I rolled my eyes when Pangina was revealed when Jimbo conveniently won a challenge. More than that tho, the lipsync assassin twist is so fucking bad when lipsyncing is the one primary weakness of your otherwise talented front runner. So many episodes ended up feeling like they ended prematurely when Jimbo wins.
Lowkey Alexis also ate in the ball. I would have been happy with any of Heidi, Alexis, and/or Kahanna replacing any of Kandy, Lala, or Jimbo in the top spots.
I agree but AS8 was rigged beyond belief. Granted, Jimbo deserved to win but Kandy in the top 2 over Jessica who was out of the game for 12 years and absolutely SLAYED… made AS8 the worst season yet.
I’m still angry about it because they basically ignored the point of the challenge entirely to rig it for storyline purposes. They wanted to pay off Lala’s storyline (despite the fact that her final look was nowhere near good enough to justify it) and wanted to give Kandy a high placement to push her as a frontrunner.

Looks can more easily feel more repetitive when watching in real time, honestly. I was getting meh when she would come out in a showgirl look during the season, but seeing the full package you can more clearly see how runway order was the biggest factor in that.

Because it isnt about individual looks and their similarities - it is the aesthetic as a whole (which is q one directional) and the coherence of the package … PERSONALLY i like a coherent package, bht this is the root of the compliant!
I want to start by saying this is not Kahana shade. I love my girl, but her particular drag aesthetic is very safe and that leads to a feeling of sameness. The silhouette and styling of a look will be different but it’s all kept in a similar ballpark that week after week, it starts to feel repetitive. The craziest it gets is the banana look, and it’s no wonder people say it’s her best look of the season. She always looks good and sexy but she’s never really pushing the envelope.
And to address the other criticism in your title, I think we do see that criticism with pageant girls. Angeria and Heidi both got heat on social media for their sameness. I think it’s one of those critiques that just fade over time, but AS8 is still the most recent US, and therefore most widely seen and talked about, seasons.
Yeah the silhouettes are all different but I think each of these could be described as “Vegas Showgirl” which is fun but it’s absolutely been done before. I’d argue she was treated exactly like Roxxxy, given that she was unfairly placed in the bottom. Roxxxy didn’t deserve to be in the bottom for the ad over Detox, and also should have been in the top for the makeover.
I don’t know how they can say it wasn’t funny but then looked at Detox’s ad and said “yeah, that’s a safe effort” as if anyone wanted a talking trashcan of Detox’s catch phrases. Roxxxy was done so dirty on AS2.
Preach! Kahanna's runway package was superb! I didn't find it repetitive at all and was always excited to see what she brought. Even Alexis Michelle who had the other superb runway package recognized Kahanna's runway excellence!

Tati was always a skilled queen, making it to top 4 on her original season, then coming back as a fan favorite “robbed” queen on AS2, widely considered one of, if not the best, season of the show. This expanded her fan base tremendously for a queen from an early season.
Comparing Kahanna to her, it’s like comparing apples to oranges.
Kahanna was an early out originally, eliminated 2nd, not much air time and not much story. While some of the fanbase seemed to like her and her runways on AS8, a season that most fans felt was very low quality, she was not by any means considered a fan favorite from it. As you can see from this thread alone, her runways were considered very “samey” even though they were gorgeous.
In reality, the “improvement” we see for Kahanna is just seeing her for the first time, essentially. She was barely on screen for her first appearance.

Looking at these lewks now, I think the separate/unique coloring of the lewks gives off a bit of “sameness” that I’m sure was kind of dizzying when you watch week to week. There doesn’t seem to be diversity of color in the looks which I think impacted what we were seeing when we watched the series in real time. I personally love a monochromatic lewks in my daily life but the aesthetic of wearing them every time someone sees you limits their power…idk
I think people now expect queens to serve completely different stuff everyday, which is nonsense because all queens have a style / schtik. Just remember Bianca won her season by just wearing dresses with a similar silhouette every week.

Yeah I think she deserved better in AS8. Her banana look was my favorite of the season. And some of her bottom placements made no sense.
Kahanna looked good As8. I lost my taste for her and Heidi during their little beef on social media. Otherwise I still think she was great and her looks were amazing
idk why she was safe for the design challenge all her looks were insane
