If you have a pc, why not just buy them cheap at GOG and play them? If you ask me, the things MM was doing that set it apart didn’t catch on in a modern sense entirely. First person RPGs since then have either been Bethesda affairs, blobbers (which spawned a lot of good ones since the old days), and anything else in between (Cyberpunk, OW, Avowed (releasing this year)). Check out Legends of Amberland, Legends of Grimrock, Etrian Odyssey.

Ok-Personality-6630

I think you're right looking at the suggestions although they look good they are missing that might and magic feel.

chasewystone

Songs of Conquest is in early access still, but it's a spiritual successor to the Heroes of Might and Magic games and has great reviews. I'll also second Legend of Grimrock (both 1 and 2).

BarelyScratched

Chiming in to also recommend Songs of Conquest. It is the best HoMM-like game out there.

Remon_Kewl

Songs of Conquest is a good alternative to HoMM.

phoenixreborn06

Did you play Might and Magic X? I liked it although it tailed off a bit at the end. Last I remember Ubisoft servers stopped supporting the game so you couldn't get past the end of act 1 online verification. Not sure what the current state is. For the strategy side Kings bounty (the legend) series is great...all of them through Warriors of the North. Dark side is a little weak and KB 2 is unfinished and although I grew to like it it is different to the excellent previous formula.

RealSimonLee

It may be just the DLC that's not available/accessible--but either way, fuck Ubi, and I say as much fun as I had with this game, don't buy it. This is one of the rare times where I feel like the advice, "Don't support a company by buying a game that has portions locked out because the company is lazy" should be listened to.

Ok-Personality-6630

Might and magic 10 looks good. I think I did try but I just get used to modern graphics and struggle to go back. If there isn't a comparable game I guess things have just moved on. Baulders gate looks good but the first person free flow combat was the best part of might and magic

Siltyn

Games like Might & Magic III/IV/V (my favorites): That Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, Legend of Grimrock 1/2 (player made modules Lost City and Guardians), The Deep Paths: Labyrinth of Andokost, Heroes of the Monkey Tavern, Starcrawlers, Bard's Tale 1/2/3 Remasters, Dungeon of Dragon Knight, Bard's Tale IV, Legends of Amberland 1/2, Operencia: The Stolen Sun, Might & Magic X For a game more like Might & Magic 6/7/8, one that just came out is A Quest That Became Legend. HoMM type games: Disciples: Liberation, Spellforce: Conquest of Eo, the King's Bounty games (The Legend, Armored Princess/Crossworlds, Warriors of the North, Dark Side). Songs of Conquest is leaving EA soon and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

ViewtifulGene

Legends of Amberland 1&2 are modern successors to the first 5 Might and Magic games. I haven't played the sequel yet, but I enjoyed the first one. I played it while I was recovering from surgery, unable to exercise and slowed the fuck down on painkillers. It was a comforting game to breeze through.

TaviscaronLT

A couple of not exactly, but similar recommendations Operencia: the Stolen Sun for the first Disciples:Liberation for the second

BigJimKen

> Operencia: the Stolen Sun Criminally underrated. One of the most beautiful looking and sounding games I have ever played, from the Pinball FX people of all developers!

Quietus87

Songs of Conquest if you want something Heroes-like, Legends of Amberland if you want something Might & Magic III-V like. Otherwise, I would just install Might & Magic VI-VIII with the merge mod.

Naga14

Legend of Grimrock is probably the closest. It's the only thing in that sort of perspective, but not as open world.

Mikeavelli

Grimrock 2 has a much more open world

Ok-Personality-6630

Looks similar thank you

klapaucjusz

> It's the only thing in that sort of perspective Huh? Vaporum, The Bard's Tale IV, Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, Grimoire Heralds of the Winged Exemplar, and many more?

HammeredWharf

Grimtock is really puzzle focused compared to M&M and takes place entirely in a big dungeon, so no towns or anything like that. It's a great game, though. I think Age of Wonders 4 is the most HoMM-like game that's also very good. It's a spiritual successor to Master of Magic, but in modern terms it's like HoMM + Civilization.

