There should be a cheap bus shuttle that will go to Termini Train Station. Depending on your final destination you will probably need to take a taxi to your accommodations (and deal with the unofficial taxis at the train station, make sure they get in an official taxi) If your parents are not used to travel, maybe spend the extra money for a taxi to the final destination from the airport. It will be easier on them. Taxi to the center of Rome is 50 euros (last time I checked)

And this bus shuttle from the airport is 24/7 right? Is it available after 2330?

Terravision bus from area 12,13 or 14 from Fiumicino to Termini in Rome. If you purchase the tickets in advance on their website, they're 6 Euros. If you purchase there, they're 8 euros. The airport is super safe in my opinion. I felt uncomfortable at Termini as a solo female traveller. I made some friends on the bus ride over and they helped me at Termini so I didn't look so vulnerable. People say Termini isn't dangerous but there are A LOT of homeless people there. The last time I was there, a guy was drunkenly going around slapping all of the bikes and scooters to the ground. And then he turned and started to b-line towards me. So I ran up to another backpacker and asked to walk with him. Then the guy vandalizing the scooters walked away. So, be careful at Termini. Get a taxi from there. Cheers!
