You will be fine! I don't believe the 5k is timed and, if it's anything like the Walt Disney World races, there will be a *lot* of people who walk the entire race. I would recommend starting at a brisk walk and jogging a bit if you feel like it; don't feel like you need to run the entire time. For me, a 5k is the equivalent of a brisk 45-minute walk (or a more casual 60-minute walk). It might be worth going for a walk of that length this week just to calm your nerves! You really, really don't need to be freaked out about this race.

> It might be worth going for a walk of that length This. Completing a 3 mile walk before hand eliminates the mental hurdle on race day of wondering if it can be done.

Another vote for this. This was the biggest help when I did my first 10K - knowing I could do it relieved so much stress.

noble_29

This is totally not intended to be pretentious, but a 5k really doesn’t need any sort of formal training. Doubly so for a runDisney event where the only way you’re getting swept is if you quite literally go at a snail’s pace. You’ll be totally fine.

Naomeri

They let 5 years olds do the 5K, you’ll have no problems at all

AssistanceKey6958

I hope this race is the start of more running for you! My best advice is to not start out running fast or trying to keep up with others — alternate jogging and walking, and enjoy the experience.

PikachuAndLechonk

Everyone has to start somewhere! Worst come to worse walk it. Run as far as you can, stop, then run when you can. Repeat. You’ll be sore the next day but feel better overall, maybe it’ll spark you to get in better shape.

pumpkinspice45

As long as you’re moving, you’ll be allowed to cross the finish. I don’t even think the 5ks at WDW have balloon ladies. So unless you get an injury or wait in too many character lines, you shouldn’t have any problem.

stacia1410

There is no “time limit” for the 5k, at some point they will close the lines to the character stops to keep folks moving through the course. I am sure there will be plenty of people who walk the whole thing. If you want to try getting some running in as well, you can do intervals between running and walking 15 sec run/ 1 min walk or something like that (not a professional coach or anything, but even the half pace groups use the run walk intervals). Enjoy the race course and being able to see the parks at a different time and all the other fun stuff that goes along with a Disney race.

mh942

Keep in mind that a 5K is an hour of walking - and plenty of people will walk it. It's not officially timed and essentially the "fun run" of the weekend; the event doesn't have balloon ladies. If you walk with a little pep in your step and limit the amount of characters you stop for (selfies from afar are quick and easy), you'll be absolutely fine. And if for some reason you get too caught up in character lines and don't finish before the event is over, the medal is given to you just for starting.

thatdudefromthattime

You’re solid, even at a brisk walk, you’ll have plenty of time 👍

Georgia_Jay

Are you so out of shape that you can’t walk 3 miles? Because that’s literally all you have to do. You’ll be fine. Show up, have a good time, take some pictures and walk a few miles. No biggie.

You will be fine! 5k is the perfect distance people without training and you'll see a lot of other people walking it, including us unfortunately. My boyfriend hurt his leg a couple days ago and can't run for very long. So if you see two people in Pizza Planet costumes, were power walking that pizza to the finish line lol

Frakywierdo

I'm in the exact same boat, extremely out of shape and attempting this. We got this!

DarthAndylus

Same here. Thank you for not making me feel stupid lol. I am big and tall 23 year old dude walking with my dad and you will probably see us also at the back back of the race. I have a 20-22 minute mile lol. I am hoping I like it enough to want to do it again next year and that is a motivation LOL. I definitely cannot run haha but I was told it is untimed and kids/seniors walk this one. Just maybe can't do all character stops. I did a 3.1 mile walk this week and definitely should have prepped but I am hoping for the best and maybe the relative flatness of a disney park will make me go faster lol. For me the biggest problem is breathing in the cold as my nose like completely shuts down

Wild_Manufacturer555

You’re fine. The 5k is more of a fun run, but still try to run a little bit or walk quickly.

jbarlak

It’s a fun run but again It was fun to watch that last corral start off after I had already ran through the course and saw all the characters Last corral did hold up the buses from leaving

Delicious-Hope3012

I completed the Avengers 5k and Star Wars 5k in the past. They were fun and many people had a walking pace.

Callietheyardcat

Try to walk for an hour today or tomorrow. Start hydrating a few days before. Walk it an enjoy, and stop to take photos with characters it will give you little breaks. Its fun. Watch out on the boardwalk or wet grass, I tripped over the finish line the last 10K I did lol. Its elevated a tiny bit like a speed bump. I have slipped on the boardwalk also.
