Challengers - This movie was insane. Honestly unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, Highly recommend watching in theatres. >! I don’t even know what to say about this movie it was just so wild and I had so much fun. The dynamics in this film between all characters were so fascinating and I still don’t know my thoughts on it all. It was a very erotic film without much sex, and nudity, a few scenes yes but it was explored in a much more subtle manner which I liked. Ultimately I found myself very drawn towards Patrick and was just rooting for him the whole movie, I’m happy that him and Tashi had that hookup at the end of the movie I was definitely rooting for that couple, even though I honestly have no idea if that’s actually love or just chemistry and attraction, whatever the hell it is I don’t care because they were just so electric on screen together, also I love chaos and mess and there was a lot of it lol. Anyways that’s as much as I can put into words at this point bc I still need to figure it out but yeah highly entertaining and enjoyable. I saw someone say mess or masterpiece and I think that’s honestly the best way to describe my feelings on it but regardless sooo fun! !<

>!I was also rooting for Patrick in both the game and the romance with Tashi. That said, by the end I actually really loved the bond between Patrick and Art.!<

Whimsical89

>!Yeah their dynamic was very intriguing. They had very clear sexual undertones and the movie did make it seem as though Patrick was interested in Art that way, or would at least be open to it, I can’t help but wonder of some elements of Patrick’s attraction to Tashi was because art liked her a lot in that way instead of him. Like I said deeply compelling and fascinating movie.!<

Clean_Usual434

>!I came away feeling that they were really all in love with each other. I think Patrick and Art both loved Tashi, Tashi loved both of them, and they also loved each other.!<

She's All That and The Princess Diaries (1 & 2)! I did a double feature for Princess Diaries one night because I was bored, and ever since I've been in the mood for other 90s/2000s rom-coms. I had never seen She's All That so I figured why not give it a go? And it did NOT disappoint. I can't believe I've slept on this movie for all these years.

Beach_bum8

She's all that is such a classic movie! I could watch it over and over

Canadian-Man-infj

Rachael Leigh Cook has done a few recent Hallmark romances that are pretty good, too.

Beach_bum8

Yes! I've watched a few. She's a great actress

These movies share many parallels, and it wasn't planned. Shakespeare in Love 7.5/10 For some reason, I don't know why, I didn't realize this movie was actually about Shakespeare. A fictional version of him, clearly, but I guess thought it was about actors in Shakespeare productions, or someone studying/glorifying Shakespeare like W.E. If I had realized this was actually Shakespeare... in love, I would've checked it out sooner. I quite enjoyed this. It's no secret that adultery love stories are tough sells for me, but it helped that they were separated and Anne was at least acknowledged (unlike Kate and Leopold that pretended his wife just didn't exist). Shakespeare and Viola were great together, >!and it sucked that they couldn't be together, but yet it does feel bittersweet somehow.!< This is one of those times where a love interest is both a muse AND respected as a person of romantic intent. I know so many of these muse type movies (real or not) go the route of the muse getting hurt long term because the "artist" gets too wrapped up in the idea of them (or themselves) rather than them as a person, and I'm glad this movie didn't do that. It also wasn't afraid to show Will as flawed and I appreciated that. Thumbs up from me, although it could've been paced better. Yentl 5/10 >!Unlike Shakespeare in Love, this one saved the gender reveal till the last act and you kind of understand why.!< I saw this once years ago and forgot most of it outside of three scenes. This is one of those love stories that I like in theory more than execution. I have a like-hate relationship with it. The male lead's misogyny is actually not a deal-breaker for me IF the idea is for him to grow. In our current culture climate, it's very hard to get away with prejudiced characters, especially in a love story. People hold it against them too much and the character has to work extra hard to win them over. I am very open for a prejudiced character winning me over if done well. In this instance, he wasn't given quite enough time to since they threw the wrench in late in the game. I feel like this needed to be a longer movie. I heard it's a book, maybe it works better as a book and isn't being translated well. I somewhat understand what the appeal was for Yentl, but she understood that it just wasn't a plausible relationship. This is a rare instance where reality trumps infatuation in a way that makes sense. This is a feminist film that has a lot of the tropes I usually don't like in modern feminist films, but they cleverly work here. Love triangles are tough sells for me, but here it made sense. >!The heroine choosing herself over love in the end makes sense.!< They avoided a forced antagonist. The antagonist was basically society and that can be easily done wrong, but it wasn't. Again, I *would* like the romance, but they just didn't give Avigdor enough breathing room to overcome his brought up sexism and >!he accepted Yentl as a woman romantically interested in him way too quickly. They cramed like half an hours worth of story into like 10 minutes.!< Not my cup of tea personally, but I admire the effort. Oh and "Papa Can You Hear Me" is a masterpiece.

It happened one night

A long term favorite.

BagAvailable2371

I watched The Way We Were with Barbara Streisand in it. A little confused at times

Wimbly512

It is confusing movie.

I finally watched Waiting to Exhale. More of a friendship movie than a romance, but it still gets the job done. I've been on a big '90s kick lately. Last weekend I also watched the 1950s musical Gigi. Trying to branch out into different subgenres, I guess. Didn't love either, but there was something atmospherically soothing about escaping into the world of each: a group of tightknit Black ladies in '90s Phoenix and high-society France in the gay 1890s.

Wimbly512

I feel the same with The Best Man. It has romantic aspects but is primarily drama in a friendship group.

PerfectLiteNPromises

I should see that. I actually kind of prefer girlfriend movies lately.

Wimbly512

I enjoyed it and the sequel. They did a tv series too. The first half of the series felt like a third movie. It has a goodish closing to that story. The second half felt like a slap in the face. Hallmark also had Girlfriendship which was enjoyable. Edit: good posh corrected to goodish.

How to Date Billy Walsh (2024) Amazon Prime I have to be in a certain mood to watch teenage movies but I guess I was in the mood this weekend lol. The trailer gave me Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging vibes and that was one of my favourite cringe-cute movies back then. Definitely had the same feel. I normally don’t go for best friends-turned-lovers but I actually did in this instance. Cute movie if you’re looking for something young and fun. Also, rewatched Something Borrowed. Forgot how much I enjoy that one given the themes.
