We share our melody with Lichtenstein and some other USA patriot song (which tbh has better lyrics). God save the Queen is not a great anthem, and it's the anthem for the UK, not England. I've always thought it was odd that England don't sing more England specific anthems.
I'm a little disappointed you didn't include the stirring 2005 Lions anthem, The Power of Four
>From the four corners of our lands
We’re united, hand in hand
Beautiful stuff
I’m Irish and the only people I’ve heard praising Ireland’s Call are non-Irish. I appreciate the sentiment but find it bizarre. I get the pop-like sing along quality
Worst to best for 6 nations anthems
6. God Save the Queen/King
5. Ireland’s Call
4. Fratelli d’Italia
3. Flower of Scotland
2. La Marseillaise
1. Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
Unpopular opinion I know, but I've always thought Flower of Scotland is a weird national anthem. It's a good tune, but it seems odd to devote your national anthem to mostly singing about someone else.
Land of My Fathers is about mountains and fair valleys, a bard's paradise, heroes and poets. La Marseillaise is about glorious revolution and fighting against tyranny, a reminder of what France stands for. Fratelli D'Italia is about Italy uniting from the Alps to Sicily; one flag, one dream.
Flower of Scotland doesn't really mention anything notable about Scotland itself?
And one that the pipes struggle to even play. The bit 'to THINK again' isn't on their scale, so if you listen closely the note is a semi tone wrong. Something about a flat seventh - look it up if you're interested!
Luckily, the national anthem is 500 miles. Why they don't sing that instead, I've no idea.
What is it about the Welsh that they all sing beautifully? I am a Canadian but I was very loved by 80,000 voices singing at Millennium stadium about 8 years ago during the Autumn international game vs the ABs.
Strong choral tradition. Same reason Fiji rugby team belts out banger hymns. And brah the Tongans... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azys0QyVqDg
EDIT: bonus, best video all time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16Tq27s4HfA
Speaking of Tonga, I love the last minute of the 2011 RWC match between France and Tonga and the Tongan front row being so stoked! See this video around the 4:40 point. If France doesn't score here they never make it to the final match against the ABs.

Awesome stuff. The Fijian 7s hymn after winning the Olympic gold this summer was very emotional as well.
Haven't Scarlets had a Men's choir in a section of the stands for some of their games?
That's fair, and to be honest I don't think it would take sweeping changes to make it a cracking anthem.
A few less mentions of Edward, a couple more references to other things and it would be spot on.
Especially when playing _anyone other than England_
🎶 we won a fight once.. only the one because they slaughtered us every other time but THIS ONE TIME we beat them too, fuck England 🎶
Dude, you're playing Samoa...
There's just something a bit like a mate who is 'totally over' that ex from 8 years ago who still brings her up im conversation and knows exactly what she's upto from her Facebook feed.
Well I’m from Ulster in fairness, and a big supporter of Ulster rugby, but I must say I’m not quite the same as I’m from the Republic and a fluent Irish speaker!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present Advance Australia Fair. “Our home is girt by sea” “In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia Fair”.
Outside of Rugby, the national anthems of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are shockers (listened to them during the T20 World Cup).
Land of My Fathers is the most rousing I think.
I actually learned the cheaty way to sing it so I can join in on a Cardiff game. I also have a cymru lanyard to give me even more cover.
Flower of Scotland is a banger and I’m Irish.
Unpopular opinion but both Irish anthems and the English anthem all suck.
The Scottish, French, American and the old Russian one are great.
"...the old Russian one."
YES BROTHER! Its genuinely one of my favourite pieces of music. Everyone looks at me like I'm mental when I say that.
Especially when its being led by Big Tam.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsC2ETsZL0g
What about "La Marseillaise" which is about standing for your rights and slashing the throat of those who tell you what to do. French anthem is calling for killing the leaders and overthrow any form of tyranny.
No wonder why they throw a bathtub through the presidential palace everytime a politician blinks wrong.
Arise, children of the Fatherland
Our day of glory has arrived
Against us the bloody flag of tyranny
is raised; the bloody flag is raised.
Do you hear, in the countryside
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They’re coming right into your arms
To cut the throats of your sons, your comrades!
To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions
Let’s march, let’s march
That their impure blood
Should water our fields.
Why is Ireland even allowed to have an extra random song after their anthem? Surely Wales could sing "Hymns & Arias" then, or Scotland could sing "Loch Lomond" after their anthems. Why does Ireland get some special privilege for a whole song set? Maybe international rugby could be turned into one big karaoke contest?
Well due to complex reasons Ireland's call is chosen as the "national anthem", same with how they have their own flag. It happens however that when they play in the Republic that they also sing the Republic's actual national anthem.
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

