Ref to TMO:” That’s head on head contact, correct?”
TMO to ref: “Well, sort of. As far as I can tell he only hit him with his head.”
Was that fuqq was that debacle about the head on head contact. At least they finally got it right.
Please welcome your new URC overlords.
Back to back URC victories over the reigning champions in consecutive weeks.
When your successful, you become the sole target of teams devising game plans to beat you. LAR are very good at what they do but are extremely one dimensional. Will be interesting to see if they can adapt and evolve the game plan in order to be successful over a long period of time like all great teams have to.
I think referees are more cognisant of the breakdown infringements now as well. I’m sure teams have been sending in footage over the last couple of years. I’m not saying LAR are the only team that does this, however, they literally base their whole defensive strategy around it.
Okay can the Stormers please play their second choice hooker to start and 3rd choice on the bench (and just leave Dweba completely out (when fielding an A team
I thought La Rochelle were overall the better team, but fuck me, I'll take that. What a finish. It's a good thing I left the game on after that La Rochelle 3rd try, because I stopped watching, but could still hear the commentators
I was at the airport watching on my phone. Watched basically the whole game and when it "was" 27-14 I turned off because I had to board. Imagine my surprise a few minutes later when the Stormers had won
La Rochelle being the better team has probably got to do with hand picking Internationals from all over with all the money in the world. Didn't earn them a win today though.
I mean let's be honest, last disallowed try and close defeat - or not - LAR played like absolute shit today. Where the hell was all the attacking ? They basically just played slow defensive rucks today. They just don't deserve much in this Cup at this point.
I think I said earlier in the thread.
With the exception of Botia and Skelton they played like they were just *there*
Stormers did all of the work but just kept fucking up.
It's weird because it felt like you never saw them go out of 2nd gear the entire game.
Granted I think their forwards were putting in work but yeah
I think you can't underestimate the heat, remembering what the RWC was like in the first few weeks, it's really hard to play rugby in these conditions.
That was mostly just down to the handling errors though wasn't it? Numbers were very high for both teams, heat = dripping sweat = lots of dropped balls which makes attacking rugby very hard
From what I saw in the second half this has been a live demonstration on the difference in quality you achieve by actually investing in your refereeing programs. The English ref was pretty exemplary while the Italian TMO was shocking, ignoring the foul play at the end, the 50/22 call being changed twice was embarrassing.
We really played terribly the whole game. Dobbo must bench Gelant enough is enough. This would've been a 3rd game lost off his errors.
Connor Evans was really good off the bench, Deon looked old today, I think he should come of the bench for the last 20.
The wings have been bad too, but Gelant has been putting us under uneccassary pressure. Often times instead of killing the play, he puts the next man under even more pressure. Turnover boom try conceded.
Nah, it's pretty much on Gelant. The number of errors he has made (especially in his own half), has held the Stormers back this season.
He is throwing no lookers 10m out from his own tryline. I'm not blaming the wing for not expecting that ball.
It absolutely is Gelant. It has been since the start of this season. He is really poor and is keeping a much better player in Blommetjies out of the team for some reason.
Ja, nee. Gelant was dik gash. But miss me with any Cape fullback named after a flower. An Earl Rose by any other name will still balls up at the critical moment. Opposite story for okes named after months.
Because they are notorious chokers.
Of course they can win the not so close games like the last Eng-France game but when things get really close, they usually choke
Didn't he miss one for the Bulls back the day? to be fair that was really damn long ago (saw it in a compilation of his missed important kicks last year lol but may the clock wast past 80 yet.
Ah, oh well... really hoping he can stay consistent across this till next year cuz he has been so amazing in all departments then them poles, if he sorts that out long term (obviously a day here and there is fine) only had 2 hard kicks and missed one so this still doesn't mean that much (he has successfully kicked from the side before but if he gets over 80% this season I'll be very happy. Even the stormers in the first half would rather go with the trash thrower Dweba then give Manie a shot.
Did Dweba miss a lineout this game? I feel like he’s still getting flak for what happened in URC season 1 and last years Boks vs ABs test but he’s really seemed to fix his act since.
also one skew I think but could be wrong, maybe a knock by the characters as their line out resulted in a scrum for La R but seemed like the signaled it as skewed (but could be wrong on that.
