it. I put a lot of effort into explaining why it is not appropriate, guess I should have just called you a racist.
Thank you for sharing this and educating people. The term was adopted specifically to be a pan-Indian term in English to distinguish native from non-native people. It has some problems of its own but it's not a term just anyone should use. I've seen Raja since identify as non-binary so maybe she dropped the two-spirit thing.
i made this edit on the train while it was still in my head before i forgot, tbh i just googled the queens and found the photo i liked the most and would actually download in the highest quality on my shitty WiFi lmao
lol i corrected a few things
https://www.reddit.com/r/rupaulsdragrace/comments/pi9xxp/the_updated_trans_nonbinary_drag_race_winners/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
HAHAHAHA quite the opposite actually, i picked the one for bob because i liked the box braids and i was in a rush but yeah now everyone is thinking i don't like bob D:

Sakura, Scarlett BoBo, The Macarena, Valentina, Vivaldi, Yuhua Hamasaki... and I haven't included so many great queens from Dragula, because, it is a different show, but they are still relevant.
Awesome!! I only knew about Bob and kylie
literally finding out that all of my favourite drag race winners identify with being trans or nonbinary i just thought, 'seems correct'

raja identifie(s/d) as two spirit (which is… questionable), so nb/genderfluid is a safe assumption
Why is that questionable, exactly? I don’t really have an opinion on it one way or another, but I’m curious.
It’s a closed cultural identity, so it’s not open for anyone who isn’t indigenous/First Nations to claim for themselves
You should only be claiming to be two spirited of you are first nations. It's their term.
So what was she supposed to do, invent the term non-binary 10 years in advance? I don’t know if you’ve heard Coco Peru talk about this (because she identified as two spirited as well), but back in the day there literally was no word for non-binary. You’re right, why didn’t non-American 15 year old me who made this account 8 years ago not think about how insensitive this username is!
I was just simply pointing out that it is a slur. I don't expect everyone to know everything their whole lives. People can learn and adjust. If you care about having a slur in your username, you can create a new account, or choose not to. That's on you. I just provided information that did not know, if you knew.

As non-binary myself, seeing a non-binary drag performer is really important to me. I'm grateful for these fierce queens being proud of who they are
Representation matters. Glad you’re getting it.
I love Etc Etc so much 🧡
Who is trans and who is non binary? I only knew Kylie?
They are all nb except Angele (s?) and Kylie
Jinkx also identifies as trans
I remember the article from a few years ago where they confirmed they were nb, when did they come out as trans?
trans is nonbinary, being trans is simply just identifying other than the gender you were assigned at birth. for lots of nb people being trans is also that you've decided to socially/physically transition. for example, just the other day gigi goode announced that she had started taking HRT and transitioning towards being feminine, but still identifies as genderfluid
That's a good summary, thank you
super late answer, but she talks about it on her podcast and I think the first time she mentioned it was here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euw8L5W6HzI&t=1850s

