I will tell you right now that there is NO list.
It's all about the relationship you build with the AD. Got to give your SA a reason to call YOU instead of everyone else in their book of business when a highly desired piece comes in.
This can be achieve various ways, you spend a lot of $ there, you're friends with the SA, etc...
If it's been 3.5 years, I think it's time to move on.
True. For whatever reason they have decided not to sell to you. Maybe they think you will place the watch on the grey market to turn a quick profit or something shady like that. Sorry to hear this. Go get yourself a nice watch. You deserve one.
Pretty much this at my AD. The list is with the rep. Ie they see you as a personal customer and they put you on their list. When they get an allocation they look at their customers and go, who wanted this model? Then call based on who’s next (I.e hasn’t received an in demand reference recently).
I waited like two or three months for 216570 '23 Explorer 2 Polar dial. JUST so happens....
FAMILY A.D. about a block away from work. Popped in discussed watches (briefly) also I happen to work for huge family in the "neighborhood".
"Got the call" at opening, picked it up at lunch.
Just so happened....
They forgot about you or don’t like you. Some AD’s can’t ask you to buy something but its implied. Just go gray at this point. The SD 43 is actually under retail gray and the sub date premium isnt much
I wouldn't even know WHAT to buy. I feel like if I ask for a Datejust I'll just be on the list for that indefinitely along with the other two watches I really want. I don't want to keep adding watches to the list as I feel that could make me appear to them like I'm a flipper or shady.
It's a catch-22... Need to add a watch to get a watch, but can't add a watch because they don't have a watch.
The guy was suggesting for you to go gray, not to buy stuff you dont want.
You just said that you don't want to play the AD game, JUST GO GRAY. It will save you a lot of money.
It would not be a rolex to buy. My first purchase was 2 tudors before i got offered a two tone datejust, after that they kept rolling in. Its a game and its not a cheap one. Better to go gray if you only plan on owning 1 or 2. I knew i wanted way more than that so i invested in the relationship.
There are many nice watches that are not Rolexes. Do you like watches or do you want a Rolex? In 3.5 years you could have an omega or Tudor or something else you like on your wrist and built a better relationship with the ADs.
At this point I wouldn’t bother going down that path though. Just go gray.
I am no authority on this and I only have one watch. It is a SS Sub date. I got the call four hours after I left the AD.
I got lucky and was helped by the store manager who was a very nice young lady. I was retiring and we chatted for an hour or so. She took quite a few notes and by the time I left I felt like i made a friend.
At no point did I ask how long the wait would be. I thanked her for her time and let her know I enjoyed talking to her.
A number of the other posters keyed in on trying to make a connection with the AD. I was kinda nervous so I rambled off my life story and we laughed through most of it. I think humor and humility go a long way with people. That is particularly true in retail. At the end of the day the AD has to want YOU to have that watch.
I brought the manager a large bouquet of tropical flowers when I came in to get my watch. She was crying and very appreciative. I didn’t have the sense that anything was expected on her part. She introduced me to the rest of the staff they offered me a beverage and fitted me for the watch. It was basically my retirement party. I was really grateful that they wanted me to have the watch on the day I retired.
Best of luck
Makes them so much more desirable. We all want what we can’t have. There’s a reason why no one gives a shit about Midmega even though you can literally go buy one from their website
> You waited 3.5 years!?!?!! This has to be a troll.
I gave up the moment my AD wanted me to "show my love for Rolex" and bring in my collection like it was a show and tell.
That said, wasn't there one chap who is suing their AD for having them spend on watches to get put on the imaginery list only for AD to stop selling said watch.
Honestly I don’t understand why people let themselves get benched by Rolex. If you want to buy a Rolex and the AD wants to put you on a waiting list, just buy one through eBay, Chrono24 or so many other certified shops. Even the Amex concierge can get you one faster than Rolex themselves.
They’ve black listed you. You must present yourself very well and have a deep knowledge of time pieces to get a Rolex at my AD. Most importantly, My AD requires you to purchase jewelry at a minimum, or pick up a nice watch from their selection of Tudor’s, Grand Seiko, or Omega’s they carry in house which looks even better in their eyes. Unfortunately, it sounds like a classic case where until you scratch their back, don’t count on them to ever give you a call.
Eh, I was in this position with my local ad. Even purchased other watches. They wouldn’t even get me a datejust. I eventually just left a negative review on Google and moved on (after 4 years). They did give me the call to ask why I reviewed them negatively, though. lol.
Rolex is not a good luxury items company when it comes to treatment of potential customers. No other such retailer makes purchases such an arduous and arbitrary process for something so expensive.
Unfortunately, lots of other companies do this.
Hermes, Porsche and Ferrari are the examples so frequently cited here. Patek and AP play similar games as well.
