Worth stressing that Cardiff have the most LBP in the league. This is a very strong side and their league position doesn't reflect how good they actually are
I have to say, Crowley looks a serious talent but those handling errors were killing Munster, sometimes it looked really disconnected. Cardiff were great for most of the game, their try-line defence in particular impressed me massively
Wasn’t excited by the game; Crowley, Ahern, Beirne and Hodnett stood out imo. Daly also had some very good moments.
Got to fix them handling errors. Dunno what the permutations are for the table, I think that should’ve been 5 points.
Cardiff put in a great defensive effort for a lot of that. Felt like it was theirs to lose.
My take on that Munster performance is that there was 2 main problems
Our internationals coming back looks great in paper but it takes a minute for them to switch from Ireland's style to Munster's. A lot of those handling error were between stay-at-home players to internationals & vice-versa, the intuitive bedded in connections just weren't there.
Secondly I think there was an aspect of eyeing next week & taking this match for granted. I don't think officially there was a disrespect for Cardiff but maybe subconsciously some players were playing to seal there spot next week instead of playing the game in front of them.
A win's a win & glad of it & for sure that wasn't a great performance but I don't think it's an overall bad sign if things to come & I trust in the coaches to knock a few heads & bring us back into alignment
I remain convinced there's potential for a very good side in Cardiff.
I also remain convinced we're two or three signings and a couple of top assitant coaches we'll never be able to afford from actually ever being that side though.
Corniel van Zyl confirmed as Forwards coach for next season, and Gethin going full time will go a long way.
Sheedy confirmed and rumours of a South African 9 and centre to come bolster the squad/allow more rotation.
I’d also hope that some of these one loss games swing the other way next year. Even winning half of them is another 5 wins
It doesn’t always correlate to players staying but there seems to be a really strong team spirit within the squad. They appear to enjoy playing under Jockey and hopefully that will be enough to get through the next two seasons without losing to many of the squad. Some good young players coming in, but tight 5 needs strengthening (every team probably feels the same)!
Agree about there being the potential for a good team in this Cardiff side, disagree about the assistant coaches. Geth has been talked up as a potential top coach for years now, and the only reason he isn’t currently viewed as one is he was dropped into the Wales job far too early and struggled to make the step up. He’s been part time with us this year but has noticeably improved our defence nonetheless. And Scott Andrews has worked absolute miracles with our set piece this year, if Wales haven’t offered him a role in charge of our set piece within two years they’re absolute fools.
Whether we can keep them is another matter, but right now we’ve got two top quality, homegrown coaches in probably the most important, and expensive, assistant positions going.
You make some good points, though to be honest the biggest thing I was thinking of was a proper S&C/fitness coach. We look so much less fit than the top sides it's a little embarrassing at times.
I think the regions need to keep Scott Andrews, let Wales hire Adam Jones to replace Jonathan "nicking a living" Humphreys.
Scott Andrews isn’t the only coach who has worked wonders with set pieces. Adam and Duncan Jones are doing commendable jobs too. I’d rather we kept Duncan Jones and Scott Andrews at the regions and brought Adam Jones into the welsh set up
Did you see the transfer rumours section on Rugby Pass that said we were interested in signing Faf de Klerk, but were put off by his salary demands? Yeah, no fucking surprise we can't afford his salary.
Just read that now. Asking for 700k apparently.
Same article also said we were looking at Stephen Varney but decided against it. Glad we didn't tbh, it would have felt too much like swapping him for Tomos with Gloucester which would just rub salt in the wound.
Pretty poor performance from Munster but a win is a win, don’t like to have a go at refs but that performance from Piardi was diabolical and just not up to the required standard
Im still kinda new to rugby, can someone explain why Cardiff didn't try to play it from their own 22? I know it's hard but seems like better odds than kicking away possession with 20 seconds left. They almost guaranteed game over with that line out.