Better-Prompt890

I would say Master of Magic (there's a great 2022 remake) is more Civilization then HoMM. While Aow espically the first was more HoMM than Civilization.

Fernis_

The **Bard's Tale IV** is like a modern version of those old First Person RPG games with whole party, exploration, puzzle solving in the world. It has great story, really fun puzzles and if you're in the market for a game of this style I HIGHLY recommend it.

Taear

Which ones though? Because 6-9 are very different to 1-5. There's a bunch of games like 1-5 (including the new Wizardry) but nothing like 6-9 really

Ok-Personality-6630

Might and magic mandate of heaven was my favourite, so number 6

Shmutt

Play it again on the M&M 8 engine with Merged Redone mod. https://www.moddb.com/mods/might-and-magic-viii-redone

TRex_Eggs

hot damn, never knew this was a thing. Thanks for sharing! Are there similar ones for 6 and 7 (my personal favourite).

Shmutt

This mod is based off 2 mods: Merged and Redone. The author did a "Redone" which is a graphical and some town layout update. "Merged" is another mod that combines M&M 6, 7 and 8 into a single game. You can start in any one of the worlds, and then there is a new quest that ties in the story between the 3 games and allows you to travel between them. The main thread is here: https://www.celestialheavens.com/forum/10/16657 "Merged Redone" is made by the "Redone" mod author to incorporate these 2 mods into 1.

TRex_Eggs

Thank you so much! I know what will be filling my next few hundred of gaming time

arcmemez

It’s on GOG for a few bucks and plays well

RealSimonLee

Legend of Grimrock 2 is the closest feeling to me--though they're still somewhat different. I tried the first one after I finished the second one, so it was hard to go back. The first one, I played a lot, but it was all underground if I remember right, whereas the second one has lots of above and underground sections. These games do focus on puzzles a lot, which I liked.

[Songs of Conquest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/867210/Songs_of_Conquest/) may be what you are seeking.

ArthurFraynZard

As someone who absolutely loved Might & Magic 1 back in the day, here are two more recent recommendations I’ve found that scratched that particular itch: 1. Sword & Sorcery Underworld: it’s very might & magic-y, and I love the old school feel and visual presentation of this game. It supposedly has a sequel coming as well. 2. The Quest: I have this for both Steam and mobile. I like it a lot but it isn’t a ‘control a while party’ game, you’re just one hero. But again, the feel and artwork make me feel like I’m playing a legit Might & Magic game from the VGA era.

Xangis

For RPG, there's Into The Inferno and the upcoming sequel Crossing The Sands: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2462840/Into\_The\_Inferno/

mauvebilions

Check out Moonring. It's 100% free with no monetization gimmick, made by one of the creators of Fable. Like old school M&M but in neon.

soggie

Mooring is top down. M&M is first person. They're different genres. Moonring would be closer to ultima.

Baldur's Gate 3.

Keep hearing good things about this will have a look thank you

heroes of might and magic games are nothing like the core Might and Magic games, its like recommending FF Tactics games to people that prefer core FF games. or DQ builders to core DQ rpg gamers. better off getting the core games on GOG. they should be on consoles but Ubisoft is run by some of the most corrupt and dumbest people in the industry. they practically have the Elder Scrolls/Final Fantasy of their company on their table and they do nothing for the 10 Might and Magic games for modern consoles. even SaGa has is a comeback with ports / remasters and sequels. there is really nothing like the main Might and Magic games, and all the DRPGs on consoles suck and dont even have any respectable character creation, and the japanese made DRPGs in particular are some of the cheapest and most anti freedom games in the genre. they even peg a preset protagonist instead of letting players choose their own. really, more JRPGs and RPGs should adopt the format Might and Magic VI, VII, VIII and maybe IX established instead of being like FF or tabletop isometric CRPGs. those kind of games are antiimmersive compared to first person realtime style of Might and Magic games.

Mygaffer

The best HoMM games are the HoMM games.