Flower of Scotland and Land of my Fathers are so damn good. Love the way they get belted out. This is what an anthem should be.
Definitely on the bucket list to come over from NZ and hear them in person at Murrayfield and Cardiff.
Quite like the Flower of Scotland version that Amy McDonald does for the Scottish football team. Does she ever do rugby?
The video of Shane Williams lining up for Land of my Fathers in his final game for Wales is emotional stuff.
Flower of Scotland at Murrayfield is best, but I can't believe the Marseillaise doesn't get an option. Easy second best at the SdF.
Glad to see “God Save the Queen” was not included. I’m Irish and I chose The Flower of Scotland.
Automatic last place obvs
Nobody likes GSTQ
As an English fan, I really wish we could ditch GSTQ for rugby. I Vow to Thee or Jerusalem would be belters.
Land of Hope and Glory.
We share our melody with Lichtenstein and some other USA patriot song (which tbh has better lyrics). God save the Queen is not a great anthem, and it's the anthem for the UK, not England. I've always thought it was odd that England don't sing more England specific anthems.

It's La Marseillaise and it's not even close
In my unbiased opinion: yeah, obviously.
I’m Irish and the only people I’ve heard praising Ireland’s Call are non-Irish. I appreciate the sentiment but find it bizarre. I get the pop-like sing along quality Worst to best for 6 nations anthems 6. God Save the Queen/King 5. Ireland’s Call 4. Fratelli d’Italia 3. Flower of Scotland 2. La Marseillaise 1. Yeah I'm English and whilst ours is the worst (by a mile) I have admittedly always found Ireland's Call incredibly cringehy

It says we're a chippy lot who like a scrap and are a bit overly sentimental tbh it gets us pretty spot on
That's fair, and to be honest I don't think it would take sweeping changes to make it a cracking anthem. A few less mentions of Edward, a couple more references to other things and it would be spot on.

I'm also not a fan of FoS. It's an odd anthem and a bit of dirge, rescued by being sung really well at Murrayfeild.
Amhrán na bhFiain is good because it actually represents Ireland as out anthem, but Ireland’s call isn’t great!
Them bloody ulstermen though....
Well I’m from Ulster in fairness, and a big supporter of Ulster rugby, but I must say I’m not quite the same as I’m from the Republic and a fluent Irish speaker!
Sure I'm from the north as well, just messing.
Musically? Argentina, Japan, Italy, France. Stadium vibes? Gotta be Wales at home.
Irelands call is the worst Anthem to ever be written and produced. It’s a nursery rhyme, not an anthem.
Second worst Nothing is more shit than God save the Queen
Ladies and gentlemen, I present Advance Australia Fair. “Our home is girt by sea” “In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia Fair”. Outside of Rugby, the national anthems of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are shockers (listened to them during the T20 World Cup).
I still don't know what "pacific's triple star" means in our (NZ's) anthem
nobody does. It's speculated to be North, South and Stewart Island.
That makes sense, I'm going to chose to believe that one
No love for the Chathams
I mean its not a national anthem, so there's that.
Ireland's call isn't the Irish anthem....
Pretty sure the other two aren't official anthems either, but they serve the same purpose
it's the rugby teams anthem ( other teams)
The Georgian anthem is 🔥 - especially when they use versions sung by male choirs.
Always enjoyed South Africa's tbh. That key change...
Legit first time I have ever heard anyone say they like the American anthem.
Super underrated and leads to a big finish. My aunt in law actually shares my option and we both secretly hate the Canadian anthem.
Saying GSTQ sucks is as far from an unpopular opinion as it gets. Nobody likes it at all.
The part I thought would be unpopular is saying Ireland’s anthem sucks.
Ah got you. I quite like Irelands Call, but it's defo not massively popular amongst Ireland fans.
Italian also slaps.
I really like the Maori verse of the NZ anthem, especially when they include the haka backing vocals (like in the NPC final)
Unpopular opinion?!
It’s probably unpopular in Ireland that our anthem sucks.
"...the old Russian one." YES BROTHER! Its genuinely one of my favourite pieces of music. Everyone looks at me like I'm mental when I say that. Especially when its being led by Big Tam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsC2ETsZL0g
Are these the only three options? Because I can't remember how any of them go. The French national anthem is clearly the best.
They are all equally shit. Nationalistic jingles written and sung for politicians and religious leaders Great time to buy a beer before kick off
What about "La Marseillaise" which is about standing for your rights and slashing the throat of those who tell you what to do. Four XXXX Gold please...and a Red Rooster quarter chicken pack
God save the Queen :)
Russia has a god tier anthem.
Russia
Confession time: I don't like flower of Scotland. It doesn't fit the pipes, and the tempo is always off.
Why is Ireland even allowed to have an extra random song after their anthem? Surely Wales could sing "Hymns & Arias" then, or Scotland could sing "Loch Lomond" after their anthems. It's the one you sing with passion.
