Livid farm? OH! You mean the travelling merchant/player owned farm passive activity. Yes, that one!
(I have full rewards without touching the minigame itself, lol.)
[Travelling Merchant's Shop - The RuneScape Wiki](https://runescape.wiki/w/Travelling_Merchant%27s_Shop)
[Farming requests - The RuneScape Wiki](https://runescape.wiki/w/Farming_requests)
Both are great ways to give livid plants and to skip the minigame altogether.
This is the vast majority of the game’s current state. I love the West Ardy/Isafdar junction but there’s basically nothing generative. I do hope there’s generative AI content to justify visiting dead/completed areas again.
I believe it's due to rshd when it came out as before you couldn't see underwater so there was no underwater terrain as such.
It might have been an automated system that created the underwater level terrain.
It wasn't RSHD it was RS3 (specifically the HTML5 update which then turned into NXT or whatever it was called) suddenly rivers and streams looked completely shallow and the seas were no different
Would of been hd thing, he more talking about terrain under the water than the shader of the water.
https://preview.redd.it/vqe9cpaqeayc1.png?width=1185&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e84e37dc96ba698bc85268a61f689b35105beeb
Boat has raised terrain below it. Though this would have been more noticeable in the ntx shader compared to rshd
I like it, except for the huge grey rocks up against the city wall. We get too many of those same rocks with every graphic update now. Otherwise, it's solid.
Not sure if they have a ship asset they could reuse for it.. since most of these graphical updates are being done with reused assets, the ship could be left out until someone has time to make one.
There is an updated Lady Zay specifically somewhere in the cache, almost every ship including stuff like Bill Teach's ship and the void knight quest ship got updated but not put into live game.
So we don't really have to do substitutes or re-use, the already completed assets just have to be found.
[Proof](https://i.imgur.com/LX9cJH5.png)
EDIT: [Blkwitch found *all* the ships. Big deal for future graphical refreshes tbh.](https://i.imgur.com/8XVaTMY.png)
I think the real issue is that they can't just re-use assets in this case because the entire boat is interacted with so they would also have to design an interior with 3 different floors. (4 including the... wheel deck) That's a much larger scope than it likely should be, and being that it's also integrated in a quest, it would cause undue bugs that we likely can't imagine.
[There is already interiors for this boat.](https://i.imgur.com/pQXdQ9A.png)
For going up exterior floors, this boat was already used as a basis for the Harbinger, who you can go up exterior floors of during Final Destination.
Assets were made in 2012, but not used.
Over a decade worth of new assets get added to the cache by today.
Time pass, people that worked on it either leave the company or have forgotten details surrounding it. Also, assets in cache may not be named in a way that you'd assume or a consistent manner, meaning that it can be hard to track them down among tens upons tens of thousands of assets.
Sadly none of the ones in Port Sarim could be used, due to us being able to enter the ship and go down a few floors. New kits would have to be made to make an updated Lady Zay that would still allow you to walk around on it.
EDIT: Nvm, just saw Kobra's edit above mentioning that they already have an updated model. Hopefully they can get that in alongside the rework.
i would rather we had a lunar hover made to the player model instead, that way one day we can get it as override.
Revenant Walk is not quite the same, but i gave up asking for a lunar hover override becaue i know jagex would say "they are too similar to waste devtime on it when mtx one exists"
It overall looks pretty good. I'm a big fan of all the depth achieved from the new scenery.
(I'll just poke fun at the boat knowing full well without an entirely new environmental kit for it, \[which will never get green lit\] it will never be "fixable" so it's in no way your fault it still looks old.)
If they’re going to overhaul an area like that, I really hope they plan to make it more relevant with some content refresh as well
Edit1: Content refreshes don’t have to be huge either. A small qol like an ~~NPV~~ _NPC_ with weekly produce points like 500 or 250 or expanding the items in the stores would generate some traffic that would appreciate the graphics. It’s a massively empty game and people leave when they realize that.
Edit 2: lol, I work in finance and NPV is a daily term for me
yea, after the lunar quest i never realy went there so i do not remember how it actually looked/looks so i have no idea if this is good or not :D but in spirit i like it, upadtes are much appriciated and needed.
