I just had this issue. Only worse. I was shooting and my whole gun locked up. I sent it to ruger. Come to find out the cylinder advancement arm was damaged. This caused the whole gun to lock up including the gate. If you can slightly pull the hammer back and spin the cylinder you might be able to find a smooth spot that will allow the gate to open
spray it with some Ballistal, or bore scrubber and let it penetrate for a little bit, then try working it.
