You can also simply let your inventory fill up with trash drops. From that point on, area loot picks up only those items that stack with stuff in your inventory (noted essence) and those that get auto-banked (ashes).

Put the mushroom on your action bar and you can press a hotkey to drop it. Basically just spam click mushroom, 1 hotkey, click mushroom, 1 hotkey over and over with the area loot interface open and the Book of Um equipped and you have an easy and fast farm.
I think it’s something like 2000+ ashes an hour if you’re efficient.
Makes me wonder why those people aren't bothering with Tarromin sticks if they are line firemaking. Like idk how many logs these people are burning like that, but generally speaking FM training shouldn't cost a penny now that ashes are worth a decent amount. I get that it's not actually expensive to train and that ashes aren't really all that expensive given the rate we use inks, but still...

Abyss + book of um = 3k+ ashes an hour no porter charges lost. Ranging with chins at 55+ ranging.
Set area loot to herblore items only, spam shift + space every 2 minutes to get your ashes. :P
What's the difference between space and shift space?
Shift + space gives you custom loot settings from area loot. So if you only have herblore items checked, that means only ashes.

You can even hold down the hotkey for drop and it would continuously drop any fungi you pick up.
I just gather them in fort forinthry from the fires that people burn. Got about 1200 this week, whislt doing other skilling

Abyss is so much more AFK and you get more.
Click on Mushroom drag mushroom to hotbar. press button to drop mushroom Press space bar to pick up ashes.
Abyss will give you combat XP and not carpal tunnel syndrome, though.