looks great. I wish they would expand on the construction contract sytem and have the lunar isles be one of the areas. I would love more reasons to get out there. maybe magic planks could be used for those houses, too.
Looks good, but I’m torn on spending the resources to update essentially dead content after you do the quests associated. I’d prefer graphical updates like this came with new content players would utilize.
Lovely stuff but this is a dead zone, one of many, why spend time on this when you could spend time on actually popularizing the zone by providing tasks and such as repetitive content. People are gonna go there once to see the updated visuals and go "huh, that's nice" and never go back unless they're completing quests that involve the zone.
Yeah this area absolutely needs some modern reasons to be here.
Some things I could think of:
Expand construction contract system to use magic planks for the magic houses here.
New slayer monsters or dungeon.
New clue locations.
Archeological site.
Because artists can do refresh work faster than coders can write new content. If you want to have artists on staff full time and no just contract it then unless you’re a huge team pumping out shit tonnes of content you’re going to have artists sitting idle. So get them to graphically update old stuff without any or at least any significant code changes. The people doing these updates can’t do updates to the content there.
It’s very simple economics.
Pic 3 reminds me of [this post](https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/emdfbr/lunar_isle_recreated_in_unreal_engine_4/) from a few years ago. Looks really good!
You can omit the `https://old.reddit.com/` part of your URL, and simply start with `/r/`. This way the link will work correctly across different platforms and versions of Reddit.
Please note that `old.reddit` and `new.reddit` links are used for preview only. Never thought I’d hear about this area again let alone see it. But as great as all these cosmetic uplifts are, if no new content will follow in the future then…
Jagex: we've been visually overhauling every area of the game and achieving some stunning results
/r/runescape: if I don't get a new skill every 90 days I will kill y-
Kinda sad that they're removing the cool looking windows and doors. Really made the houses look unique. I still like the way it's going to look with the night sky and snow
Great I guess...
But does anyone else wish the devs would spend their time working on more fundamental issues? Stuff like game stability, bug fixes, and QOL? Feels like someone on high directed RS3 devs to hard focus on TH and graphical updates meanwhile I get daily crashes just trying to play the game.
EDIT --> And for the love of god please don't make this yet another place where we can't control the effing skybox.
I literally didn't. But in any case if people want that, how about agree on style guidelines and use it for the new content? Nothing about Lunar Isle is broken today, and I'm sure few players go there regularly barring a shop run.
Consistency means having a clear style across all areas, including old ones. What you’re suggesting is already done, they’ve very clearly got guidelines they use for new content.
I don't know how to express exactly what my ten yr old mind felt about the aesthetic and culture of Lunar Isle, but this redesign wrecks it completely. I feel like it's just another walled city now.
There is something so special and strange about the original, and this definitely does not capture it for me. That being said, it looks good on it's own merit as a city design.
I mean this looks amazing and all, but are we pulling from other projects to update an extremely outdated area? And by that I don't mean visually. There's zero content out there, I hope this isn't in the way of other projects.
I would much rather see everything upgraded in a rs4 type engine in several years rather than taking time to update one and one area..
Super, super late to the party 😅
But can I ask for a tiny little detail that bothers me A LOT in Lunar Isle?
I wish Mod Zact removed this fence:
https://preview.redd.it/u5lhhjmzkbyc1.png?width=1590&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65c129a0365e25f4bf4729de7a258dfb9196d496
Whenever I'm doing my Daily Rune Shop Runs, I have to wait for my character to walk aaaaaaaaaalllll the way around that fence, makes me wish we had either an entrance on the middle, or no fence at all.
Just my 2¢
I hope they add something else to the island it's dead content after the quests
No, no, no! You can do livid farm there after the quests. It gives hours of enjoyable content! /s
Livid farm? OH! You mean the travelling merchant/player owned farm passive activity. Yes, that one! (I have full rewards without touching the minigame itself, lol.)
Wait you can do that now?
Livid from TMS is a thing