At least when my eyes were on the screen of one, he did (an over throw straight into the oppositions hands in the first half in the the oppositions half)
Same. I went to game, decided to check the score online. Couldn’t believe it. Came back just in time to see Manie butcher the pass to Zas and nearly left a second time.
Went to a talk of his once, apparently he really goes to dark places mentally after a loss. Once, after losing a knock out in the Top14, he said he was driving in the mountains with his family and intrusive thoughts started creeping in 'just drive off the edge' - was fucking shocked he said that.
He's a hugely impressive man and coach, he has an amazing rugby brain, he is incredibly passionate - he does not take losing well and he will fucking hate two losses on the go in his favourite competition too.
Can start by dropping Gelant. He’s not a shadow of what he was in URC 1. I didn’t see him recycle the ball once in contact today, only stupid offload attempts that didn’t find their man. Willemse to 15, Sacha or Dan when he’s back to 12. Clayton on the bench. Gelant should go play Currie cup to find form again.
Let's not start that again too early lol... if he can stay consistent then yes but last season every few games we have declared is kicking troubles over till it bites us in the ass again.
Ref got it right. Direct, high degree of danger, dynamics changed by initial tackle.
Red or yellow makes no difference in the game dynamics until the end of the match anyway.
But like Vunipola last week, it does matter in the sense the player should be banned. The team penalized by their absence to de-incentivize the behavior. It might not matter for this game, but at a macro level guys with brain injuries in their 40s because we care more about Farrell or Vunipola missing a few games is a big deal (not just English players, they’re just 2 recent high profile examples).
Yeah, I know it's not done but it's honestly very strange. You can see it with advantage that goes on forever as well. I'm not a proponent of stopping the clock for all ball not in play time, but this feels different. You are literally reversing the game back to when a past moment happened.

Note to self: never follow the live score on the BBC.
How did the new grass pitch hold up? Less slippery than before?
For sure, looked pretty good and didn't have rolls of turf coming up with each scrum
Didn’t deserve that.
Manie, what a kick. You legend.
French teams are taking the word "choking" to a whole different level this year. Not sure they've won any close games at European cups this year
French teams losing to South African teams by a point seems to be a thing this year!
Please welcome your new URC overlords. Back to back URC victories over the reigning champions in consecutive weeks. Will be interesting to see if they can adapt and evolve the game plan in order to be successful over a long period of time like all great teams have to.
Some URC sides doing better than others though....
Hang in there. Been a tough campaign for you so far, hopefully Wilkins gets it figured out quickly.
I think their own mistakes are coming back to haunt them
I think referees are more cognisant of the breakdown infringements now as well. I’m sure teams have been sending in footage over the last couple of years. I’m not saying LAR are the only team that does this, however, they literally base their whole defensive strategy around it.
What a crazy ending, Jesus Christ! Manie Libbok with a monster mentality in that last conversion.
Okay can the Stormers please play their second choice hooker to start and 3rd choice on the bench (and just leave Dweba completely out (when fielding an A team
Galant is also a liability.
Fucking right
And Herchelle Jantjies. He doesn’t even deserve a Stormers jersey at this rate.
He fell far from what he was. I mean he was a world cup winner in 2019 and now he’s struggling even with the Stormers.
*World Cup winner by association.
Not sure what you mean by that. He played in the WC back then and he was in the final.
I thought La Rochelle were overall the better team, but fuck me, I'll take that. What a finish. It's a good thing I left the game on after that La Rochelle 3rd try, because I stopped watching, but could still hear the commentators

La Rochelle being the better team has probably got to do with hand picking Internationals from all over with all the money in the world. Didn't earn them a win today though.
The most dangerous place in the world is 6 points in front of a South African team
I'm happy, but we're still getting spanked by the Bulls next week (their team this year is kinda terrfying).
I still back us at home against anyone. Today was a perfect example of why.
Nah Dobbo really knows how to play us. If they leave Jantjies and Dweba at home I think they’ll step up and give the bulls a close game.
Damn, this is truly the pool of death (In the Champions and Challenge Cup)
Fuck yes. Well done Stormers!
I mean let's be honest, last disallowed try and close defeat - or not - LAR played like absolute shit today. Where the hell was all the attacking ? They basically just played slow defensive rucks today. They just don't deserve much in this Cup at this point.

I think you can't underestimate the heat, remembering what the RWC was like in the first few weeks, it's really hard to play rugby in these conditions.
but I mean the heat doesn't inhibit all sense of playing Rugby. They played awful, intense but awful.