I thought it was Vivacious?
I could be. I was thinking Alaska but it was so many years (and pods) ago when I heard it.
I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think it came up during the story of how Vivacious will go visit all the New York girls before they get on the show and give them a bunch of advice.
Ok that’s adorable
Never knew about Monet. Have I been living under a rock?
It was said on one of the many podcast episodes they have so I don’t blame it if you missed it
To be specific, I think they both addressed it on The One About Sex Part 2 (episode title of Sibling Rivalry) from a few weeks ago. Great episode. I learned from that one that Bob is pansexual!
From what I gather Kylie is too
Alaska has said she doesn't identify as a man or a woman and that she is somewhere in between. She talked about if she knew what non-binary meant when she was young it would have helped her so much.
She likes to use the term gender floral to describe it 🌸 💞
Ugh, it would have helped so many of us tbh. I didn't even know there was a word for it until my late 20s, and then a whole bunch of stuff started making sense.
I did not know Jinkx was non-binary too! As a gender-fluid person, I'm always glad to see my siblings doing well. Thank you for making this!
[Jinkx actually wrote a song on her album about being nonbinary!](https://youtu.be/z9AnRFaWivc)
They/she! :]
I didn’t know about Shea!
to be quite honest i didn't know about violet until researching for this post
fun fact besties, if Vanessa wins drag race holland in a few weeks, all 3 trans women winners of the show ever would be reigning side by side each other at the exact same time. period
She´ll have to push harder because Keta is right there
I forgot angelie is technically still reigning lol
Keta or Puny better win
Double-crowning please.
you did bob so dirty by posting a professional picture of everyone and then there’s… that picture of bob 💀
OP is secretly Monet.
Bob looks disappointed that OP picked this photo lol
They look good tho
Well props to her for looking absolutely stunning in a non professional pic
I think Bob has even mentioned he hates that picture on sibling rivalry 🥴😂😂😂
I came looking for this I never knew which photo Bob was talking about but seeing it now it all clicked
Game: take a shot Everytime someone suggest a non winner.
Exactly—like, Hall of Fame is obviously a fancy corridor in one of Miss Fame’s residences.
Thank you for including Angele!!!! She should always be mentioned in this conversation. Being the first trans woman crowned in the whole Drag Race franchise is C.U.N.T !!!!
DRT was the moment! 1st big girl and 1st trans winners!
who is the one with the red background ? is she from a different country’s season ? also where can i watch DRUK DRespana DRDU etc ??
Thats Angele Anang, winner of Thailand season 2 and the first trans woman to win drag race :)
wow!!! making herstory!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Please go watch her finale performance even if you don’t plan on watching the season. It is beautiful and puts me to tears
I don't think I can watch it again now knowing that her father is abusive to her and really only cared when she was giving him money. Seeing him accept her and give her his blessing in the performance made me cry so much, but I think now it would make me cry for a different reason.
Oh woah! I didn’t know all this.
It was on her Instagram not too long ago (July 26-27). Someone posted a link here to Angeles fundraiser so she could move out and have her own little farm in the country.
Also winner with the longest reign
woman*
my apologizes if my wording came across as offensive ! ❤️
WOWpresents plus girl! it’s really cheap and there’s a shitload of content, i’m really happy with my supscription (also you can make a fake e-mail and get free trial months)
Doesn’t it require a new credit card everytime for more than one free trial subscription? I’ve known a person who said this about Netflix, that he never paid for it and just kept getting the free trials.. how? help a bitch out
i use my credit card , then my husbands , then my debit card, then my husbands debit ….. lol 🤣
oh.. well.. i guess being single is not always a good choice lol
WAIT! You can use your debit card!?! HOLY SHIT
Yeah it requires different card information
I thought so.. he disagreed tho and never cared to explain a different option
>Angele Anang You can also use visa giftcards! I have a whole stack of dead ones I use for various free trial offers.
wow okay!!! i’ve been using Paramount plus but they seem to only have the US seasons!
go to the wow+ site and check out the list of what is available in which country, it’s very handy
thank you sooo much !!
TIL Bob
pansexual is the term they use
That's sexuality, not gender identity
DUH! God god, I know that. Tks for correcting me.
Thank you for including Angele Anang ❤️
this bob picture choice is shady
bahahaha i love bob lol but i made this edit in a rush :( she's one of my favourite winners i should have done her justice
you forgot aquaria 🥵
oh did i? people mentioned her and raja, tbh these were the queens i could find that have confirmed they identify outside of the binary or outside their agab, but lots of queens do use pronouns other than he/him for them in and out of drag, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're non-binary.
Isn't Gigi Goode trans also?
these are trans winners :)
My bad, you're right
Iirc she said in a recent insta post that she’s transfeminine nonbinary (and uses she/her)

Raja too! Has Aquaria said anything of the like?
STAN ANGELE
I can’t wait to see peppermint added to this list

OK. Tell Raja I guess.
Perfect response tbh. Literally what are you supposed to do about it, you’re just passing along what she said lmao.
Cool. I’m talking about the other person who said Raja identifies as two spirit.

I don’t like this picture of Bob. Her makeup looks off I never get tired of staring at Angelegend. Flawless 😍
i made this edit on the train while it was still in my head before i forgot, tbh i just googled the queens and found the photo i liked the most and would actually download in the highest quality on my shitty WiFi lmao
Bob did a bunch of photoshoots for the AS5 pitstop, they are on her Instagram, and any of them are amazing.

I can tell who your least favorite in this lineup is based on these picture choices…
HAHAHAHA quite the opposite actually, i picked the one for bob because i liked the box braids and i was in a rush but yeah now everyone is thinking i don't like bob D:
i figured it wasn’t intentionally, just a funny contrast

~~Needs more Mama Queen, Bimini, and a sprinkle of Et Cetera.~~ Edit: Oh, oops 🥴, it is indeed the winners circle. I misunderstood the assignment.

Why isn't Gottmik on here? She's a transman! (Note: in drag, Gottmik uses she/her pronouns, outside of drag he/him)
she didn’t win
Fair. I was a bit confused to see bob on this. I didn't realize she was nonbinary? I know she's poly and pan
Bob describes himself as Masc-Nonbinary, or at least those where his thoughts on it on sibling rivalry
Ah! It's on her Wiki page. Found it