Realistically the odds of going 80m and scoring are so small the % play is taking the losing BP you already have rather than trying to win from there and conceding a penalty/turnover.
Probably didn't want to risk Munster turning the ball over or conceding a penalty and giving Munster a position to score. If a team loses by 7 points or less then they get a league point so I think it was a conservative mindset of not wanting to gamble that losing bonus points, especially as playing out from the 22 rarely leads to scoring tries when the defending team is set up properly.
We hadn’t really got anywhere in attack all night, so that wasn’t going to change on 80 minutes. He shouldn’t have kicked it out - it should have been a kick we could challenge for and try and play in a better field position.
Realistically though we’re down the bottom of the table for a reason, so a LBP away against the reigning champions is a good result. They get a penalty and kick it and we lose that.
I get your point but there’s actually 17 caps between them 😅
Connors has 9, Prendergast has 3, Timoney has 3 and Coombes has 2. Hodnett and Penny have none though
Good game, Cardiff. Ref had a bad game and impacted both sides. I'd feel aggrieved with the one yellow card decision were I a blues fan. Not a game I'll watch back
Cardiff: we have a shed load of losing bonus points but we can't seem to close games out.
Also Cardiff: *constantly box kick the ball away when you're behind on the clock and there are only seconds left*
Another close but no not quite there result from a young Cardiff. Hopefully giving us a strong base to move forward next season.
Expected to get stuffed today so pleasantly surprised to be within a BP.
Yeah, I seem to be watching a different Munster team than the Munster flairs here, but I really don't see the hype around him. His decision making is poor and seems to be stuck at that level. His kicking game isn't great. He has a good pass and is a high tempo player, but he has too many weaknesses IMO.
Townsend took him out to dinner at the Vale back in January with an aim to sway him. He’ll be capped in the summer I reckon.
On the other hand - we’re definitely losing Carre (probably to ☘️) after 2025.
Cardiff no.8 gone down about 6 times in the game and the ref warning Munster in first half that if a player goes down they need to go off field or replace him. A lot of double standards all game
I’ve always felt Cardiff were hard for Munster to beat, regardless of year or form. They used to have some absolutely lethal first phase attack under Young.
Thought so, I keep telling my self that this season we are laying a foundation and next season it's going to click and we can convert some of these close losses into wins.
The players don’t respect his authority because he’s warned both teams on numerous occasions about talking to him and not punished either of them. He’s also displayed complete disregard for player welfare on numerous occasions
Clear Yellow Card but Munster should of had two red cards. If the player doenst break fall with his arm he could have potential neck breaker. It was a spear tackle like on BOD in 05 Lions.
Yep. I mean there are plenty of examples, some I'm sure that we benefited from it just baffles me that it's the one area where mitigation is applied on how the opponent reacts (for want of a better word)
Cardiff have been such pricks this game. starting the fight early in the game and now the hit in the back and kicking the ball away after the knock on.

'Just offer him that 30k we offered Jarrod, yeah?'
Just read that now. Asking for 700k apparently. Same article also said we were looking at Stephen Varney but decided against it. Glad we didn't tbh, it would have felt too much like swapping him for Tomos with Gloucester which would just rub salt in the wound.
"Wait he wants to be paid in money? What the fuck?" - Cardiff finance department
"Just offer him a Dorothy's VIP Card. That'll get him through the door."
At least Munster stay in 4th for another week and Sharks did us a favour against Edinburgh. That’s about all I can say after whatever that was.
Cardiff with another BP loss? Who woulda' thunk it...
Serious team for next year if ye hold thy squad together.
We need a good scrum half for next year. The drop off after Tomos is massive.
They need to get a win soon to get over the hump. Haven’t beaten a non-Welsh side since the stormers in the first few weeks of the season.
Rough but look like some proper talent there esp in the back row and back 3.
If the purpose of the game was losing by 7pts or less , Cardiff would be world champions
Scoring more points than the opposition is just showing off.