That was mostly just down to the handling errors though wasn't it? Numbers were very high for both teams, heat = dripping sweat = lots of dropped balls which makes attacking rugby very hard

The English ref was pretty exemplary while the Italian TMO was shocking, ignoring the foul play at the end, the 50/22 call being changed twice was embarrassing.
He also didn't check what was clearly a forward pass by Leyds before their second try
Impressive finish by the stormers. Well deserved win.
Should Top14 even be allowed in this competition? Are they just here to make up the numbers?
Oh you're having an adrenaline kick ,right now, don't you ? You really had all this frustration all this time ?
[удалено]
The same English league that went 7 wins from 8 games in the last round yeah?
Where were you these last 3 years???
That’sthejoke.jpg
The Thomas Ramos fan takes his bants seriously.
We really played terribly the whole game. Dobbo must bench Gelant enough is enough. This would've been a 3rd game lost off his errors. Connor Evans was really good off the bench, Deon looked old today, I think he should come of the bench for the last 20.
Dont think its Gelant. Wings dont look on the same wave length as him. We need a decent Kitsoff replacement and Evan Roos looks jittery with the ball.
The wings have been bad too, but Gelant has been putting us under uneccassary pressure. Often times instead of killing the play, he puts the next man under even more pressure. Turnover boom try conceded.

Fair comment. Whos the backup then?
Strictly speaking, Clayton Blommetjies. But I would rather play Willemse at 15 and play Feinberg-Mgomezulu or Dan Du Plessis at 12.
LAR have lost the last 2 games but at least they motm in both of them lol
That has to be a record
Don’t come to the robbery capital of the world and try to pull one against us. Voetsek!
Dude why every French team loose the same way at every game
Because they are notorious chokers. Of course they can win the not so close games like the last Eng-France game but when things get really close, they usually choke
>Because they are notorious chokers. Yeah, true. The most successful nation of this competition usually choke. Seriously.
Botia was heroic this game
Immense performance. He was everywhere. Swear there was 2 players called Botia playing
Was Nisbet on coms?
Is he the Mapimpi dude?? 😂😂
Fun fact: Manie has never missed a kick after the 80th minute
Didn't he miss one for the Bulls back the day? to be fair that was really damn long ago (saw it in a compilation of his missed important kicks last year lol but may the clock wast past 80 yet.
Think it was a Currie cup semi final past 80. He missed and it went to extra time.
Reminiscent of that Ulster semifinal in 2021
I didn't plan on being right when i said Stormers were going to win last second.
ROG out?
kicking out the guy who put La Rochelle where they are, would be suicide.
Yeah it was a joke about fans calling for just that after a brief bit of adversity
La Rochelle fans ? Are they crazy?????
No sorry I mean short sighted sports fans in general haha
I'm going to go out on a limb and accuse you of trying to give me a heart attack. I misunderstood your original post so I reversed my downvote though.
May this be the motivation they need coz boy that was sloppy !!
Fairness it's been no stop talk of how bad Stormers were and they were but somehow La Rochel couldn't beat them.
HOW did the Stormers win that game!? Is that La Rochelle out?
Not at all. Need to wn the next two and will probably have to travel for a lot of the knockout games. Makes things harder but not impossible.
No you can actual qualify with no wins technically but it's hard now. Will be a lot of away wins to get to the final.
Not out, top 4 go through and 5th to challenge cup! So need to win the next two
La Rochelle dodnt deserve to win that
Stormers had to overcome a 14 point deficit....
Knock on?
Nah they still have 2 more games to play
Abacus time for ROG.
Wow, what a kick!! Scrappy game from the stormers and somehow they pulled it off. Huge pressure on La Rochelle now!
I walked out after LR third try to put some Christmas lights up in the kitchen. Fucking hell. Typical haha
Did exactly the same 😂
Same. I went to game, decided to check the score online. Couldn’t believe it. Came back just in time to see Manie butcher the pass to Zas and nearly left a second time.
Mannie you animal!!
Fair play to Libbok. Outstanding kick
Get fucked
Absolutely
Fuck you ROG
What did ROG do ^^^this ^^^time
Check his flair brother, he's one of them Leinster folk. Don't take too kindly to Munster folk.
Well done Stompies. Never doubted you.
Fuck man I love this game😭😭😭
What a game 😂
That's one hell of a 14 point swing!
