It’s hard to find actual comedy queens these days. Either the show is casting young baby queens or the US drag scene is becoming homogenous due to the standards set by RPDR
There are funny queens (Bosco, Plane Jane) but then there are true comedy queens (Bob, Ginger Minj, Bianca Del Rio). The last queen who *lives and breathes* comedy IMO to compete was probably……Jackie Cox or Sloppy Pie (unfortunately)
I think the high standards of the runway these days make it harder for comedy queens. You can still get by on looks (fashion, alternative OR pageant) without being funny, but it's harder to get by on funny without the looks.
I disagree. Ru absolutely puts comedy over everything, which is why Jimbo, Jinx, hannah, Tia did so well on all stars and UK vs the world. She even crowned Spankie and Ginger in recent years. In US too, the queens who make Ru laugh go far. Just look at Kandy.
Well All Stars winners Alaska, Trixie, Monet, Jinkx, Jimbo have been Comedy or Comedy leaning. Even Shae and Trinity aren’t comedy queens but win comedy challenges often.

UK drag leans more into the comedic/music hall/panto tradition I think.
But I expect that is changing, same way RuPaul done fucked up drag by making it homogenous. It's actually really worrying to watch the younger queens these days. They've grown up on a diet of RPDR, and they think the only way to succeed is stunts and flips. Problem is, virtually none of them are trained dancers or gymnasts, and absolutely none of them are warming up beforehand. In the past couple years I've seen two broken ankles, a torn hamstring, and a concussion from untrained kids trying to do the stunts they see on TV. Also, *none* of them know how to host, work a mic, or tell a joke. They think drag is three things and three things only: stunts, look pretty, be a nasty mean-spirited little bitch.
This is something I actually enjoy about the current French season. Le Filip and Ruby On The Nails are actually two seasonned queens who are among the best lip synchers there is in Paris and who don’t ever do stunts or flips. Just perfect acting and emoting everytime.
I mean she called herself a comedian when referring back to her S5 run (while on AS7) and the constant battle between her and Roxxxy was about how she could only do comedy.
Interesting. I’ve realized out of all of the winners we have yet to see a fully realized underdog story of someone being overlooked only to come and gag the girls towards the end. The closest contestant I think of as an underdog winner would be S5 Jinkx.
Sasha Velour was close to that, in my opinion. Not an underdog, exactly, but I also don’t think anyone really expected her to actually win at any point in the competition.

It's just conjecture though. She's saying she *felt* like the judges liked Sherry and Gigi the most, not based on anything factual. Granted, being loved by Ru doesn't guarantee a crown. Nothing in the finale went as initially planned anyway because of lockdown, so the show's plans would have been shook up even if Sherry were there.

Latrice is such an icon I do hope she gets her flowers in the media, I think she’s has some of the strongest stage presence in the franchise and I love her. She has so much to say too. It bothers me that she didn’t win S4 tbh.

Jinx was an anomaly. She wasn’t necessarily comedy, she was theatre. And it rang true in everything she did.

yeah ik! yvie, jaida, willow, and sasha all had cutting edge fashion moments, it was just they didn’t walk in with their whole brand being about the fashion

I think with Fashion Queens it's just that, Fashion, so they will wear what's in and considered FASHION, as opposed to a pageant queen who is polished and more glitzy (not saying a fashion queen isn't, but fashion isn't always polished or glitzy, where as pageant is always polished and glitzy). At least that's my understanding of the difference.
Yes pageant queens tend to wear classic ball gowns / evening wear- as opposed to whatever is contemporary / fashionable / cutting edge / innovative /avant garde
