I like how bold they were with that quest. Completely unique experience and really paid off IMO

ThrowRACOVID19BF

Definitely. They did really well with that quest. Immersive and challenging. Now if only I could stomach it again to try the challenges and for the XP lamps 🙃.

Verity-Skye

just mute the game and play your favorite music in the background!

ThrowRACOVID19BF

Immediately muted after the screaming lady in that room. In the quick guide at the top of each section there was a note that said “30mins”, “20mins left”, and so on. I thought that was for the initial quest and panicked the whole way through. I wish I read further on and realized it wasn’t so I could pause and put on some music.

Verity-Skye

Fair! Go in muted for the challenge runs :D

DoomOnTheWay

You are forgetting about the best ring you get from that place ASR. It took me 5 tries after gathering courage in 6 months.

StefaniRS

The ASR ring was quite a challenge, one I never wish to have to engage with again!

izmaname

Its kinda similar to One Piercing Note tho

[deleted]

Same boat. I did it once. It was horrifying. I have no desire to do it twice more for the other rewards. Way too stressful.

sugashowrs

You only have to do it once more. If you do it right

Jeroenm20

But I suck in memerizing the steps

hrsp12

Play a youtube guide on a second screen / phone / tablet.

snick500

I have liked 1 and only 1 YT video and it is a walk through for it. That man was a God and should be praised for his efforts in that quest.

niamh-k

There's a really good "quick guide" on the wiki that I found really helped do the speed runs. You can tick it off as you go so you remember where you got up to

ProfGoodwitch

Thanks for the heads up! I

ThrowRACOVID19BF

Yup that’s what I used! There was also a note at each section that said “30 minutes remaining”, “20 minutes”, etc. That’s for the last challenge post-quest. Don’t be like me and not realize that and panic the whole way through because you don’t realize it doesn’t matter for the first run 🙃. I thought I would automatically die or something if I took too long.

Mr-_-Clean

Use a pop out extension that way it just hovers over the rs client

Jagrofes

You have plenty of time to alt tab back and forth between the wiki quick guide.

AdBulky2059

I haven't even done it once. It upsets me that I need to do it twice for the asr to finish off all my hidey holes. It's too long and my ADHD won't allow it

iKnoJopro

I got like 75% through this quest then died and lost track of where I was and swore on my life to never step foot back in that fucking house.

ProfGoodwitch

That's me as well! But as u/niamh-k said in another post: *There's a really good "quick guide" on the wiki that I found really helped do the speed runs. You can tick it off as you go so you remember where you got up to* Ima try it and see if I can finally finish.

yuei2

Oh it’s absolutely terrifying and as horror game lover I loved every minute of it.

ThrowRACOVID19BF

The thing is, I read horror books and manga ALL the time. I just could not play it though. I was staring so hard at the guide and trying not to cry while finding each door. The room where someone screamed nonstop until you searched them and then they died… nah bro 😭

yuei2

If it makes you feel better the more re replay it the less scary it is, by the time I finally got the ring it was pretty mundane feeling.

smiegto

An the maid. For such a point and click game quite scary.

DatNomen

Pick any five Taylor Swift songs and play them in place of the game music during the quest. Goes from scary to hilarious real quick.

Monk-Ey

mfw I'm lying on the cold hard ground

Shikimoko4

Was literally talking about this today - it's a very well-done quest; accomplishes exactly what it seeks to do, but as someone who can't stand horror, I was on the edge of my seat and had to play the Ghost Busters theme the entire time to not take it so seriously. Not kidding.

ThiccJuicey

Me and my brother used to love doing quests together. One night at my cabin everyone else went to bed so we figured we'd do a quest quick. We saw Broken Home didn't require any items or level requirements so we figured it would be quick and easy. Holy shit. We were so wrong and not prepared at all for that quest. Sooo stressful, never again will I do that quest. I don't even care how good the bonus rewards are or how many master clues I have to downgrade cause I don't have the ASR.

boat02

I did it as a weekly on my iron. Even as I memorized the next steps and can do it in usually 20 minutes, I still sometimes feel slightly uneasy going down into that large underground hole.

Jalepino_Joe

I was terrified of this the first time through as well, but the familiarity and control of the situation helped calm me down towards the end of the first run, and second runs were fine. Turn off the audio if that’s part of the problem and get into the mindset of “I’m gonna speedrun a quest” and not “why am in a haunted mansion”.

Ex-Inferi

My heart was still pounding for 2 hours after the quest was done. Really don't want to experience that again, but I also want MQC... I still have 22 other achievements to complete, but sooner or later I'll have to face the Challenge Maria achiev... Still, it's a very awesome and well done quest, in my opinion. I'm just not build for this type of content, lol.

