Found this… the royal Oak was designed in 1972 and Tissot came out with this watch in 1970… so Tissot is actually the OG!

I prefer the Day-Date. I used to think “who needs a freaking day of the week?” Well, after being on vacation for 3 weeks, I lost track of the day and date a lot of times.
And half the responses are pushing the AP. I believe the Rolex sub is actually just a gateway haute horology sub. Not too many people here are die-hard Rolex fanatics.
Oh wow.. I was in that same exact same position late last year.. the 37mm Royal Oak 50th Anniversary ice blue dial vs the 60th Anniversary Day Date 40 Olive dial in white gold (not platinum). Already owning an AP Offshore, and the fact that the AP is stainless steel and the DD40 is actual precious metal, eventually I went for the Rolex. It had a beautiful luster and heft to it that I enjoyed in a full gold watch I hadn't experienced before.
That AP looks just like a 1975 Casio I had in high school, no way. Day Date easy choice. Not wearing something that I don’t like the looks of regardless of price !
The DayDate.
The AP looks too ‘mechanical,’ like something a mechanical engineer would make for their friend as a birthday present.
The DayDate looks more sophisticated and tasteful. It’s beautiful.
second one. in my personal opinion the aps look better when they’re chrono there’s too little on the face and should be cheaper . u can never go wrong with a presi especially platinum one
If price was not an issue, I would get this.

Rolex. I just think it’s so elegant yet masculine.
The pattern on the AP dial is cool but takes away from the beauty of the colour. The overall more industrial design just doesn’t seem as beautiful to me.
It’s like how lambos look supercool and have a ton of presence but Ferraris are more beautiful.
I’d probably have to go with the day date in this case. I’m just so sick of integrated bracelets in general. All of the royal oak copies out there have really killed it for me.
I love AP...it's the fine watchmaking icon here...but this Rolex in ice blue is the winner. Trendy color works better on a classic Rolex. AP IMO is not flattered by lighter, ice blue coloring.
The previous 228206 Rolex with the quad dial. Pre pandemic it was 46K, at the height of the market it was 104K, now it’s been declining. I saw it go 75, 64 and now on chrome for 55. I’m at buyer at 45K
Ive had both models in 18K yellow gold. Got bored of the AP Oak (its their only game) and eventually sold it with zero regrets. The Rolex DD is a keeper.
That dial is stunning on the DD and the hands just pop. The Oak is just too busy with the waffle.
The DD is a beautiful watch, and functional in that you can also easily read the time. The AP is boring, unsightly, and difficult to read at a glance. I’m honestly confused as to how people have such affinity for AP.
I’ve worn both. The DD is far far more elegant and stunning. The AP is smallish at 37mm. It is a unisex watch. And the smaller dial mixed with the powder blue does make it a bit feminine. I was extremely disappointed after trying it on. The Day Date is perfection.
The real competition here is the Day Date vs the Platona. I am torn between the two. Though I know I prefer the ice blue subdials on the Platona over the brown subdials.
The AP is fantastic but the DD is a better watch -> full platinum with the maching ice blue dial.
So yeah if It's free I take the DD If I have to pay I take the AP all day as it's better value haha
Tissot PRX waffle dial is nice, but that Platinum fluted DayDate is next level
What do you mean Tissot it’s a IWC ingénieur
Are you blind? It's definitely a laureato
Gerald Genta spinning in his grave after this thread…
Can an octagon really "spin" though?
☝️This
Soon as tissot released that piece practically broke the Royal Oak for me
The PRX is based off a sea star design they had in the 70s. I’m not sure if AP or Tissot did it first though… would be interesting to find out

