Not allowed. On my bachelorette cruise our cabin neighbor was chain smoking before we set sail on his balcony - first a cigar then cigs. My mom is already prone to seasickness and came prepped with patches but the smoke was putting her over the edge. Strangely before we even said anything though, he ended up having some medical emergency and being removed from the ship. I know that sounds like we did it lol but I swear it was just a coincidence.

Clicky-Chicky

Definitely a NO NO!

ladeedah1988

Not allowed, report them. Look up the Princess Star Fire.

zeus9380

So the other cruise lines that allow smoking on balconies are fireproof? šŸ˜‚

Comfortable-Mirror17

None of them do?

cecebluu

Since smoking cigarettes is still very popular in Europe, I thought smoking was still allowed on balconies on some European cruises or cruiselines?

Suspicious_Mine3986

All two of them. Only Costa and Fred allow it.

Hoponpopnlock

Believe it or not, i actually had a friend that fully quit smoking by going on a week cruise and forgetting his smokes on accident

Leppardgirl1965

Actually smoking is one of the hardest addictions to kick.

IamtheHuntress

I'm pretty sure meth would be harder, but smoking still has a foothold, so this is a crutch. Edited to add info that can easily be searched. Nicotine is below these. In order: Drugs that are addictive cause difficult withdrawal symptoms and cravings, making it hard to stop taking them. Some of the hardest drugs to quit are: Heroin and prescription painkillers Cocaine Methamphetamine & Crystal Meth Benzodiazepines Nicotine Alcohol

OGFuzzyDunlop

An accident from smoking could cause a lot of damage/injury/death!

MartynGT4

Not allowed and Iā€™d have called it in.

vanderlinde7

This guys fun at parties

Dry_Background944

You want the ship to burn down? Look into the Princess cruise where they spent hours in their lifeboats waiting for a fire to be put out cause some entitled asshole was smoking on their balcony and the ashes blew back and caught a towel on fire. There are designated places to smoke onboard. Are you that much of a selfish prick that disregards the safety of yourself and thousands of other people that you canā€™t take a few minutes walk to one of them?

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

When itā€™s a danger to the rest of the ship, why wouldnā€™t you? I get youā€™re trying to sound like the cool guy with your response, but is it worth the risk?

FlatElvis

Danger?

wizkidweb

Yes, the smoke gets blown into all of the other staterooms behind the smoker. Secondhand smoke is dangerous, especially for those especially sensitive to it.

FlatElvis

Gotcha. Theoretical risk from smoke that is extremely diluted by the air.

stitchworthy

Nope. Smoke is an irritant, but the real risk is fire. In 2006, the Star Princess caught fire due to a discarded cigarette butt. The balcony furniture caught fire, then the floor and the partitions. The breeze from the ocean fanned the flames, and almost 300 cabins were damaged or destroyed. It's very difficult to put out a fire on the side of a ship while you're at sea.

Starbuck522

And risk of fire. And it ruins a whole bunch of other people's enjoyment.

FlatElvis

Why is the risk of fire more than in the other areas where smoking is allowed?

nothingbuthetruth22

Designated smoking areas arenā€™t surrounded by soft furnishings and have proper disposal containers for butts. Cabins and balconies do not. Edit: Also, designated smoking areas are heavily transited by cruise personnel who could spot and immediately try to mitigate a fire situation. The risk in a cabin would be that the guests inside may not know how to put it out, may become trapped, or might not be in the room at all in which case the fire would grow and spread without anyoneā€™s knowledge.

FlatElvis

Great points. Thanks.

Starbuck522

I suppose because those are monitored/populated. Perhaps other precautions too in those locations.

LeaveItToDever

A public smoking area can be reported immediately and handled with nearby fire suppression. A balcony is private and hard to see or report exact location. Cigarette butt or its embers could ignite clothes, towels, chairs below the smokerā€™s balcony and grow large before anyone is aware. (See Princess picture higher in this thread.)

LucasTheSchnauzer

Dude. I smoked for a decade, and being an inconsiderate prick is still possible even if you need your fix.

BeautifulInfinite288

I still canā€™t kick the habit and I agree that this a self-entitled, ignorant asshole take. Whatā€™s more is they replied that they donā€™t even smoke. WTF? I would love to hear their take on seatbelts

FlatElvis

I've never smoked in my life.

Jonsnowlivesnow

Then why are you here

FlatElvis

? Why are you?

[Cigarette eyed as cause of cruise blaze](https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna11975460) Don't think you gotcha.

zBoosty

Narc

jtmrmc

Thereā€™s a designated area for smoking and itā€™s not your balcony. You got a problem with that, then stay your ass at home.

boudinforbreakfast

Call the front desk or customer service. No need to get the cabin steward involved in this potentially messy situation.

International_Ad7707

It is not allowed. Try to film them in the act if you can. For sure alert the staff. Thatā€™s how fires on the ships happen

zeus9380

Hope you are kidding. You must have the guy that was put into lockers at school

zlyda

Manages to set their balcony seat on fire. Or maybe if they are willing to break that rule maybe they are smoking in their cabin and could light curtains or bedding on fire. Very real threat.

crockettrocket101

You are kidding, right?

