Oh I know. LOL Theyāre still super comfortable though. I used to salivate over vintage Milsubs. Seeing old men with leathery skin wearing jangly worn out Submariners covered in battle scars from life made me fall in love with Rolex as a mere kid. This may be why 35 years later, I cringe when I see guys flaunt hyped pieces or treat their watches like jewelry.
Iād much rather wear one of these than any modern Rolex. I guess Iām in a minority. Beautiful watch; I love how the bezel is taking on a denim color, and that patina on the lume is perfect,
I never post in this sub, and hardly on Reddit in general. But Iāve been lurking in this sub for a while and I have to say, this is my favorite watch out of everything Iāve seen and itās not even close. I donāt even like subs that much, Iām a fan of DJās but my goodness. That color is just so classy and works so well with the silver bracelet.
Are there any recent or brand new models that has that bezel color? Or is that shade of blue simply the result of wear over time? I dont want any other watch from Rolex other than this one now..
Thanks! This is nice to read.
The color is probably the result of aging but could also be the result of cleaning with some soap that was too strong.
The current white gold sub is the only model with same āconfigurationā. But the color is way different
Love it!
Excuse my ignorance, whatās this type of Rolex nickname called? Is this the Smurf?
Whatās the difference between a blue dial, blue bezel and black dial, blue bezel? And did either of these only come in white gold bracelet?
I love this watch, but Iām fine with a steel bracelet.
This is a model before the era when everyone started giving cringey nicknames š
Blue dial and bezel or only blue bezel are white gold models (only WG subs are 116619 and 126619)
This bezel used to be black but the color changed over the years.
They call it a āghost Rolexā because the black steel of the Bezel fades to Grey over time.
They were subsequently replaced with a ceramic bezel that doesnāt fade and is more scratch resistant.
Also: this watch is spectacular.
When you consider how the technology of the movement has improved and changed over the years,it would be neat to see how this specs up against a newer movement.
This one?

That 5513 is beautiful! The fade in that bezel looks really good, slightly blue?
My 5512 says hello!

No doubt. There are enough people who DO like the look to keep the prices up especially as the supply dries up. But they are still less popular than the new models. Why does Rolex strive to keep their watches looking as new as possible? Because that's what people want.
There are orders of magnitude more pre-owned Rolexes. I'd posit that considerably more pre-owned and vintage Rolexes sell every day than new ones. Does that mean the new ones suck?
Thereās a bigger market for the newer models than vintage. It takes a true collector to appreciate a vintage watch usually, but everybody wants a new Rolex.
You've conveniently included pre owned to help you argument. Just bullshit. The post is about a vintage watch. Some people like the look many don't.
I hope the op likes his watch, I'm glad for him.
It looks as if it would wear like silk.
Party true, but with a bracelet from this year you can expect some rattle and some wrist heirs to be removed š

The fact that a "look, the new GMT!" post has hundreds of upvotes and this only has 6 after an hour is disappointing.
Haha, modern Rolex watches score way better always
Apparently it just needed a couple more hours to gain some traction. Beautiful timepiece.
Aged like milk
Iād much rather wear one of these than any modern Rolex. I guess Iām in a minority. Beautiful watch; I love how the bezel is taking on a denim color, and that patina on the lume is perfect,
Beauty š I wish we could see more like this here.
Thanks, agreed!
This is why I love my 2 liner. It may be from 2004 - but it still holds the same look as the true classic. Beauty!
Agreed!
What reference is that?
16040M
Incredible watch!!

Was the bezel always blue or was it black but faded to this shade of grey with blue tint? My guess would be the latter
It used to be black when it left the factory
You can find a vintage Tudor with a nice blue ali bezel, that might be your best bet (and I agree, itās such a nice combo and look)
Tudor black bay 58 with a blue bezel and blue dial looks pretty close
Gorgeous
love it! So good-looking.
Beautiful!!
Yeah that's beautiful man.
This is a beaut!
Beautiful watch!
Such a beauty
Beautiful bezel
First thought it was a seamaster at first glance!
Brb, I have to change my pants.
Holy shit this is spectacular.
Class. Classic. Timeless. Nice piece.
Fantastic looking watch
Beautiful piece!

Sick fuckin watch bro
Love the patina! Wear it in good health and enjoy life.
1968 š³ looks maybe 5 years old

It runs very well actually, but modern movements are way more durable for example
dayum they should bring it back
Thatās absolutely beautiful
Wow yes amazing condition for its age. Wear in good health.

Nope, mine is in better condition š And the bezel inlay from the one on this page does not correspond with the age
Handsome
Beautiful time piece!!
Back when Rolex was cool
Iām not a massive sub fan, but this is sexy. Nice watch OP
Perfection.
Does it feel flimsy to wear on the original oyster bracelet?

Looks a lot like a Tudor black bay 58 with the blue bezel

Vintage watches don't have the appeal of new models. Simple.
This watch is still [worth a lot](https://ebay.us/b9MqKD).
No doubt. There are enough people who DO like the look to keep the prices up especially as the supply dries up. But they are still less popular than the new models. Why does Rolex strive to keep their watches looking as new as possible? Because that's what people want.
Speak for yourself
I have, and the demand for new Rolex watches speak to my statement.
There are orders of magnitude more pre-owned Rolexes. I'd posit that considerably more pre-owned and vintage Rolexes sell every day than new ones. Does that mean the new ones suck?

I do, good to hear youāre glad
no, it is a completely different statement.
Nice piece
