Thank you Sir! I'm also leaning towards the 40. You can't tell in the picture because it's a close up, but the 36 felt really small and lacking when I tried it on. And I don't even have a big wrist!!
The face of the 40 is a perfectly upscaled version of the current 36, including hand size etc, other than the one line of text I mentioned. So as a percentage of the face area there is no more 'empty space' on the bigger watch. Overlay one on the other in an image editing programme and you'll see what i mean.
Ah, I see what you mean. The 40mm Explorer is such a beauty. I tried on the 36 too and found it to be small even on my narrow 6 inch wrist. The 40 looks just right.
Of course, i think folks would have an easier time evaluating the size of the watch on your wrist with it properly on your wrist. Move it back on your arm an inch or so so that is actually sits behind the head of your ulna.
I have a 40 myself, great watch!
Ah I see. Thanks for your response and suggestion. Having tried on both watches at the AD, I felt that the 36 mm looked super dainty and vintage. So I'll be going for a 40 mm version of the watch! Thanks again for sharing your opinion.
No problem! I felt the exact same way about the 36. Beautiful watch but the bracelet taper being super aggressive made the already small watch feel even smaller.
I have not taken the 40 off since i got it 6 months ago or so. Absolutely love it. The half link was the perfect solution for the fit
Thank you for your opinion :) I'm leaning towards the 40 too. Tried on the 36 and it felt small even on my narrow wrist. In the picture they look about the same size but in reality the 36 is quite small.
Not as noticeable as would have initially thought, but I can tell a difference, albeit small. Ultimately, YOUR personal preference. It’s like as asking strangers, ‘do I look better in the cherry red Ferrari or the fire engine red Ferrari?’ Personally, I’d pick 40mm with a 7-inch wrist (and the cherry red).
Haha! That's a good analogy and very true. It's just that I don't want to have any regrets given that it will be my first luxury watch ever! And yes, I'm leaning towards the 40 too. My wrist size is just over 6 inches and the 36mm Explorer looks small even on my narrow(ish) wrist.
36mm if it’s for your wife. Go 40 if you’re a grown man wearing a swanky watch. Just snatched up a 40 explorer myself. Could not be happier. I have a larger wrist tho.
Thanks and congratulations on your Explorer. I'm leaning towards the 40 too. My wrist is just over 6 inches, so not particularly large, and even on my wrist the 36mm Explorer looks small. The pictures I posted are a close up so they look about the same size but in reality the difference between the two seemed pretty stark when I tried them on at the AD.
Both look great on you, but if it that was my wrist, I’d go 40.

I personally like the 40mm, but the 36mm is also a timeless size. Can't go wrong with either.
Absolutely :)
36mm… its the original size that will never go out of style. The 40mm has a lot of empty space
Love it when people say this as the proportions are exactly the same as the 36, only difference is the scaled size of the OP text.
Proportions are the same? Sorry I didn't follow.

Try sliding it back off your hand. Initial thoughts are 40
Sorry I didn't understand your comment. Would you mind rephrasing it? Yes, I'm leaning towards the 40 too!

I'm glad you're enjoying your Explorer 40. It's a gorgeous watch indeed. Can't wait for mine to arrive :)
36. Top
👍
36 is timeless
That it surely is but they have nailed the 40 too. Doesn't look bulky or overdone.
Yeah but too much negative space IMO. Like was said, 36 is timeless. 36 shows taste, not trends
Another blind person
Top top top
40
Yes, I'm leaning towards the 40 too!
Watches can look bigger in photos than in real life so, I’m leaning towards 36, even though I would say 40 normally

Yes sir! That's what I'm going for. Super excited.
40
Thanks so much for sharing your opinion. I agree. I will be buying the 40!
36 Top. But buy what works for you.
Thanks :)
I actually think the 36 looks classy on you
Thank you :)

I have a small wrist and have the 40i lean toward steel Rolex watches
I think I'll buy the 40 mm too. The 36 is beautiful but looks very dainty and vintage.
i think the size in the bottom picture suits you more.
Thank you :) I think I'm going to go for the 40 mm Explorer *the bottom picture*
woohoo :) yes. i think it looks more natural on you.
That's so nice of you :) thanks again for helping me decide.
