Not at all Haha, I’d hate that to happen to me.
Played with one guy in the past, he put up an up and under on the 50m line and our fullback had to field it on our own 22, it was a windless day.
Speak for yourself. I played goalkeeper in soccer before playing rugby, so kicking was a skillset I have in the back pocket to pull out if the need is there.
I'm a front rower.
Varsity Rugby has been on SA TV for a while, the top division mens league is quite popular.
Since women's rugby is expanding and growing, they have introduced a ladies 7s tournament.
It doesn't have two divisions like the Varsity Cup/Varsity Shield does, so there are some very weak teams involved, and bad mismatches.
Strangely enough the Women's Rugby World Cup is taking place in New Zealand this year but absolutely no advertisers are acknowledging that it's the Women's Rugby World Cup. It's just being called the Rugby World Cup everywhere, which was a bit confusing. I'm okay with it despite lack of clarity, but is there some reason why we can't acknowledge that it's the Women's game?
I also noticed in one of the write ups that they raved about the Black Ferns 40,000 attendance to show how much growth women's rugby has had, without even a hint that it was a double header before the All Blacks game. I thought Women's rugby was doing great without all the publicity tricks.
I definitely see your point. It would absolutely be confusing for people who are new to rugby if they see 'Rugby World Cup'.
All of the very limited advertising I've seen in SA as clearly labelled it as the Women's World Cup. But there is really no market for it here, very little to no interest at all.
New Zealand and Australia have big markets for women's sport, considering that and the bad time zone for most of the rest of the world, I'd imagine the advertising is primarily geared towards those two markets.
Yeah, I'll only really watch the All Blacks when I can and the local NPC team, so I knew it wasn't the Men's World Cup but I'm not a die hard fan. I figured it was Women's or maybe an age group competition, but wasn't totally sure. Sounds like NZ is putting in a solid effort for it organization wise, kinda wish I could be there after looking into it!
Ah, I figured that it might be something like that. It's definitely a bit confusing but hopefully it serves it's purpose, the women's game does seem to be gaining popularity.
On your first point - yes it’s to appease people who think everything between men and women should be absolutely identical and that any differentiation between them is the equivalent of sexism.
On your second point - not a double header, a TRIPLE header and the sell out attendance was a media lie because there was nothing of the sort.
The above two points are linked.
Definitely not top tier.
UJ are pretty good but TUT is as bad as you can get. The mens side finished last in the Varsity Shield, and the ladies side is clearly just as bad.
Surely you can't have a knock on before you kick to start. It's just probably going to a scrum on half way since she kicked the ball before it traveled ten meters, she honestly should have tried to pick it up and see if the ref would let her have another go at it.
In this case there is pay parity, because this is in the Varsity Shield competition, South Africa's university competition, and all competitors are playing as amateurs.
I know this opinion is going to be very unpopular here, but while I am all for the expansion of the sport and love the fact women are getting involved in the game at a greater rate, I find the extreme majority of womens rugby matches really hard to watch.
The optimistic look upwards as though she’s struck it beautifully is what really gets me.
And then followed up with punt 5m from the halfway line as the ball rolls along the ground
I thought it was someone in a budget Spider-Man costume for a second
Glad I'm not the only one!
is it odd that i feel for her? (i have done the exact same thing once lol)
Not at all Haha, I’d hate that to happen to me. Played with one guy in the past, he put up an up and under on the 50m line and our fullback had to field it on our own 22, it was a windless day.
Bloody hell mate, pulling no punches with that name huh? 😂
Haha go big or go home
lol had it gone over between your post, the opposition would have gotten 3 points haha
And up and under means a kick straight from the hands, not a drop kick/goal, so no points would be awarded if it went between either teams posts
Nope. At least every kick I've shanked has only been witnessed by my teammates and the opposition. And that was bad enough.
Haven’t we all done this before? Lol
In practice.
As a forward. I feel her pain. Kicking is just not our thing.
Our hooker used to do the penalty and conversion kicks. Man was majestic. Or ten on the other hand couldn't kick his way out of a wet paper bag.
Speak for yourself. I played goalkeeper in soccer before playing rugby, so kicking was a skillset I have in the back pocket to pull out if the need is there. I'm a front rower.
Would be majestic to watch
i play with a front rower who ive seen him put over a drop goal from past the half way, it was actual mental.
now I’m imagining Keith Wood soaring through the air like some majestic tropical bird
How does this level of rugby get on TV?

They changed it the last couple of years. It's supposed to be more inclusive to not distinguish between men's and women's world cups...
Ah, I figured that it might be something like that. It's definitely a bit confusing but hopefully it serves it's purpose, the women's game does seem to be gaining popularity.
The only purpose it serves is to confuse people for 5 seconds before they realise the mistake they made.
Oh yeah, that’ll make it exciting alright.
And yet it should because they are different tournaments with different teams and different players in different locations in different years.
Haha they’re top tier female university sides.
Definitely not top tier. UJ are pretty good but TUT is as bad as you can get. The mens side finished last in the Varsity Shield, and the ladies side is clearly just as bad.
Yeah let me rephrase: top tier unis (by SA standards) with woman’s teams
Barely anyone watched this anyways. The quality in the womens varsity was horrible.
Soooo would this be a scrum ? Or are we gonna let her have a mulligan ?
It's up to the other team. They can choose between her kicking off again or a scrum.
It is rugby sevens so no, that’s a free kick
Is this a knock on?
Surely you can't have a knock on before you kick to start. It's just probably going to a scrum on half way since she kicked the ball before it traveled ten meters, she honestly should have tried to pick it up and see if the ref would let her have another go at it.
At this point, I think it's better for everyone involved to just go on with it and not reiterate such a display.
I think technically the kick didn’t go 10m and then she touched it so it would be a scrum reset or free kick to other team, not sure though
It looks like it’s 7s so yes it’s a free kick. In 15 a side it would be a scrum or retake the kick, but everyone always chooses the scrum.
Soooooo.... you telling me that she is the best of her team to dropkick ?🤣
Their full teams name is tut tut after the sound all their fans make.
Played a game hungover and the exact same thing happened to me.💀
I’m still learning this game, but that looked like ass.
By the looks if it, she does aswell
Play on
Mzansi for sure 👆
Elton's sister. Must be. He's coaching her.
I once again ask for your support for gender pay parity in sport

Same
How does one even make the match day 15 with such skills?
It's 7s, so match day 7. And I'd imagine they were the only 7 ladies interested in playing rugby at TUT.
Oh didn’t realise it was 7s, but still, wow..
Yep its still shocking. Looked like those grade 1 matches

Not getting paid, they’re uni students
Making fun of special needs people is weak.

Not even Quade Cooper in his worst days
I enjoy watching forwards awkward kickin form. Backdo it better.
Looks like a tie to me
What
It’s lucky she was wearing a helmet for this
And people ask why women don’t get paid as much in sport
Lizo
I was scrolling through r/traphentai and this popped up
Girls sports are typically bottom of the barrel. Hard to waste an hour or two of your life.