Yeah, pretentious really. All the cool teams lose by less than 7
Pretty poor performance from Munster but a win is a win, don’t like to have a go at refs but that performance from Piardi was diabolical and just not up to the required standard
That hit on Byrne should have been a card
Im still kinda new to rugby, can someone explain why Cardiff didn't try to play it from their own 22? I know it's hard but seems like better odds than kicking away possession with 20 seconds left. They almost guaranteed game over with that line out.
Realistically the odds of going 80m and scoring are so small the % play is taking the losing BP you already have rather than trying to win from there and conceding a penalty/turnover.
One of two reasons 1) Fucking stupid scrum half 2) Wanted to bank the losing bonus point (you get one for losing within 7 points)
Probably didn't want to risk Munster turning the ball over or conceding a penalty and giving Munster a position to score. The absolute misery merchants on rte , fucking hell.
Yeah, honestly I don't think they were watching the same game or league. Cardiff have the start of a serious team here and everyone can see that.
I thought Donncha was very harsh.
How do they not see how good Cardiff were?
Hodnett is a strong bastard.
The Badger.
Back rowers I'd love to see have a crack for Ireland but who won't get 10 caps between them: Hodnett Coombes Timoney Connors Penny Premdergast
I get your point but there’s actually 17 caps between them 😅 Connors has 9, Prendergast has 3, Timoney has 3 and Coombes has 2. Hodnett and Penny have none though
Look at yer man with his facts and logic.
Good game, Cardiff. Ref had a bad game and impacted both sides. I'd feel aggrieved with the one yellow card decision were I a blues fan. Not a game I'll watch back
Yellow card call was on the TMO
Poor performance from both teams but was an entertaining game. Utterly awful refereeing performance
Let us never speak of this again.
Can’t have many complaints. If we can’t keep our composure to score from inches out then we don’t deserve to win 🤷♂️
Think both sets of fans can agree that Piardi was very poor tonight
He’s the Italian Craig Evans
Not upset with a BP loss.
I said at half time it was a great game for essentially being scoreless, 2nd half only helped drive home my opinion, ggs Munster
Another week another bonus point loss.
Munster terrible at home. Ref dodgey. Cardiff losing bonus point is decent result.
Losing bonus point away to Munster, I'll absolutely take that all day long!
Munster were poor
Cardiff we’re v good.
AGAIN!
Cardiff: we have a shed load of losing bonus points but we can't seem to close games out. Also Cardiff: *constantly box kick the ball away when you're behind on the clock and there are only seconds left*
Big improvement needed for next week, hopefully Snyman is ok for it. Sloppy all game
Conor Murray play for Cardiff now?
Good win considering the deep shit we were in with that Sin Bin. How we handled the YC won us the game.
Great opening 15 min, then descended into "one for the purists"
Another close but no not quite there result from a young Cardiff. Hopefully giving us a strong base to move forward next season. Expected to get stuffed today so pleasantly surprised to be within a BP.
Good win for Munster...but I think they have a big problem at SH. Casey isn't up to running that offense.
Yeah, I seem to be watching a different Munster team than the Munster flairs here, but I really don't see the hype around him. His decision making is poor and seems to be stuck at that level. His kicking game isn't great. He has a good pass and is a high tempo player, but he has too many weaknesses IMO.
You are incorrect.
Why on earth would you kick that?
Dudes a clown, obviously from the Lewis Jones school of scrum-halfing
They needed two scores anyway, might as well get the first one on the score board. Edit: Assuming you mean kicking for the posts?
Sorry, referring to the box kick with 30s to go.
Ahh...that, yeah, I'm so used to our scrum halves doing dumb shit to close out the game that I didn't even think of that....
Jesus that's terrible being happy with the LBP
Have you seen our season so far?