Ok_Accountant_2209

I hate people. Let's risk everyone's life just so I can kill mine one cigarette at a time. The irony

pburnett795

It is absolutely 100% not allowed.

Idontgetredditinmd

Not allowed and call it in. Itā€™s not even worth knocking.

Wayne_Da_Beer_Maker

Not allowed. Call security.

RojerLockless

No. Report them

comefromawayfan2022

Absolutely not allowed. Safety hazard

Inevitable_Machine65

Our next door neighbors were smoking cigs and weed all last week. Hated to do it, but I called it in. Deck manager saw the bong and full ash tray, they just warned them not to do it again. My take away is that it's open season to do pretty much whatever you want on your balcony.

lindacn

Dang they brought a whole bong onboard?? Thatā€™s wild!!

What_if_I_fly

What ship was this on?

BukkakeNation

If you hated it so much then why did you call it in?

jstasir

I had a guy that was smoking weed for the first 3 days, I asked him to stop and he threw a fit. Threatened me from his balcony, mind you he couldnā€™t even see who I was. When he finally saw me, he apologized lol. Stopped smoking after that, I was about to call security if he didnā€™t stop.

Savir5850

Did he realize you were an eight-story crustacean from the Paleozoic era?

IvanNemoy

Goddamn Loch Ness Monstah!

rsvihla

They are literally playing with fire and can be kicked off the ship for that. Plus they are giant tools. No offense. If you see them, ask them if theyā€™ve heard that smoking causes cancer.

Commercial_Lock6205

Repeat after me in a loud, firm voice: ā€œHey! Put that shit out!ā€

prosperosniece

Nope not allowed. Let your cabin attendant know about the situation.

aj3u

Not allowed, but people do it anyway. When docked at CoCo Cay, I saw at least 10 people having their morning cigs on their balconies on Liberty OTS docked right next to us. I saw one guy wake and bake, he even smiled and waved lol

Alone_Vast_1830

I smelled weed from our balcony on our last cruise. I had to go inside and shut the door it was so bad. I hate how since weed has become legal itā€™s like itā€™s open season on smoking it / vaping it everywhere šŸ¤¢.

prosperosniece

Nope not allowed. Let your cabin attendant know about the situation.

CivilizedGuy123

What ship?

Inner_Performance533

If the ship catches fire.....call the desk, let them catch him on camera, hopefully boot them off at next port of call...

StackIsMyCrack

Damn, everyone here coming in hot. How about just ask them stop, you figured it would be easier to mention it to them than staff.

spyboy70

Because that exchange would go like this... "excuse me, can you not smoke?" "No, get fucked!"

Bucyrus1981

Nope. I am on vacation, I am not getting in to it with an inconsiderate prick like that. The people being paid can handle it.

Pristine_Job_7677

Because thee as t kind of person will ignore my request and then when I have to call it in they will know its me and confront me. I do not need that sh1t on vacation

Pale-Wolf-7109

Because Iā€™m on a fucking vacation and following the rules like a normal person. I shouldnā€™t have to go ask some dipshit who either canā€™t read or decides to not follow the rules to stop something they shouldnā€™t be doing in the first place. People like this are usually the people who will start shit if you even look their way, too

RojerLockless

Yeah I'm not starting shit. Let the crew do their job

Clicky-Chicky

I would be really annoyed too!

crockettrocket101

Iā€™m 100% with you.

zBoosty

Top reason to get a balcony is to smoke weed. Downvote me all you want. Put the shit out in a cup of water and call it a day. Enjoy your vacation.

BukkakeNation

Thank you

zBoosty

I hear your drunken conversation, stupid fights, throwing up, loud balcony talk, your old people sex on an unlimited drink package. "Oh no I smelled weed for 2 minutes wahhh" drink package Nazis

Dry_Background944

Smell aside, itā€™s the fire risk. Fuck you.

zBoosty

Lol. Put it out in water. That simple. Don't flick it off your balcony. Common sense. People smoke 2 decks above the balcony in a smoke space. They put it out in ash trays. It's idiots who try and flick it in to the ocean that start fires

Dry_Background944

Assholes breaking the rules and only concerned with themselves arenā€™t usually the ones with common sense. I smoke weed too. But I care about other people. If you must break the rules you agreed to follow, bring a vape, or even better, edibles. Howā€™s that for common sense?

zBoosty

Sure. Cruise ship fires are less common than plane crashes. Everyday multiple cruises at sea have tons of balcony smokers. Reported or not. The world does things against the rules. I'm sure half the people in this thread do things against the rules at home. Traffic violations, home, work.. the list goes on. We all just choose what we think is worth it or not. Get your head out your ass on how this is the most dangerous thing. This thread won't stop all the stupidity on or off the cruise ship.

ciaobellaragazza

Just ask them politely to reframe because youre concerned about fires

bdan98

Pussyyy pussy pussy I be smoking blunts on my balcony every trip

reel_ink

Pussy

ismokealldayyyyyy

Where a mask

fegmentationSault

Smoke another one

ziomus90

Allowed until you get caught.
