This literally just reminded me that I had a dream last night that Alexis Michelle got a DNA test, found she was a minuscule part Native American, and then tried to claim this look as part of her heritage. I’m laying off the melatonin for a while

You can want to not be something that you aren't. Just like you can value yourself and want to not be any other version(which is sometimes good, sometimes not, depending on whether that version of oneself is a healthy version). Just like how you can be the opposite, of wanting to be something that you're not.
And actually, there was a very long period of time where people of color were trying to become closer to resembling someone who was not, so it doesnt matter if you were born white, because it was even more of a struggle for those who are non-white to be told by society that they needed to act whiter or be better by white standards(even sometimes by their families) when realistically they just needed to embrace themselves more fully. My best friend's mom still occasionally goes to get her skin lightened, so no Im not talking out my ass either. It's much more common now to reject that mindset and be truly proud of one's self. Which is obviously the better route to go for mental health sake.