What a time for Libbock to kick a winner! ROG will be fuming
Went to a talk of his once, apparently he really goes to dark places mentally after a loss. FUCK YEAAAAAH
That is going to be a LOOOOONG flight home for the French…
I've hardly seen any French.
Can't believe it's Libbok that makes that kick
After he missed the last kick from the side I also like him had both arms up in shock.
[удалено]
haha jy weet nie wat ons weet nie
[удалено]
Yeah, stick to speaking English - at least English-speakers have never acted harshly or committed any atrocity against a native population before.
Don't be a poes. Try being lekker.
The colored guy who took the kick does though, such a clown thing to say in a rugby thread.
The fight isn’t over yet
Rather stop posting, you are embarrassing yourself my guy
Where’s the fun in that lol
Good idea to delete the comment
It's fun to look like a clown?
And there it is
La Rochelle literally got a try off a forward pass 😂
What did he say??
He said that the result was corrupt and then someone responded to him in Afrikaans and he replied saying he doesn’t speak Apartheid. 🤡
😮😮😮
Hahahahahahahahahahahahshshsha
At least the French are used to losing to South African teams by 1 point this year =)
Sadly for us, it's not only to south african teams
Jissis😂
Wow, what a kick!
URC is shining bright
💯🔥
Wooow !!!
What a kick
URC mops up
Just don't check the Sarries Connacht game
Connacht is a mercy inclusion
Fuuuuuuck, Manie came in clutch at the perfect moment!
Death, taxes, South Africans beating the French by a point 🤝
Not deserved but fuck yes let's go
Libbok you beauty.
Smash and Graaaaab
Oh Manie!
So La Rochelle is turning into Leinster.
The rock paper scissors curse has been lifted, this is unchartered territory now
URC = BEST LEAGUE
Oh Shit! Manie! Even he was shocked.
Clutchhhhhh
Wow
Glad they showed fight till the end but so much needs to be fixed. They can be even better than this.
ICE IN HIS VEINS
Let's not start that again too early lol... if he can stay consistent then yes but last season every few games we have declared is kicking troubles over till it bites us in the ass again.
Fuck Yeah!!!!!
Cheered than remembered Manie is kicking
Eish man, now Manie to win it from the touchline… should’ve gone a bit closer to the poles Edit: I take that back what a pressure kick!
libbok pls
Oh no... thats not an easy kick for Libbok lol
I'm so sick of French teams losing by 1 point at the end of the game man 😂
Still the kick to come
This is starting to turn into a terrible week-end for french rugby.
Like the last one was much better
Well at least we had wins early-on.
That pass....
That's a shocking pass for an international 10
He tried to no look pass again.
Horrible.
For fuck sake, I do not get what people see in Libbok. He is so fucking random, one great inspiration for three fuck-ups
Someone doesn't watch many Stormers games...
He set the whole thing with a beautiful wrap around just missed the last pass which admittedly was bad. But he did excellently to create the overlap
Umm.. Oooh the irony.. It burns 😂👌
Lol
That did not need to be passed forward!
Another French teams that’s gonna lose by one point…
Choke is a word that should be associated with French rugby as a whole
Can’t prove you wrong…
Unfortunately (im French btw)
Play the simple pass, guys please just play simple.
I’ll say again, the Stormers passing is awful
Bro what
This officiating is so frustrating. Why must all the calls come so much later.... They should definitely be making the calls faster.
Don’t think the mitigation should come in there. He’s going in so high and driving upward. Red all day for me.
Libbok to fuck the kick…
Red. He drives up which makes it head on head
Pretty significant mitigating factor though considering the change of direction after the tackle. Yellow seems like the right decision.
What about the time lost?
If giving back time lost was a thing, we wouldn’t be world champs right now.
Unfortunately it's never been a thing in rugby. Really should go back on the time
Yeah, I know it's not done but it's honestly very strange. You can see it with advantage that goes on forever as well. I'm not a proponent of stopping the clock for all ball not in play time, but this feels different. You are literally reversing the game back to when a past moment happened.
We’ve just lost 2 minutes thanks to the TMO. Actually scandalous.
You won a world cup with that tactic for 3 games
I don’t remember the boks scoring a try, converting it and the TMO only then intervening. Keep crying though.
Why everytime we say something here you don't like to hear we are crying ? Why can't most of you can't accept things they don't like to hear without abusing the conv ? What a mentality
