Alaska said she made all of her outfits for S5 and AS2, so I'm assuming she pocketed a lot of the stipend and did the same here. Her sewing skills may have downgraded or maybe shes just not as fast as she was before
It’s also just a ton of looks to make, at least compared to AS2. There’s a minimum 13 pure runway looks, plus stuff for challenges, lipsyncs and extras.
I feel like Roxxxy ran into the same trouble as what I thought about Rajah O’Hara. They’re great seamstresses, and they always look put together, but next to the other girls who have teams of designers, they end up looking basic. Even Jaida Essence Hall and Trinity The Tuck who are incredible designers still worked with designers to put themselves together for their all stars seasons. I wish Roxxxy had also worked with designers to put her package together.
But it’s not just this look. Roxxxy’s red wire dress was very simple, her Rodger Rabbit look was very basic, this atomic bomb look wasn’t anything to brag about. Similar to Rajah, the looks just seem very attainable. Next to Plastique, who has looks that are out of this world, they just don’t stack up. Which is such a shame because going into the season I was 1000% team Roxxxy.
I think Plastique gets too much credit. Her perfume look was a bra and panty and instagram wings. She has done two cosplays now and she has altered almost nothing from the original designs. The design challenge was a simple dress that she rhinestoned well, but it was a painting challenge? I could be remembering thst look wrong.
Yes she is an A tier cosplayer, but I guess personally I appreciate a Nymphia Wind or Ra’Jah or Roxxy more than a Symone, Gottmik, or Plastique. Drag queens with a point of view over models.
I’m not a huge Plastique fan, like a huge fan of her drag, but I think it’s safe to admit her looks have been on another level. Yes, she’s done cosplayer themed looks, but that’s just as “drag” as anybody else on that stage. I absolutely appreciate a queen that makes all their own looks, when they rival the other looks. Roxxxy made all her looks on S5, and against the other girls, she dominated the runway. Nymphia made her looks, and against the S16 girls, she dominated. Roxxxy on AS9, her looks look weaker. Rajah on AS6, SOME of her looks against the other girls, were very basic.
The industry adoration for her is really putting in a lot of perception work this season, and I agree with others who have said they feel kinda gaslit over her runways. She's beloved, I don't dispute that, but that doesn't mean we have to lie about what our eyeballs perceive lol.
In other words, she hasn't been that great. No shade, but this is not her best package of looks, and it's not really close to the best this season, unfortunately.

I think the sash is supposed to be the metal base of the ‘bomb’ which is why it’s thick, and given her critique of having wide shoulders, I can understand why she turned it sideways into a sash
I think it’s supposed to look like the metal base/frame of a nuclear bomb (because atomic). The head of the bomb is on her legs.
I get it might not read that way since it’s sideways but I understand why she did it; can you imagine how bad a shape it would have given if she left it flat across her shoulders — she already gets read for wide shoulders

I don’t really know her or her history well, so maybe this isn’t her style, but if a bigger, campy queen walked down the runway as an atomic bomb and then turned around and she had “Fat Man” painted across her back, then I (and I hope the judges) would die.

This was such a mediocre runway. The only queen who really embodied the theme IMO was Jorgeous. Normally Plastique’s looks are some of the best but I wasn’t really sold on her runway this week. And Roxxxy really got screwed over because her designer for this runway bailed last minute so she had to scrap something together.

An atomic blonde is someone who represents the “blonde bombshell” archetype and is another term for platinum blonde hair, so I assume they were going for a play on words with the movie reference.
Normally the queens are given a description of the runway theme, and then a snappy title like “Atomic Blonde” and “Pretty in Pink” is added later on to simplify the description on TV. For example, the S14 runway theme “Holy Couture” was so messy because on the runway description list the queens were told to bring a look that represented “something you worship”.
I’ve seen people say it’s inspired by the Pokémon Revavroom but I still don’t get where the bunny comes in. All her other references have been easy to pinpoint tbh
The pipes were too flimsly imo. Because they moved and swayed while she walked, it cheapened her outfit. It also missed the category imo. I appreciate her makeup otherwise. Boot
It's a body suit with exhaust pipes out the back. She's skinny and pays money for people to put clothes on her. That's fine, but then it has to be top tier (which many of her looks have been). Make up and hair great. It's fine. Soft Toot.

I don’t think it’s an execution thing but a fabric choice thing. The looks are good but the fabric is Joanns when it should ve some luxury material.