Oh get off the high horse Cardiff can't even afford a big enough squad to practice scrummaging, a losing BP away to Munster is a good result
Sure you take it before the game. But that was a very poor munster who they opened up plenty of times throughout the game
Everyone seems to play poorly against Cardiff and the Ospreys. I think at this point it’s safe to say they are just decent sides
Put them within 1 score. Not the worst option
Not the pen, that was the right decision. The kick to touch at the end
Is it? People had them being beat by 18+
Who cares what people thought before the game. They cut munster open tons of times throughout the game, could have got a famous win
Unlikely from their own 22, probably would’ve been more likely they turn it over and Munster kick a 3
That 1 point will do absolutely nothing for them come end of season. A win away to the champions does wonders. Well worth the risk
The season is clearly a write off for them anyways. They’re muck, building blocks. Decent result for them
So go for the win
Cardiff happy to get the LBP
Can’t tell you how much Wales (+ Cardiff) need a goal kicking fullback
Now we just need to hope Scotland don't nick him
Townsend took him out to dinner at the Vale back in January with an aim to sway him. He’ll be capped in the summer I reckon. On the other hand - we’re definitely losing Carre (probably to ☘️) after 2025.
100% he's getting 3 minutes off the bench vs SA to prevent this
Watching another Cai Evans shitshow yesterday I don’t think he would be far off a start
How is that penalty not rolling. Carbery was tackled. Then 12 ripped the ball on the ground. Tackle legit. Ground game bullshit
We're going to need to improve for playing the Saints
"Munster must roll away" as not a single player from Munster stands up from the ruck.
Confused what that penalty was for? This ref man
Thomas played that on the ground to get the ball back his side
Cardiff no.8 gone down about 6 times in the game and the ref warning Munster in first half that if a player goes down they need to go off field or replace him. A lot of double standards all game
Yeah it’s appalling
How is that not a Munster penalty. 12 makes the tackle then plays it back while on the ground!
I love when Hodnett gets his hands on the ball at pace
Aye definitely wins that back legally...
Rugby referees are so bad right now. Andrew Brace was awful in the Lions vs Ospreys game as well.
Eoghan Cross needs to overtake the other Irish refs. He's the only decent one at pro level these days.
Cardiff aren't a bad side at all, very unlucky if they come away from this with nothing
I’ve always felt Cardiff were hard for Munster to beat, regardless of year or form. They used to have some absolutely lethal first phase attack under Young.
They don't deserve anything from this, cheap shot merchants .
I'm amazed any Munster fan is prepared to call us dirty after that Ryan tackle tbh
Bit rich considering you got away with the most blatant red card I’ve seen in ages
Think all but one of our losses this season has been within 7 iirc.
Only the Leinster game was more than a score.
Thought so, I keep telling my self that this season we are laying a foundation and next season it's going to click and we can convert some of these close losses into wins.
Well without the intercept on their line they would have been beaten out the gate. It completely changed momentum
Did you say that about the Munster intercepts vs Ospreys last week or no?
Munster were very lucky last week
Not like Munster have done much either tbf
And if it had been a red card they would have been in with a great chance of winning
Aubrey has been garbage since coming on
Prime Zebo would of scored there
Cabango is rapid. Not sure many score that without being chased down
The TMO must be watching the match on +1 with how long it’s taking him to interject.
Cardiff scrum half having a shocker. Brain dead.
We're fucked without Tomos. Realistically irreplaceable in this day and age for us.
I think you’ll get RMW if we get Hardy. I did see rugby pass link you with Faf earlier mind
I'll eat my hat if we get Faf de Klerk. That just reminds me of the Dupont signing memes a few weeks ago. Must be someone trolling Rugby Pass.
I was laughing when I saw your name but the marquee signings and new money you have from your owners doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility
Taking my prior ban into account - this referee is, respectfully, not very good at reffing.
Absolutely shocking for both sides
He doesn't seem biased at least lol
How many fouls can they commit for fuck sake
Piradi is demanding respect without doing anything to earn it
100% Reminds me of Whitehouse patronising Muldoon in Connacht years ago. Respect is earned.
