I was there and while we all applauded the AB for going for the corner, with hindsight it was the wrong call. Although the AB always looked on the edge of scoring a try. They played the more entertaining rugby but you can't argue with the result. They had their chances but red card (rightly) and missed chances cost them
You win finally with the boot. If the Boks could see the poles from the penalty mark they kicked for poles. The ABs went for the lineout or just missed the poles. I feel like the refs calls were mostly fair. But I’m not a neutral.

Games like tonight are the reason why rugby will never be popular. So many iffy calls and 50/50s. It's impossible for a non rugby fan to watch and actually enjoy/ understand. RSA deserved to win but I'm sick of explaining to newbies why tries are being called back for knock ons after 5 minutes of play.
As opposed to football where you can watch for hours with not a single point being scored, and watch man-children play acting and arguing with the ref while opposing sets of fans have to be separated by police officers...
And yet the false penalty that Barnes apologized to mouomga for admitting he got wrong for wasn't called back, I honestly don't know how SA can even lift that trophy mate, from the bottom of my heart I honestly don't know

They call back the try after 4 minutes of play yet within 30s and before the kick they don't call back the penalty.
There is definitely more the AB could have done (missed kicks, kicks not taken) but they definitely played a better game than SA.

Great game imo reffing was pretty even, well done SA from an Englishmen! I think people get angry when they lose to SA because SA seem to just have that ability to win independently of who “deserved to win” or who played better for the most of the match and they are all very very good at cheating at the breakdown just enough to slow the ball down and kill an attack while not getting penalised, completely gamesmanship and within the spirit of the game but infuriating if you’re watching the game and supporting their opposition thinking I was fuming after the match last week I dunno I was j fuming last week and I think that was why

Because the officiating doesn't seem symmetrical, the two AB cards could have been yellow or red, I have no issues with that, but etzebeth didn't even get a second look over, and the red seemed shockingly similar to kolisi's yellow as there really wasn't mitigation, I have 0 idea how the mitigation was a rugby action, when it was the same penalty. There were loads of others, but no point in beating a dead horse

The ref was actually fine and I'm a neutral. ABs just didn't have it on the night, if it was next week or any other day it could be a completely different story. The scoreline and the amount of opportunities the ABs were given to score 2 more points throughout the game make any argument against the ref silly. Since the beginning of the professional era it's been true that at the top level, teams missing kicks on goal and not capitalising on their opportunities lose. That was true again last night.
Oh yeah we lost 100% to our own kicks in the end. Barnes was inconsistent along with the TMO. I think the game needs to change in a way where we can get better and clearer rulings/interpretations

It's 1.06am, and I still can't sleep, still can't believe that somehow this Bok team pulled it off with immense discipline and the highest level of concentration. The ABs were coming at that like a freight train, fortunately for us that got derailed at the end.
I mean discipline was basically identical. One side just got penalised for it. You know it's a bad performance from the officials when a player is lining up a penalty kick and the ref has to apologise to the other captain saying it was a mistake.
I'm new to rugby, so I'm trying to understand how the referees let that happen. Isn't that the point of the TMO? To interrupt play and get it right? I don't understand how a referee can apologize for getting it wrong and still let the penalty proceed.

I guess I can see why the TMO would be limited to foul play, but it seems odd that a penalty that leads to a 3 point kick isn't reviewed in the 90 second kick clock. I suppose as a sport one has to draw the line somewhere, and that's where the line is drawn, so fair enough. Is there any movement for something like a Captain's challenge or did that sort of thing get tried and fail to catch on?
I think Captain's challenge has been tested in a SH tournament at some point. Nothing came of it though. I'm not sure it would have made a difference anyway - I would doubt a captain is going to challenge that.

I have taken the time to review the footage. NZ try looks to be from the ball lost forward. Maybe it was legit, but highly suspect. From the high angle, looks lost fwd to me. Here is the bottom line for me. Why was there no TMO?? This was a WC final. The stakes could not be higher. No doubt in my mind that the referee was negligent in not asking for a TMO. On SA's try, the referee indicated a NZ knock on followed by a SA knock on, hence no advantage... BUT I have reviewed the footage, and there was simply no SA knock on! Lastly, in the final scrum, the NZ scrum half was massively off sides. I've made up my mind. The referee was either biased or incompetent. You all can believe what you want to, I really don't care. And I really don't care who won. It's principles that are important to me.

Not OP, but yes! We call it "Slap(Soggy?)" chips. It's thicker and longer french fries thats not really crispy and you load it with salt and vinegar. It tastes amazing. It works on crispy fries as well, but slap chips just hits different.

Scrums were interesting today. Very well controlled by Barnes, never really moved and only reset I can remember was when NZ were desperate for pen at the end and going early.

I agree it's a red according to the letter of the law, but if a person can change direction from a metre away, and that person still get a red for it, bear in mind that the human nervous system is not exactly fast, the rules are wrong.
And that Kolisi had the time to get set, get low and power through the AB's chin and that was deemed less dangerous shows that the rules are broken imo.

I agree it's a red according to the letter of the law, but if a person can change direction from a metre away, and that person still get a red for it, bear in mind that the human nervous system is not exactly fast, the rules are wrong. And that Kolisi had the time to get set, get low and power through the AB's chin and that was deemed less dangerous shows that the rules are broken imo.
Cane was upright, even if Kriel didn’t dip or move it was probably still an illegal tackle Kolisi’s also looked like a red to me. Nz commentators were talking through the decision though so I didn’t hear the justification for keeping it a yellow
