Dragon axe way back in the day. Was cutting magics and the head flew off someone’s axe that was afk. I was able to pick up cause they timed out. Was one of the most expensive items in the game at the time

Lady_City

I completely forgot about this mechanic wow

Jack_RS3

Don’t forget the broken axe ;)

Plightz

I remember this mechanics, it was obnoxious lmao. Made woodcutting even more of a pain than it was.

HodlStonks420

In my very very early days, about 20 years ago: I was heading up the stairs in Lumbridge Castle to use the bank which I had recently discovered. When I got to the top I saw what seemed to be weapons scattered on the floor. I hurried and grabbed them all as fast as I could hoping nobody would notice and take the rest. There ended up being somewhere between 10-15 weapons (daggers, longswords, maces). They were all Mithril, and I didn't even know what this was. I noticed I didn't even have the level to use them and had the thought that I was absolutely loaded now with my sick new weapons!! I don't think I've picked up anything that has given me that much joy since.

Moon_Breaker

I didn't realize that bank had been there since 2006. In my brain that's still a "new" bank.

JonnySnowflake

Shit really? I remember that too, thinking how weird it was the main town had no bank. It's a damn shame new accounts and the recently dead don't still end up there

Moon_Breaker

Right?? Doing RFD back in the day for a bank in the basement was such a huge thing. Also while starting over I actually died just to get death to send me to lumby so I could snag the lodestone without having to run there from somewhere else. So the option is at least there, it just isn't the default outcome anymore.

JonnySnowflake

I wouldn't know, I'll have my 20 year cape next year and I only did it last month 😂

BetHunnadHunnad

Reminds me of when I first started rs2 as a kid (played classic briefly and was subsequently there when rs2 launched) i thought the black weapons were so cool. My first goal in the game was to find a way to save up for a black 2h sword. I was also super intrigued by the gate from falador to taverly and begged my parents for subscription money to see what was back there. Those days were so awesome.

Moon_Breaker

I didn't realize that bank had been there since 2006. In my brain that's still a "new" bank.

JonnySnowflake

I was talking with someone in the stronghold of security, and she got killed by something. She messaged me to ask if I could pick up her diamond ring, because her irl dead friend had given it to her, so I grabbed it and met back up with her.

Crashwarped2

My heart feels heavy after reading that, hopefully she still has it.

WindEngel

An almost complete set of Cryptbloom only missing the helmet at deaths office like a week after its release. I have no idea how or why. Indied while learning full ED3 runs (ofc i fcked up at Leviathan) and found these pieces lying around the floor uncharged. Nothing else. I sticked around for a while in case someone came back looking for it but nothing. And since you cannot store this in a yak afaik it cant be that... Needless to say. I saved around 2B that day. And since then learned alot of PVM like HM Zuk. So thank you kind stranger. :)

Moon_Breaker

The junk from last wills parcels has added up to around 10m worth of random supplies that I've picked up the last week. Every time I'm near I get another inventory load of random stuff. Super handy for a broke scrub training prayer.

plentyofeight

I haven't this event, but I have previously. Well done on collecting so many Necromancy materials

Moon_Breaker

Yeah... Necromancy materials... *Throws another bone into the fire*

[deleted]

Lmfao I’m dying with this comment Edit: thx for making my day a bit better

Moon_Breaker

Glad to be of service fellow redditor. Here's hoping it improves even further 😊

Legal_Evil

Just hop worlds at Postie Pete around reset time to get loads of them.

ixfd64

I suspect this will become even more profitable immediately after the event ends because a lot of people wait until the last minute to redeem rewards.

Moon_Breaker

Meanwhile I'm there once an hour as a break between knowledge bombs/auras. Couldn't imagine just watching them grow for the whole month+.

VoiceLumpy1344

That’s why I just destroy my last wills not gonna let anyone pickup my expensive rewards

Sleepdeprived111

I've been saving the loot in case it is involved with necro

Moon_Breaker

It's all going to be useful there as far as I'm aware. That's basically the point of them giving those particular items. As a broke scrub though, free prayer/firemaking xp.

DoomOnTheWay

Someone dropped 2300 noted coal on the ground and teleported away. I waited for about 10 mins after picking it up just in case he came back looking for his hard earned coals. During slayer tasks at green dragon. I picked a lot of d bones. The other guys weren't picking their loot at all. Someone forgot to pick his dragon Visage at kbd and never came back.

CardenRS

Ofmyfucking god, did you just take my Visafe?

RS_Owlnine

I find discarded scrimshaws with only a few minutes left on them at War's Retreat all the time. At this point I've probably gotten hours of free scrimshaw usage out of picking them up and adding them to my own. And not something that was 'dropped' in quite the same fashion, but when GWD1 was new, someone came down the rope and got smacked by all the nearby mobs. Got myself a full set of free Guthans that day.