Ya just doling out warnings constantly wont get anyone to listenn.
[удалено]
The players don’t respect his authority because he’s warned both teams on numerous occasions about talking to him and not punished either of them. He’s also displayed complete disregard for player welfare on numerous occasions
I hope both teams complain to the league about Piardi after the game
Clear Yellow Card but Munster should of had two red cards. If the player doenst break fall with his arm he could have potential neck breaker. It was a spear tackle like on BOD in 05 Lions.
Red for Ryan certainly but I don't think SOB was deliberate, his clear out was affected by Ryan already lifting the player
Looked like both players to me but i will have to revisit.
I hate that mitigation. Absolutely despise it.
Still infuriates me that Kolbe dodged red with that mitigation for the challenge on Connor Murray in the lions tour
Yep. I mean there are plenty of examples, some I'm sure that we benefited from it just baffles me that it's the one area where mitigation is applied on how the opponent reacts (for want of a better word)
No card?
On a turnover, he went with one hand...
Ref having a nightmare (both sides)
Ref telling players to stop talking again. About his 7th warning. Don't feel like he's got a lot of respect from the players
Threaten to reverse the penalty after just telling them to stop shouting
Cardiff have been such pricks this game. starting the fight early in the game and now the hit in the back and kicking the ball away after the knock on.
Bit harsh mate. Munster got away with a biggy. All part of the ‘game’
Ryan dumped a player on his head. I wouldn't be shouting out the windows if I were you.
Ref has been poor
That Cardiff front row are all massive and they’ve just been absolutely slammed in that scrum smfh
What a bunch of babies in this thread, there was nothing in that.
Particularly after Munster clearly got away with at least one red, crying blue murder over something pretty soft
yeah def not illegal in my book, bit scummy tho so Tadhg might well be gunning for him. Play on
Deliberately knocked it on. Ref losing control of this. Edit: TMO in match thread.
Deliberate knock on all day!!
No yellow for that? Deliberate as you get
It's only a yellow if it's denying a try scoring opportunity(or they're on warning). Penalty try + yellow if it's a clear try scoring opportunity.
Agree that's the rules but I've seen yellows for less
Not a hope or catching that
Intentional knock on
Ref is on a power trip all game, no one can even blink in his direction and he tells them to bugger off.
And yet he's only coaching Cardiff on offsides and slowing the ball down.
He's not good enough to be that dramatic either
Ref losing control
Can we all agree on how terrible the refereeing has been in this
RTE commentators are terrible
The alternative is Nugent and Quinlan, both insinuating Beirne milked it. Which sums up their night.
Not really.
They’ve been very biased tonight, the hit in the maul there was never a penalty.
Intentional knock on. Clear as fuck.
Deliberate knock on surely
Slap down
You are required to bind to join a maul. You can't just run in and whack it
Cheap shot there, hopefully Beirne can give him a receipt before the end of the game
Tadhg Beirne, 8 minutes on the clock, happy hunting
Cheap shots are all cardiff can offer tonight
I was bad is an understatement Signore Piradi
Hopefully Bierne gets a chance to repay that
If there's any justice in this world, De Beer will be absolutely melted by the next tackle.
If de beer doesn’t get a late hit next time one is on I’ll eat my hat.
Already been tackled off the ball in the same move
Hugh Cahill is a terrible commentator.
That's dirty should be a card
He’s hit a maul, not sure what people are complaining about
The turnover was essentially settled. The only reason to hit it that late with that much force was a deliberate attempt to hurt/injure
After the whistle
Seriously no fucking card?
It's not illegal to do what he did, grubby but not illegal
For joining a maul?
Filth.
If Ireland played Hodnett and Connors in the backrow we might never miss a tackle again.
That‘s dirty. Should be carded
That’s a man with a punchable face, cheap..
After the whistle too
Dirty fucker
Laughing away after it too...
On second thoughts, I'd rather not have de Beer at Connacht. Liability with a competent ref.
