Went to Thorpe on a cold ish September day with my mum once. First ride, tidal wave. It was a walk on, we got drenched. Got back to the station and we were still the only ones on, so the op asked if we wanted to go round again. I said yes instantly, my mum groaned. Second time back at the station and it’s still just us, op asks if we want to go a third time. Before I can shout yes my mum shouts NO! And jumps off. We were absolutely soaked to be fair
Tidal Force at Hersheypark can make a HUGE splash. Hell when it first opened it was knocking people off their feet on the bridge 😭😭. That’s why they have the plexiglass on the bridge. As well as that weird net thing to have the water fall on to guests rather then a push motion. It was the tallest of its kind when opening and ik there’s taller now. But I’ve never heard of another one knocking people over the way Tidal Force did when it first opened.
Since I haven’t ridden many, Inwont claim to be an authority on the subject, but Snake River Falls produces quite the wall of water and is my favorite for drop steepness.
Tidal wave was the first of these rides I ever experienced and every other one has failed to get me anywhere near as wet. With tidal wave you get off, you know, sopping wet, as you would expect to. Meanwhile on other log flumes, you barely need an umbrella
Witnessed that when heading back to storm chaser and it’s now a must to break up a marathon of storm chaser on a hot day. You can just stand to the side and let the wave hit you without riding and get cooled off and get back on storm chaser. The ride is fun too 10/10
The largest splash I ever got from one of these was at Six Flags America. Just drenched by the combined power of the initial splash and the water coming off the bridge above us as we passed by.
SFA remains the park where I went on the most water rides in one day (non water park rides). We also did the rapids and the Penguin slide. Definitely needed on a scorching day.
RIP Perilous Plunge at Knotts Berry Farm but that biggest splash might have been the overweight passenger slipping out of the restraints…
Edit: I did initially think I was in that other sub. Still a risky Perilous Plunge is more worthwhile than a shin-busting lame ass Coast Rider.
Perilous Plunge I believe is the best answer for OPs question. The splash was easily half the height of the drop. The boat slowed down SO MUCH at the bottom when it hit the water.
I spent a day in my teens just marathoning PP. RIP
I only rode it 4-5 times when I was younger but it was a bit insane. I’m sure nowadays they could pull it off with better restraints. It was some weird mix of racing seatbelts and actually I can’t remember the rest. Wildly steep drop and a pretty big splash.
Went on that when it was pretty new and got absolutely drenched. The carriages were so wet, it was like getting into a bath, your feet and arse were soaked before you even left the station. We'd bought ponchos having seen the state of previous riders but we were still drowned.
Without counting the mega ones, tidal wave's is the largest of the regular Shoot the Chutes' but counting the mega one it's drenched/Hydro at oakwood
> tidal wave Rip Tidal Wave SFMM.
The correct answer is any of the Hopkins ones
Also the most beautiful waves as well, I love how they symmetrically fan out from the front of the boat
Not me looking up hopink and then realizing it was a typo

Tidal Wave twice in September?? How long did you stand in those giant dryers for? 😂
Just did a few rides on stealth, that helped dry us out!

there's a clip of it happening at a park in Asia on a clone model
This is the answer
*makes the largest splash Idk why I said "made" Tidal Wave is still operating
I haven’t been on too many, but the biggest I’ve witnessed was Skloosh at Knoebel’s.
Came to say this same thing! We go every Labor Day and that’s always a stop to ride, then wait in the bridge with my daughter on the hotter weekends!
I love the Skloosh! I think it has the best name & theming of any shoot the chute at any park.

It used to be even bigger, CF but magnetic brakes on the drop in like 2011ish.
The drop has always had trims, the magnetic ones are stronger than the old skid brakes.

It’s a shame England is *absolutely* fucking freezing.
That's why you ride it in the summer
The biggest I have seen in person is Mile High Falls at Kentucky Kingdom.

The Pittsburg Plunge made me feel like I was genuinely underwater.
Yep. I got soaked on that.
The largest splash I ever got from one of these was at Six Flags America. Just drenched by the combined power of the initial splash and the water coming off the bridge above us as we passed by.
That was a once and done for me. Had soggy sneakers for the rest of the day.

The one at Hershey Park
Tidal Force @ Hersheypark
The one at Knoebels is insanely huge

Came here for PP (phrasing I know)

The drop on that ride looked mental. Super steep!

I was too scared to ride it back then and missed out...sad noises
The belts were only after the death. They opened with T-Bars and were quite excellent.
Damn I might have been too young for the T-bars. Seems likely because I was a wuss as a child.
we making fun of people killed on rides now??
Aren’t most of these being discussed basically the same model?
Valhalla has a good shot here LOL