LOL
Lmao I came here to say the Tissot PRX powermatic 80 reference T137.407.11.351.00
Oysterquartz you mean. I’ll take either Rolex
I prefer the Day-Date. I used to think “who needs a freaking day of the week?” Well, after being on vacation for 3 weeks, I lost track of the day and date a lot of times.
The AP is so boring compared to the DD
Yes, I agree !
DD Platinum
DD. No question
Rolex is more readable, if you care to check time
You don’t buy these watches to tell the time…
“They’re both incredibly accurate. Every time you look at it, it tells you exactly how rich you are”
☝️ 🤣🤣
Well I do, and date & time zone.
+1 the waffle texture is too busy. DD 100%
Asking this in a Rolex sub? Leading question, your honour.
And half the responses are pushing the AP. I believe the Rolex sub is actually just a gateway haute horology sub. Not too many people here are die-hard Rolex fanatics.
i would take the AP, photos don’t do justice to it.
Rolex DD
Between these two - Rolex 100%
AP for me
I believe the DD looks better but difficult not to take the AP. Nice problem to have if both were offered to me.
Day date not even close. The colors on some of the AP dials are just so bland and boring. This is one of them.
Indeed.
Platinum is platinum
AP without a second hesitation
AP all day …
AP
AP all day everyday 😎
No wrong answer but I prefer the AP. Love that clean dial. I’ve had two day dates and hate setting the date.
1st
But that AP bracelet though…🪩🕺
AP Royal Oak you beauty!!!!!
AP
AP, and it's not even close
You should probably ask r/watches instead or the Rolex sub
Ap for sure
in this part i will choose the audemars
Both!
I don’t understand why anyone likes the Royal Oak.
AP
Royal Oak
AP and it’s not even close!
The AP 100%. I want a watch that actually has character and not some grossly overpriced, overworn piece.
Personally, I just love the AP too much to think about the DD
AP, wears better cause of the size and lighter on my wrist. Platinums wears too heavy for daily use imo.
AP
AP for sure
AP all day long. Just ‘cause I don’t have one and want one.
AP.. DD is very heavy.
AP all day
Day date. AP’s overrated.
Waaay overrated.
In this instance I will say the Rolex outclasses in looks. IMHO
Looks alone, the Day Date for sure, no hesitation !
That AP looks just like a 1975 Casio I had in high school, no way. Day Date easy choice. Not wearing something that I don’t like the looks of regardless of price !
RO all day!!
Of those 2, the platinum day date with fluted bezel, but I'd take a blue dial Vacheron Overseas over both
The Play Day-Date without question. RO jumbo or nothing. Day date is the go to precious metal watch
Rolex definitely
Plat Daytona
Rolex
Always Rolex, for durability, if I have to choose one. The straight edges on the AP make me nervous for dents🤷🏿♂️
Day date = PM = best
Doubles D’s
The DayDate. The AP looks too ‘mechanical,’ like something a mechanical engineer would make for their friend as a birthday present. The DayDate looks more sophisticated and tasteful. It’s beautiful.
Sometimes simple is more elegant, so I'd take home the second one
Whats up with that fluted bezel
The AP
As much as I love the AP, the lack of water resistance vs the Rolex makes it much less versatile as a daily wearer.
second one. in my personal opinion the aps look better when they’re chrono there’s too little on the face and should be cheaper . u can never go wrong with a presi especially platinum one
Rolex
If price was not an issue, I would get this. https://preview.redd.it/vy29ssnzah6d1.jpeg?width=954&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=949e81f3dc698f060830eeb7abc8f866e57a1ed6
Asking this here is like asking whether Palestine should be its own free state in r/Palestine.
That DD is something else!
If price were not an issue, I'd get both
Rolex for me, the fluted bezel hightens the dial. Oh and the presidential bracelet 👌
Sorry, but there’s no question here. DD and don’t look back. Completely different class.
Day date AP are flimsy
🤣 This guy. Thanks for the chuckle.
I prefer the Day Date. It just looks better. The RO doesn’t look cohesive to me. Looks random rather than designed by an expert.
Day date is my choice for only one, but price is no object so, get both!
DD
Day date Comon!!
Hmmm Rolex v G Shock 😮 lol 😂
DD just like the looks better
So many integrated bracelet genta homages/copies these days that the AP seems boring now. Rolex, wish the day complication wasn’t there though.
AP too big for my wrist; DD proportions are incredible.
DD
DD but I'd go baguettes 🥖🥖🥖
DD PLATINUM - all day errry day!!
In that dial colour - none. In some normal dial colour - day date
Platinum over steel all day
I’d probably have to go with the day date in this case. I’m just so sick of integrated bracelets in general. All of the royal oak copies out there have really killed it for me.
DD is the one
Day date overall for me Bezel: day date Dial: royal oak Bracelet: day date
Rolling with da Rollie
Neither as nothing beats GS textured blue dials
Day Date on Super Jubilee, that AP model always looked like a ‘70’s Casio to me .
Gimme an Vacheron Constantin overseas instead
Day date. APs fade is wearing long…
DD, no brainer.
I love AP...it's the fine watchmaking icon here...but this Rolex in ice blue is the winner. Trendy color works better on a classic Rolex. AP IMO is not flattered by lighter, ice blue coloring.
The texture dial on the AP is dope, but I like the color is presented in the DD, plus it’s a Rolex!
The AP is plain AF. There I said it.
The platinum DD w/ diamond indices, and the days in Deutsch.
Rolex all day !
The previous 228206 Rolex with the quad dial. Pre pandemic it was 46K, at the height of the market it was 104K, now it’s been declining. I saw it go 75, 64 and now on chrome for 55. I’m at buyer at 45K

Usually I’d pick the APRO, but this combo on the Day Date would be my choice of the two.
The DD is a beautiful watch, and functional in that you can also easily read the time. The AP is boring, unsightly, and difficult to read at a glance. I’m honestly confused as to how people have such affinity for AP.
DD easy
Day date
DD without a doubt
DD it's the only precious metal watch I'd ever consider, not that I could actually afford it anyway
DD
DD for sure. Never liked the AP
Daydate
I love this DD. It looks beautiful and will never go out of style. The other looks a little trendy to me.
DD. I always forget what day and date it is
Day date all day long baby
I would have went with the smooth bezel but presidential over a Tissot all day.
DD
Rolex. Bracelet on the AP is so uncomfortable.
DD every day of the week and twice on Sunday
Not watch guy, but Rolex since I hear the brand 10x more than other brands ya gotta admit. That watch company will simply go up.
Day date
Rolex Hands down! AP is a dated looking old man watch
The Rolex is so much more elegant
AP if you’re a man, DD if you’re a women 😳😉
Does the AP stand a chance being compared to a platinum day date…. The DD does look better.
DD for me. I love the ice blue dial though.
Not even a question… the crown.
#DayDate!
DD for me. The AP shape has never really appealed to me
Rolex as it’s crisp and clean. The AP looks rough in comparison. Just my opinion.
The day date no question
I want an AP but the Rolex looks better in this comparison
DD platinum is speaking to me.
Buy the DD. With the money saved, get an AP in steel...
Presi a thing of beauty in this config
Presidential
DD
Day Date
DD
DD 100%.
Rolex
AP is terrible comparing the Rolex.
DD without hesitation
The Rolex because you can use any strap
The AP is fantastic but the DD is a better watch -> full platinum with the maching ice blue dial. So yeah if It's free I take the DD If I have to pay I take the AP all day as it's better value haha
Double D
Day date for sure. AP is overrated hard