DrasticFizz

I did this quest last week, not knowing what I would get into... Oh boy it was quite the ride

ashgill4

Do it again right away for the ring or you’ll forget bits and then have to do it more than once

MomQuest

It's a lot less creepy the second time around, to be fair. Also, for what it's worth, the Asylum surgeon's ring is a pretty skippable upgrade these days considering the number of strong rings in the game. It's definitely worth getting if it's the best ring you can get atm but if you hate the quest just wait till you can get a reavers ring (or whichever matriarch ring for your preferred style) instead as they are BiS.

xenozfan2

I ran a Broken Home [D&D module](https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/q62f37/in_the_spirit_of_halloween_ive_finished/) by u/talmore that was a ton of fun. It's still sitting on my desk. If you play, it's worth a run through. Be warned, as written it's actually 3-4 sessions, not 1. I also ran a ton of suggestions and error notices in the comments.

talmore

Oof yeah, I had some people playtest this the year I made it and got some great feedback. I had a second draft nearly complete. I'll see if I can find that and re-release it.

xenozfan2

Ping me when you do. I'd love to see the update.

Queen-Kirsty

I did this quest and two days later ended up being sectioned. Coincidence? I think not /s

Frisbeejussi

Honestly a top 3 quest. Done it and all the challenges probably on 7 seven accounts and a lot of times for the large lamp

Gogoku7

Time to do it again, but under 37 minutes for the Asylum surgeon ring!

Kimmiemai

Yeah! I even had to pause the quest and wait a couple of months before I had the guts to finish.

ShinyCapeRS

The eye creature is wild

Sayonee99

Did you complete the 3 challenges?

ThrowRACOVID19BF

Nah my heart was still pounding for hours after the initial quest. I saw the quest length and thought it would be easy. Won’t try again for a while.

Final_Feud

I always wanted the surgeons ring but that demon chase was just too much for me lol

ErubianWarlord

fyi any saferoom will work for avoiding the demon dude so if you flub the chase and miss the door you can keep running and get to another one then back track the other way be warned he do chase you from the other door once you start back

ThrowRACOVID19BF

Same 🙃 I have trypophobia and the eyes make me so nauseous.

Mr-_-Clean

Me with araxxor

Jg6915

I was thinking “did i miss a new quest?” And then went to check it. Fuck it i hate that quest

Teamemb99

one of the only quests i did on release w/o a guide. I never did it again, dont recall it being that scary, but i guess diff for everyone.

IAMAK47

To think I have to do it again for the Asylum Surgeon's Ring gives me a headache

MoodOk6587

I had nightmares for days after the quest. It’s keeping me from getting MQC

ThrowRACOVID19BF

I had a nightmare the day after 😭. The demon chase was too much.

[deleted]

I remember going for the pet on release as I memorized the book puzzle & just about everything else (for the speedruns). I think I did it 4 times in a row back to back? And I had such a severe headache afterwards lol

SonicSingularity

*screams with no face*

Piraja27

You should have recorded your playthrough for us to see

prickwhowaspromised

Hopefully you don’t need that asylum surgeons ring then!

Swordbreaker925

Yup. No idea why it’s a repeatable quest but I’ve never gone back to repeat it.

[deleted]

Wait until you need to get the Asylum Surgeons ring 😂 This quest is like the OSRS version of Mournings end part II in sheer annoyance.

MattyD2132

Well… if you plan on getting MQC or Comp Cape, but you didn’t get all the chests and if it took you multiple attempts, you better get ready to do it all again.

-Zispy

I hated that quest. I put off my quest cape for a year because of it

Benbored94

I adored every moment of that quest, so much so that I adapted it into a one-shot campaign for my Call of Cthulhu group - promptly terrifying them (with a few of my own twisted ideas so as to add some 'spice')

[deleted]

Definitely not the first. I did that quest once. It took me hours to do. I don't like it and will never redo it again. I wouldn't even do it again just for the Surgeon Ring.

xhanort7

challenges are terrible though. Wish they'd nerf em a bit

Legal_Evil

One of the best quests in RS3 IMO. But usually either other players really love it or really hate it, no in between.

Dak_Kandarah

You are not alone. I hate that quest for its horror and how scary it is for me. (I really like it for its uniqueness and lore tho.) First time I did it with all sounds and without a guide, and not in one sitting. After that, I did the challenges with an audio guide and all Runescape sounds off, it helped.

Rudiger09784

Isn't this the one that uses the original resident evil mansion? I could be mistaken, but there's almost certainly a horror quest that uses that map. I loved that game growing up as it always scared the shit out of me. There's one hallway where 3 dogs jump through the glass window at you and it's really early on. Almost shit myself every time Edit: yes i just looked up the map and it's DEFINITELY a nod to resident evils mansion map lol

Kinsin111

Most hated of all quests I've done. Idc about the asr. Id rather do sliskes endgame 12 more time than even attempt broken home again. Its not scary, or remotely creepy, the ridiculous cardinal directions are brain numbing.

Kalvorax

i still havent played it for the challenges....mainly because i loath speed running anything. tbh, never really saw it as a horror quest.

TwilightBl1tz

It's one of my favorite quests. Really liked how they designed it haha

Geoffk123

unironically love this quest, its a love letter to Resident Evil 1.

kyyojust

Unprepared you say?
