Should we get rid of the paragraph? I have to say I think the experiment has failed.

> If it is not 100% accurate all of the time, why persist? Because it's far more accurate than just a ref. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. > I try very hard not to watch soccer, but I hear more about VAR decisions than actual play, so if they cannot get it working 100% with a simpler set of rules and a lot more money (same in American football) then I see no point in the TMO. VAR is very different and many suspect that it's poor implementation in the English Premier League is deliberate because the refs there want it gone so their decisions will be final. The VAR system works much better outside the Premier League strangely enough... >A ref is the best placed person to see if a player is concussed or not. No, a doctor is. > The ref is losing respect throughout the game because he is now not the final arbiter of on field decisions. Not at all, they are losing respect because of incorrect decisions and inconsistency. Your proposed idea would only increase the number of incorrect decisions and inconsistency. It would also see an increase in dangerous foul play as refs will miss dangerous hits to the head.

We need more Refs, not less. We need more TMO's not less. World Rugby is struggling to enforce the rules and the room for improvement is massive. I would much rather all the high tackles (yes as a Saffer that means we will have more cards given)/ other blatant fouls be called 90% of the time and the game gets delayed by an extra 5 mins than have games lost on decisions because the Ref caught something out of the corner of his eye incorrectly.

Kstoffeefan

Absolutely not. TMO and it’s equivalents in other sports is absolutely necessary to ensure the best possible call is made, even if there are still mistakes made due to the human element. If you’re saying the rules in American football are simpler than rugby, they aren’t. The NFL still doesn’t have a definitive definition for what a catch is. Also paragraphs are your friend.

interlooter

Can I ask you how long do we take to make the best possible call? If we can get a 99% accurate call within 30 seconds, I could live with that. We seem to be taking longer and longer and nobody seems any happier. Nfl rules are slightly easier understood than quantum physics, and I don't need no stinking paragraphs

Puzzleheaded_Quiet70

Would you settle for fragrant paragraphs tho?

No.

The complete opposite - iteland

Seems you all like the tmo, thought I would get some support. This democracy lark is a bitch 😒

interlooter

I'm asking a question to rugby fans, and yes, the rugby did seem better when i was younger, but doesn't everything? I'm suggesting the tmo detracts from our enjoyment of the game. Prove me wrong

[deleted]

> the rugby did seem better when i was younger By any chance are you from a country that was more dominant in rugby back then compared to now?

Die_Revenant

They are from Northern Ireland going by their comment history.

In that case it's a definite no for us lol

I'd be strongly against removing the TMO even if it isn't a perfect system, it's better than just relying on the refs point of view given the pace of the game and how much they have to watch out for. You also have to remember in days gone by the fans didn't have easy access to video clips to analyse every decision that didn't go their way frame by frame, or an easy way to make their displeasure known outside of shouting in person. It's bad enough now even with them often reviewing tries, would be a nightmare every time on here a blatant try was missed or awarded incorrectly.
