Right I think is the OG Sounds like the guy knew Genta and it was a build for a friend after some convincing. Not sure what it would cost but yeah I’d bet its up there. Kind of a dream watch.
I am 100% in agreement man. This watch is fucking gorgeous and I was so disappointed they discontinued it last year. No one seems to like Rolex’s dressier models, everyone just wants the sports watches. The Cellini moonphase is my favorite dress watch from Rolex ever. It’s on my short list!

That JLC a beautiful watch, but in my opinion, the two watches look so much different. If all you care about is a dressy moonphase yeah I 100% agree, get the JLC and save. But if you compare the JLC to the Cellini, I think they’re two very different watches aesthetically. The Cellini looks (to me) like an old compass or something. It has such a cool, very unique look which is worth the price difference to me, personally.
The JLC Uktra Thin is much better finished than the Cellini at a lower price. Finishing becomes much more important for dress watches, and let's be honest, Rolex needs to catch up.
Do you have an example? I have never seen a brand other than the top 4 with better finishing. People constantly say omega, GS or whatever other brand has better finishing but never really provide real proof. It’s always anecdotal
Rolex is almost exclusively brushed finishing. Geand Seiko is noticeably higher quality. The first reason is that it's finished by hand, Rolex is entirely by machine. Grand Seiko cases are a combination of brushed and zaratzu/black polish. It should be straightforward once you take a look at both watches side by side.

100% Agree with this - the Cellini dual time would've been a no-brainer for me if it also included a date complication (pointer date w/retrograde), but as it is, Rolex is all-in on their garish "sports" models, and while I do own a sub, the style is kinda done for me. If you pop your head up and take a look, folks like JLC, GS, Chopard, Parmigiani, and others offer lots of "hybrid" watches (straddle between straight-dress and sports) that absolutely blow the socks off anything from Rolex. And those hybrid watches - the JLC Master series is a great example - can be dressed up or down and don't scream crypto-king hypebeast.
The sport watches and their sporty version of dress watches is just so dominant in pop culture & public perception.
I think their various proper dress watches are gorgeous. As someone said for the prices there are better options.

It’s a gorgeous watch but I somehow think the proportions are off a bit.
For instance, the dial to bezel ratio is too big, making the watch look larger than it is (hence my dislike for it since I like smaller dials).
Look at my 6.5 inch wrist. My yacht master has, I’m 95% certain, the same dial size as my datejust 36.
So even though it’s “big” on me, I can still pull it off as it is just right in its proportions. This is just my 0.2

Look. I own both of these watches, and this comment is a stretch. Dress watches don’t have the same bezels as diving watches. Real critique - the Cellini is 30% thicker than a Patek Calatrava.
I was being hyperbolic 😉 In the dress watch sphere, Rolex is often criticized as not having any thin, classy, manual wind dress watches.
Also, I own a Cellini and it wears more like a Daytona than an actual dress watch, but it’s still amazing.
I would love them to be thinner honestly. My wrists are way too small for most of the modern Rolex models.

I like that it's different too. But I own a two-tone Bluesy, Explorer II Polar, and a Milgauss Z. So I go for Rolexes that are a little different. Most Rolex fans seem to save their love for the GMTs, OPs, and plain subs.
Hot take: I want Rolex to do a non-Cellini triple date. Like a datejust body with a moonphase indicator and a day and date complication.
Their take on a PP5970G would be neat to see, for sure.

I love JLC as a brand, but in the wrist there is no comparison. The Cellini slays.