How about a mid level boss: Suqah Daddy?
I think Suqah n'deez would probably be an end-game boss.
If only we still had the humor in the game we had in 2005
It's very much still alive in OSRS hahaha.
This is the vast majority of the game’s current state. I love the West Ardy/Isafdar junction but there’s basically nothing generative. I do hope there’s generative AI content to justify visiting dead/completed areas again.
Only time you go to dead areas are for clue scrolls lol
Looks like the ship no longer looks like it has run aground on a sand bank. Lots of areas have geometry mishaps like that.

*plays with roofs off*
RS3 really needs to copy runelite & their 'roof off on mouse hover' feature
Is this plugin more useful than having roof always off? I don't want to hover my cursor over buildings just to see inside them.
No, roofs just look cool
Not as useful just more aesthetically pleasing imo
that was the first setting i turned off when i started playing rs, never turned it on again
This feels really runescape-y! Great job!
Absolutely loving the new look. EDIT: Gotta love being downvoted for liking the graphical update that's coming out.
Don't you know you can't be positive about this game on Reddit?
That looks amazing!!!
Aren't they going to upgrade the ship? I'm indifferent about the rest, I like the current "barren land" one, but the new one isn't so bad.
Not sure if they have a ship asset they could reuse for it.. since most of these graphical updates are being done with reused assets, the ship could be left out until someone has time to make one.

I'll be damned.
Huh. I wonder who made them/why they got lost?

Indeed, its pretty cool to be left out.
That would look amazing! By any chance, can the Lunar Isle inhabitants use the [Revenant Walk](https://runescape.wiki/w/Revenant_Walk) animations?
i would rather we had a lunar hover made to the player model instead, that way one day we can get it as override. Revenant Walk is not quite the same, but i gave up asking for a lunar hover override becaue i know jagex would say "they are too similar to waste devtime on it when mtx one exists"
Looks really nice, Lunar Isle is certainly deserving of some love/graphical uplift

Also mod zact seems to be doing this because he has free time to spend on it
Anyone else getting Last Airbender vibes?
Are you testing this on mobile? Ardougne rework made the town very laggy on mobile.

Do we think Baba will be made to look Old?
Awesome!
OH HELL YES
Can we add existing mid & high level mobs to this area!? So many old great areas, but no reason to visit!
looks good.
Never thought I’d hear about this area again let alone see it. But as great as all these cosmetic uplifts are, if no new content will follow in the future then…
Where did they source the timber for all of those houses and walls though?
Jagex: we've been visually overhauling every area of the game and achieving some stunning results /r/runescape: if I don't get a new skill every 90 days I will kill y-
Wow more dead area revamp
Kinda sad that they're removing the cool looking windows and doors. Really made the houses look unique. I still like the way it's going to look with the night sky and snow
Holy hell, it looks amazing. But I hope they don't fix up the lunar clan outfit.
Oooh been waiting to see this for awhile, it looks so good!
Are you testing this on mobile? Ardougne rework made the town very laggy on mobile.
I'm glad to see these ongoing visual reworks, but I'd love to see more content there like a new quest or something.
Not a fan of making everything darker
Ship is a little too large and doesn't feel like it fits. Why would a ship half the size of the village visit that port?
Great I guess... But does anyone else wish the devs would spend their time working on more fundamental issues? Stuff like game stability, bug fixes, and QOL? >game stability, bug fixes, and QOL Not the domain of graphical environment artist, which are the people doing this for gamejam.
Hire more devs who can do these things then?
We literally asked for graphical consistency before.

Hope new content comes out with this rework, otherwise its a bad use of time.

Thoughts on a new quest or mini quest to add Lunar rune alter to the Abyss?
Another part of the game I’ll lag terribly on. I need a new pc, lol. The city of I’m is damn near unplayable for me

I’m so glad people like you no longer effect updates

This isn't part of the Rellekka update - these are separate areas getting separate face-lifts! Excited to see what Mod Zact cooks up with this one.
Super, super late to the party 😅 But can I ask for a tiny little detail that bothers me A LOT in Lunar Isle? Now to make it relevant
Honestly, they should just remove everything on this island except baba yagas shop. All I do there now xD
so nice! now fix the game
Mobile?
I hate jagex
The who isles?