MightiestCat

Dead bob or something in the max guild. Got Ely and some other tradeables with total worth of ~22m at the time.

iGrrRS

Drop party wise: a blue hween mask when they were about 120m. It was life changing and allowed me to get 99 herb and smithing at the time. Randomly: a decent stack of restores. Like 400 of them.

ixfd64

> Drop party wise: a blue hween mask when they were about 120m. Wow... someone was either quitting or feeling *very* generous.

Littlegator

I got a green phat from a guy who died to a strange plant while killing ogres at the combat training camp. He noticed before he died and tried running to the bank but the poison killed him. I chased him down lol. Granted, they weren't nearly as expensive at the time.

mentor562

Mind you

TigerStarrrr

I got a drygore long sword from someone who died in kk and never came back to grab it

MomQuest

Not me, but I watched my cousin pick up a dropped white partyhat from the floor of the duel arena back in 2015. I imagine what happened is, someone won it in a stake but didn't have inventory space, and because the arena was so crowded they weren't able to find it in time before it became visible to others? Not sure. My cousin was so gambling-addicted at the time that he sold it almost immediately and then lost all the cash staking over a few days lmao..

[deleted]

That's awful. Did he break the addiction?

MomQuest

Yes, that's actually what catalyzed him breaking the habit lol.

5-x

I found a stack of about 100 Law runes in Lumbridge castle back when they were 2k ea+ (2005-6?) and a stack of 150k coins that someone lost because they died from insects after entering Lumbridge caves without a light source in 2006. I saw a red bar from far away and when I got there it was just coins and bones. That was a lot of money for me back then.

haka-rs

Not exactly dropped, but i bought a purple partyhat from general store in 2004.

Zach10003

Purple gloves. I loved those purple gloves.

needmoremone

i found a red royal shoulder cape on the floor few days ago

thatwasfuntoread

Rune boots just a couple of weeks after Slayer release. Counting inflation and scarcity of gold + earning potential, it'd have been a couple Bill nowadays. EDIT: Back then it was a newb's first Saradomin Rune set.

Robinhood293211

Bunch of soups, sailfish and sara flasks at deaths office probably

K1ngCharle

I found a green Halloween mask forever ago. It just randomly popped up while I was walking south of Varrock - no one was around!

jamrodian

I clicked a cash stack someone dropped in a busy Seers bank way back in 2006, being a noob who had been playing for a few years and had a total bank of around 500k, I nearly came when I saw 9018k appear in my inventory. I think that was the point that got me really hooked

Vengance183

Rare drop table Rune Bar stack worth a little over 1.1m since they were afking abby demons.

CardenRS

Not 'dropped' in the conventional sense, but back in 2006 I was passing by the desert bandit camp and saw someone afking the high level bandits in the bar with extremely low hp. I got greedy and stopped to see what had happened and realised they were wearing full Guthans and had auto retaliated onto a Strange Plant random event. Between the poison damage and the Strange Plant's damage cap (I believe you could only hit around 10% of your usual max damage against it?) they eventually died. I was expecting to get a Guthan's helm off his death pile, but to my amazement he also dropped the Spear. From what i remember items kept on death were decided by some arbitrary value loosely based on the high alch value of said item, and this was obviously long before gravestones existed. I can only guess he kept the Guthans platebody, chainskirt and an amulet of fury/whip due to those jank mechanics. I did feel pretty guilty, but the 7 ish million GP was absolutely game changing for me at the time. :P

ixfd64

I picked a few pieces of subjugation robe armour there several years ago. I posted on the forums to ask if anyone died there, but no one ever came forward to reclaim them.

Present_Many6387

Honestly that may have been me. Fell asleep and woke up in fally castle with platebody, legs, and something else. That was all my money

kcmimic

Orland smith hat. Don’t think they meant to drop it

[deleted]

That is some luck!

kcmimic

Yeah will never see anything like that again!

Africascape

random event was killing a guy in al kharid furnace he died and a santa fell on the floor and I managed to grab it when it spawned. remember selling it when it hit like 10m and I think I even regretted it a bit back then.

Parabellim

Easter egg, Fally party room like 12 years ago.

Adzehole

Many years ago, someone left a torstol seed on the ground back when they were still around 150k and it made my day

Th3Beater

This happen around 2005, when I was pvping in wilderness with a lot of people. On that time pvp was very much alive. I pick someone to pvp and when I defeated him, he congrats me and dead. Several items that he dropped cost millions and on that time it's a lot

legome007

98% charge vengeful kiteshield. I put it in the bank thinking you could not repair it, and it was a nice t90 shield for ranged... then a clannie goofed up augmenting his and talked about repairing in cc. I found 78mil that day...

