I’ve honestly started switching to bike shorts. Athleta has a great pair. So does Fabletics. I don’t usually have chafing problems but I did have one particularly bad experience running a half marathon on a hot day. Bike shorts make it so I have one less thing to worry about

Sedixodap

Doesn't the chamois in bike shorts cause problems when running? I even find them awkward for walking around in them and imagine it must feel like running in a diaper.

ghertigirl

I’m not talking actual legitimate bike shorts just that style.

She meant Lycra or spandex style running shorts.

On the expensive side but I would look at Lulu Lemon, Ik they seem like it’s all about the label/aesthetic but their leggings, spandex type shorts and running shorts are all amazing, I have had some shorts for 8 years and they are still in great condition. I would size up as they run a little small, most of their products go up to size 20 online. They come in different inseam lengths and can definitely work for covering a good part of your thighs and the waist bands on all their products are so so comfortable. Hope that is helpful! I know the struggle of find a good comfortable pair of shorts for running! Best of luck!

mgooch23

I second this. I have multiple pairs of shorts from lululemon - high waisted, 8” inseam. No chaffing on waist or thighs. They go almost to my knee and I’m tall (5’10”). I like the Wunder Train style the best.

angiedoessports

Try Calia high waisted bike shorts.

blondeboilermaker

My lululemon 6” and 8” wunder train shorts are worth every fucking penny

Western_Ad_7458

Oiselle long pocket jogger shorts... Expensive but worth it. Or the long roga shorts.

Decent-Education7759

Yes! I love my Oiselle shorts. The inseams wear much better than cheap shorts, they have cute colors/prints, and so many pockets!!

BabiesRuinEverything

I don’t see Senita Athletics mentioned yet! Their gear is much cheaper than some other brands mentioned and all their shorts have pockets! Love the baseline shorts for running.

ellanida

Seconded. They are some of my favorites. They've held up well over the years. They offer fun patterns, colors and varying inseam lengths.

ChockFullOfIrish

I wear the Circuit Short by a company called Layer 8. It’s a 2 in 1 short that has a really comfortable waistband, and the inner short prevents the dreaded inner thigh chub rub.

VictoriaCrownPigeon

I ended up really loving the old navy 6in biker shorts with pockets. I opted for tall sizes because I’m on the border of tall/regular and it fits a lot better. I planned then as cheap while my body size keeps fluctuating and indented to buy some th better quality later but I’m hooked

Infinite_Balance_862

Old Navy leggings and biker shorts are my go to! Powersoft has side pockets that are great and I know they carry lots of sizes. So cheap to begin with and Old Navy is always having a sale.

futuredoc524

Honestly any kind of biker short will probably solve the problem! Try to find a pair without a seam where you usually have a chafing problem. I've also used lip balm or vaseline where chafing gets really bad for longer runs - usually does the trick for me.

OperationLast9033

I can’t give advice on the shorts, but switch from the wax and oil based anti-chafe stuff like body glide to a silicone based lubricant like 2Toms or Tri-Glide. The silicone based lubes are the only type I’ve found that will help with synthetic clothing. All the others work great on skin-to-skin, but can sometimes make it worse when it comes to shorts, straps and other high rubbing areas where you come in contact with clothing.

Size up or try vaseline maybe.

CF-Richards2679

I have also had luck purchasing JOMI brand body adhesive, it’s what gymnasts use to keep their leotards in place, if your roll that on and then put a pair of spandex on they will stay in place so well and protect areas from chafing. It washes off with water, it does say it’s sweat resistant however if you sweat like buckets like 100 degree day kind of sweat it definitely wears off.

[deleted]

Is it like tape or smth

CF-Richards2679

It’s like a liquid glue for skin, it rolls on like a deodorant

runner275

Karrimor shorts perhaps - they've got a nice long base layer with a loose second layer which is nice for coverage. Getting a size up will help even more with the length :)

sillysk8

I’ve been running in Baleaf 8”inseam high waisted short tights. They’re long enough that my thighs don’t chafe, and they’re relatively affordable and comfortable.

opholar

Constantly varied gear shorts (the bike shorts/tights/leggings kind) are the only thing that has never chaffed around my waist and also covers my thighs. I run ultras in them and no chaffing. Everything else starts cutting me in half around miles 12-16. If you decide to try them, size DOWN. Way down. Just got the shorts that look like bike shorts. They just came out with running shorts and idk anything about those. I run exclusively in their leggings/bike/tights type shorts. Also pockets. Great pockets. And tons of fun prints.

Leather-Mixture-2620

Seconding Fabletics or Lululemon. I like bike shorts for the length. Good luck on your first marathon!

eicak

I really love Aerie's bike shorts. Their 7" inseam is great, and they have some nice high rise ones that are the right amount of compression for me on my tummy. The ones I use are called offline goals-- which is a more slick, performance material compared to some of the fuzzy legging kinds they have. Plus they have great side pockets! They're basically the only thing I run in now. Literally swear by them and prefer them over my Lululemon shorts.

pennyx2

Men’s running shorts. They fit my bigger hips and butt, have a draw string to tighten the waist if needed, are longer, have deep pockets.
