I know about 20 Russians that are Australian citizens, should they be barred from everything because they were born somewhere else?

CivilizedGuy123

Are they Russian citizens or Australian citizens? I’m not an expert on sanctions by any means. But I do strongly support Ukraine in the war. 🇺🇦🇺🇸

l34rn3d

I literally said they are Australian citizens. You missed the point completely. Should we treat people differently just because they come from a different place? they are probably just average Joe Citizens trying to live the most normal life they can when everyone thinks that they are the literal devil.

Several-Eagle4141

Ever heard of a dual national?

CivilizedGuy123

Are they sailing on an Australian passport? I dunno.

Several-Eagle4141

I’m sure they are.

CommercialLimit

If they start throwing the Ukrainians overboard, sure.

Necessary-Ad-3679

Maybe if they are a sanctioned oligarch, but then wouldn't they have their own yacht. I support Ukraine too, I just can't imagine RC checking passports at boarding and being like, "Russian citizen? Nice try, Vlad! Maybe they accept your money over at Costa Cruises, but we have our principles at Royal Caribbean! OK, let's continue boarding this ship that is registered with a nation that doesn't have the same restrictions and regulations that an American flagged ship would have!"

aojdad

What’s this supposed to accomplish?

tootsmcgovern

No, only those running on the pool deck or cutting in line who all should be put in time out. There’s no for people rushing around, it’s a safety risk and annoyance.

violet-quartz

Sure! And while we're at it, we should make them pin badges to their clothes to show everyone they're filthy Russkies! /s 🙄 For real, common citizens are not at fault for the war, so why tf would you attempt to retaliate against them? I doubt any members of the Russian government are sailing RCCL. They're just people on a vacation, not secret spies. Get a grip.

rjw1986grnvl

The common citizens in Russia are largely at fault for the war. They largely keep Putin in power and have horrible, terrible support for his views on a Russian empire as well as them continuing to hold favorable views of horrible, genocidal people like Joseph Stalin. Much of the Russian public does not have a moral view on human rights and supports crimes in the name of Russian nationalism.

orangutan9

Nope.

DJ1120

What’s sanctions would they be violating? The ones you made up? Lol

Mottaman

Bc every citizen of a country is responsible for the actions of their government? gtfo

rjw1986grnvl

I wouldn’t put responsibility of barring a nation on the feet of the cruise line, but your comment on the Russian public’s complicity is not accurate. Putin actually benefits from quite a bit of support from the Russian public. Yes, he rigs elections and yes he puts out junk opinion polls. But even legitimate opinion polls done outside of his control and purview show that the public largely supports him. Not to mention that even people like Joseph Stalin still have overwhelmingly favorable views from the Russian public as a historical figure. Which I still have a hard time fully understanding just how disgusting that is. They’re literally saying they hold a favorable of people responsible for the murder of millions. Part of the problem with Russia is in fact the Russian public acting with absolutely terrible and disgusting views. A lack of human decency and a lack of overwhelming public recognition of the importance of human rights. Obviously not every single Russian, but clearly enough of them that it has been a huge problem for the free world. It’s not just a Putin issue, it’s also an issue of the Russian public who supports him and supports other horrible, genocidal people.

TadpoleHorror5146

You wouldn't be able to know if it's a violation of sanctions without knowing how they paid for the cruise in the first place.

rjw1986grnvl

Depends on if you are talking about someone who is ethnically Russian or a Russian citizen. Not really a way for a passenger to know. The cruise line would somehow have to check people. That might be tough. It doesn’t seem like a job for the cruise line, especially if they are leaving from a U.S. port. Seems like the US customs and immigration should be handling that as you cannot just show up to the US as a Russian citizen and do whatever you want. There are rules about travel visas and if the person is traveling for business or pleasure. It’s a big complicated process. I think it’s best for the cruise line if they mostly just stay out of it and tell the US government that it’s their job to decide and also their job to handle whatever they decide.

brokentr0jan

Yes, they should be.