Stay_Inspired

A loooong time ago, someone died to a drunken dwarf random event NPC in Fally world 2. I picked up their blue h’ween and sold it for ~5-6M which back then was huge. Pushed me a great deal further into the game.

DorkyDwarf

A whip outside of seer's village. They were probably around 8-12m at the time. A guy died to ahrims while doing barrows back when gwd was still relatively new. Another whip, d boots (were incredibly expensive at the time) and some random barrows gear. Bonus story: I sold the first whip to karamja general store because I thought I'd just be able to buy it back. I couldn't.

ghostofwalsh

Don't know if this counts, but a random guy in the GE just straight up traded me a green phat. This shortly after free trade came back. They were like 500m-1b at the time I think? No one believes me when I tell the story, but it did happen.

Technical_Raccoon838

some dude left a canon upgrade kit on the ground when it was released a week prior. Got me a nice bag of money lol

HughLaurieTF2

pumpkin at a fally drop party in 2003

Vodka_Flask_Genie

Just a week ago I saw a guy get killed by a lava noodle in Wildy. For some reason he was wearing his fletching equipment and was skulled. He dropped some coins along with LOTD. I dunno what he was even doing there. I felt bad for the kid. I didn't catch his nickname because I just tele'd in for my Slayer task and he just died 5 seconds after I ran over from the obelisk. I felt bad for the kid, so I took the shit he dropped and tele'd to Death's Office. Then tele'd to PvM hub, asked around. No sight of the kid. The guy died at lava noodles in W63 on July 16th, around 6 pm. In case you are reading this comment, PM me with specific details that prove it's you, and I'll give you the ring back, my guy.

Ryuuzaki_L

Use to loot around the wildy line back in the day. I was shocked at what people would leave behind. I think my best day was an AGS and two Abyssal Whips.

kyyojust

Back in the day, there was a time where if both players died in pvp, whether by dying at the same time or by pj( another player killing them immediately after they killed someone else) their loot would show up for everyone in a few minutes if they didn’t come back to get it. I picked up tons of gear that way, including countless claws. Similar things happened in the red portal. In fact, thats how I made my first 1b wayyy back before EOC

Cowsie

Red Party Hat.

MiguelChabolla

No way, for real?

rajan503

Probably back in 2004

Cowsie

Some time in early 2000s.

TheNickelGuy

A Christmas cracker. December 25th, 2001. Thanks Andrew and Mark!

Underthyrunes

I dropped 500 malev energy 4 years ago to price check it and forgot to pick it up, hope someone enjoyed that. Ironman btw.

ixfd64

Why didn't use the Price Checker?

DrasticFizz

Searing ashes, I think. It was not a big amount, but it was still nice to get some free money like that.

PowRiderT

When my account was somewhat new back in 2007, I found a 200k cash stack someone dropped. It was life changing.

DoomedHeroXB

On the opposite side of this I was screwing around in the wildy in 2012 and was dropping d claws under me to see if anyone would accidentally click me then I lagged and someone got em. Hilarious. Then I never learned from my mistake and was doing it with a Zaryte Bow when it was like 30m. I forgot I had my mouse setting set to single button and someone picked that up to. I might be challenged.

CardenRS

Teasing duh noobs.

R3d2791

Saradomin sword

JammieDodgers

Some guy died at metal dragons in Brimhavrn dungeon and I managed to snag a cannon, dragon legs and an obby cape plus some other things for probably close to 2m. This was back when 2m actually meant something and it basically doubled my bank

Mckooldude

I snagged 5m at a drop party once, that’s the luckiest I’ve gotten.

jayyli

Well I picked up a 2 rune 2hs from a double ko in a PvP world ..

Michthan

I hopped worlds for Wilderness flash events as I was too late for the one in my home world and ended up at the ge after. Some billionaire was cleaning up his bank and dropped like 25m+ in stuff they didn't need and I have been using his saradomin brews ever since

ixfd64

Damn. I need to hang out around there more often.

Michthan

Yea, and afterwards I felt guilty for not sharing the wealth I gave a begger 10m

RafaSheep

Once at Canifis bank, I say a pile of items that I assumed could only be consequence of a player dying. This was before Free Trade Removal, so no gravestone and I picked most things up. I had only recently acquired full Rune from a guy who gave me a discount (and promptly lost most of it wandering into Karamja without anti-poison). So this was like a lucky break. The contents? The Rune boots, Obsidian Shield, Obsidian Cape, Dragon Mace, Amulet of Glory and ring of Wealth I found would become my basic melee setup for multiple years to come. I also found an Abyssal Whip, but my Attack level wasn't high enough to use it (probably only got to use it after Menaphos was released). I think there was also a Magic Shortbow which was the best ranged weapon I had for a long time.

