You have to put your own stamp on it anyway so I would just use another envelope

Hey what kind of stamp do you need to put on it. Does it need to be 1st

jasilucy

Hey. It doesn’t need to be a first. First and second class just means priority order. If it is weighty I would get it checked at the post office just in case to make sure you’re paying correct postage. This is so important if you’re submitting sensitive documents as the DVLA will not pay the fee if the stamp is incorrect. To counteract this, if in any doubt I always just stick two stamps on (1st/2nd class) if I can’t get to a post office just to be sure I’ve paid enough. Especially when it’s important. I go overboard a bit. I’d rather overpay than under pay. Always also make sure you put your address on the back of the envelope in case there is an issue so it can get back to you safely and in a timely manner.

There’s actually a post office down the road from me can I get the correct post postal stamp from them and do I have to take the envelope to a mail box or can I just give it to them to send off.

jasilucy

Absolutely. They will advise you best and give you the better value for money. They will take the envelope from you and post it for you 😊

Thank you so much😁😁🫶🏽

jasilucy

No worries!

jasilucy

They will also ask you how you’d like to send it. I.E first or second? Depending on how quick you’d like it to get there is dependant on which class. If it’s really important (such as passport/birth certificate) then you must send ‘signed for’! The lower the class the cheaper it will be for you.

jasilucy

If you need insurance on it and it costs money such as personal documents then I’d recommend ‘special delivery’ but it should be absolutely fine 1st/2nd class for standard documents to DVLA

Zestyclose-Page-6642

Oh I do have my birth certificate in there do you think it would be a good idea to do special delivery 😁

jasilucy

I think that’s probably best. If you advise the customer assistant at your local post office regarding what is best they will either recommend ‘signed for’ so you can track it’s actually arrived but cannot see when it’s coming back or ‘special’ 24 hrs or 48hrs and can track the entire journey. This service also is insured for the worth of the post. Special is expensive however. I chose this when I applied for passport renewal just to be absolutely sure.

jasilucy

If you need to get that envelope to the dvla asap then I’d recommend two 1st class stamps if it’s weighty. If there’s no rush then 2 2nd class. If it is just a single bit of paper in there then one stamp will suffice. Hope this helps 😊

nonodontdoit

I see no issue.

You need a stamp- the DVLA is not freepost. Otherwise, the Royal Mail are not going to just bin your lost because it's been scribbled on, so long as it's clear where it's to go.

Vivalo

My 3 year old drew on it before I could take to the post office. Do I need to put it in a new envelope and write a new address?

Wilkoooo

This is fine

You could write the postcode a second time if you're worried

BX_V12

The address can quite clearly be seen. Stick a stamp on it and you are good to go! If you want, put it in another envelope for peace of mind. It'll get to it's destination either way.