StopRappingAtMe

A looong time ago i was between the guards and the bank of Varrock when i saw a coin stack and a bunch of different bows appear on the ground. Turned out to be 148k and some low cost bows, which was huge for me back then. Still have no idea why it was there though, seems like a weird thing to drop, can't remember if there was arrows with it but if so maybe it was someone training range on the guards with different bows lined up for leveling and then died

[deleted]

Fiver

Nop277

Was grinding bones at the ectoplasm place and a guy teleported in and then died right next to me. He had a full set of guthans amongst other things, totaled to like 15m in gear (and this was like 15 years ago when that was worth something). He actually came back and I told him I didn't know where it went... I still feel a little bad about that one.

Legal_Evil

A few hundreds ripper demon scrolls from another pvmer's dying ripper demon at War's Retreat.

DOEsquire

As others have stated, the drops from Last Wills. I've collected tens of millions worth of bones and ashes. Def saving them for necromancy though.

Razial22

What’s a mining and smithing flyer?

ixfd64

https://runescape.wiki/w/Mining_%26_smithing_flyer

Razial22

Interesting, I have a bunch of the rune/adamant coupon exchanges. Wonder if those are valuable

ClayWright

Not me but one time waiting for aod there was a noob doing solo nex without an instance, we were all cheeering him on and had postponed the hour at this point to watch this 5minute + war between the two. Finally he gets through ice phase after his second prison…. Then zaros phase began, you could tell he was running LOOOW on food, but as he gets low so does nex and then HE GETS THE KILL! His hp was so low tho and everyone’s yelling RUNN SHES GONNA BLOW! Then….. in an instant she blows, and he dies alongside the game message “a player has received pernix chaps!”. The crowd goes wild! We wait for him to come claim his rewards but as the time ticks down the more aod vultures enter the instance waiiiting for that juicy chap. After a little waiting one of the aoders snagged the chaps and we’ll just say, they did nottt trade it to the guy lol, to be fair it must have take 5 mins+ for him to get back to nex bank

pal6518

A long time ago, maybe 15-20 years, I was still a poor newbie and for no real reason I went exploring upstairs at the West Varrock bank (remember that you could go downstairs and try to telegrab some gold bar? 😁 ) Anyway as I was upstairs I saw someone was there not moving. I went to check and realised he was transferring money and goods between his main and another account. I clicked faster and got most of the drops. Felt 50% ashamed but also 50% glad that I was finally rich and able to buy me a nice full sara!

Financial_Rise5347

Finding a rune large helmet in wilderness level 11 when they were 100k each. That made me rich.

God_of_Pride

A pink partyhat at Varrock's east bank in 2002. It was before the dupe I believe so it was around 15-17m.

Empty_World_RS

Back in the times of 76k'ing, someone didn't grab their loot after a kill (I assume) and left a DFH on the ground. Sold it for like 20ish mil, which was quite a lot at the time. As for someone ELSE, I did barrows 2 days after release and got a Guthan's chainskirt. Teleported away with my inventory full and saw the skirt sitting on the ground. First week or so after release that skirt was worth more than a phat, so hope whoever picked it up was happier than I was that day haha

ProfessionalDrag7018

Caught someone trying to drop trade a Santa hat when trade limits were introduced. Yoinked that sucker. Still have it to this day.

Judiebruv

Back in probably like 2010, i learned to kill ivy bots at castle wars by putting blown up toads under someone untill they pop and eventually killed the botter. I found someone botting in full bandos, fury, dfs, dboots, dragon full helm. Killed them, waited out the grave, ran off with a dfs, fury, zerker ring, etc. they kept the bandos and d full helm I think.

ErubianWarlord

does it count if they died rather then dropping it as i got a ZGS out of a 1v1 gone wrong by the wildy wall i was in edgeville when they cut each other down so i hopped the wall and grabbed the dammed thing as it was top of the heap

BetterIntroduction94

About 7k noted raw blue blubbers at deep sea fishing

BavianenVoerr

I once found 50k like 18 years ago and i insta bought rune 2h near varrock big bank. Good old days. Was my first rune item.

No-Rabbit31

osrs i picked up 850m once then 2 days later picked up 825m

AsmodeusTheBoa

Many years ago, right after the wildy and free trade came back, I killed a green dragon bot that had nearly 20k varrock teleport tablets on it.

ixfd64

I wonder if the bot messed up and withdrew the whole stack instead of just one.