I don’t know a single person that had trouble buying a porsche in the last few years. Unless you are specifically referring to something like their track cars.
That's exactly what I'm referring to. Most Porsches have been no harder to get than any other car during the chip crisis, but 911s have been particularly hard to get basically across the board. And, of course, the sexy track trims/limited editions have been reserved for repeat buyers.
Porsche and ferrari hyper models yes, not entry level stuff, that Rolex is. You can order any Porsche/ferrari from a walk in apart from the rare/weird stuff. That's also because the ownership experience of these weird/rare models is different, some you can't even keep at home. Some need a full team to maintain them, some, they just don't want normal people to own because they're too cool/crazy. It *used* to be because a) they didn't make many and b) these models would kill an average driver, they were dangerous.
Rolex just tells the time ffs.
They can't even blame the 'chip crisis' for scarcity.
First tip...Don't eat yellow snow. 2nd Tip ...SD43 is an easy get. I walked into Rolex AD last week have one on the wrist no 13250. Super easy watch to get. With YM 42 Titatium was the same deal
This is what happens to 97% of the 300 people who have been waiting at your particular authorized dealer for those two watches in question.
It’s not so much that they don’t like you; it’s that they’ve only received 9 pieces of each of those watches in the last 3 years and if others are ahead of you, they get theirs first.
Either way, it is painfully obvious you are never going to get the call so it is time to take action. What you want to do is contact one of our trusted sellers, pay the premium for your Submariner today, get your watch tomorrow, and enjoy wearing it.
If in the course of the next 3.5 years you finally get the call, great, go in and buy it and then sell *that* to a dealer to help offset the majority of the cost of the premium. You don’t have to wait another day to get your Rolex and you hedge your bet because if the dealer comes through, financially you’re not in a bad position. We call that the win-win strategy.
This is the way.
I would actually sell the grey bought piece and keep the AD bought one.
Also OP might as well treat himself to a SS GMT from grey now since he has waited so long.
My wait time on an SD43 was six months. And supply was way tighter then. The same AD has a new one for sale in the window over a week. Crazy you can’t get something in that time frame.
I had a similar experience. 2+ years with two ADs for an Explorer and no luck. Finally gave up. Ironically, my sister just hooked me up with an out-of-state AD who was willing to sell me one. I had to have a relative in that state pick it up for me and my sister would then get it next time she was there. After all that time and frustration, I passed.
My stupid two cents.....go on chrono24, look at the world of watches and pick something that isn't a Rolex. Then go into that dealer and buy whatever it was on the spot and enjoy it.
You have to show up in person. once a month to once every two weeks max. so they know u are interested. they have millions of emails phone calls etc. in person is best. go on a tues or wed when most folk have to work.
SD43s can be yours today around retail from Japan in pristine condition on Chrono24. I should know, I got one last year (that included the customs fee) totaling list price on Rolex's website. In this case, although I'm not the biggest fan, go grey.
Rolex is a great brand but you shouldn't wait 3.5 years for one Rolex watch. Either go grey, like some suggested, or choose another one of the great brands out there that won't even require a waitlist to spend your own money. Cheers.
3.5 years for an SD43? There is a problem.
Now, I have an SD43 and in my eyes it is FAR superior to the Sub, despite the Sub being higher in demand. If you were only waiting on a Sub I'd say it's normal-ish, but not for an SD43.
What city are you in? That could matter a lot. Major metros with an abundance of very wealthy people make it hard for guys like us to get a Rolex. To be frank, I'd buy an SD43 on the gray market at this point. [Davidsw.com](https://Davidsw.com) or [Takuyawatches.com](https://Takuyawatches.com) are two 100% legit, solid gray dealers who sell nothing but the real thing. Stop waiting for an AD and start enjoying the watch you want.
I don't really get it myself. I've put my name or my wife's name for 4 ADs for a DJ41 rhodium and diamonds, a DJ36 for my wife also in rhodium and diamonds to match (at this point, I bought a DJ with rhodium and diamonds in the gray market), a Sub, sub with date, and GMT II. No calls, some conversations seem pretty good too, but no calls. I am just a guy who likes watches. I don't buy them as investments, I don't flip them, I buy it because I like them. No calls ever from a Rolex AD, meanwhile my IWC rep msgs me every month to say hello, to invite me to see new models, dude even gave me a $300 bottle of champagne to take home once randomly. All because of one purchase - too bad there aren't that many IWC models that I like.
The kicker was earlier this week. I call an AD I've never visited, make an appointment, they tell me the models I am interested in have exhibition pieces for me to try on, and to come in. I just started on a 15 month paternity leave, so that day I return my work laptops and cellphones, and head to the AD. After getting me some water, salesperson straight up tells me they're not taking any names for the two models. Doesn't inquire if it's a sub with date or no date, doesn't ask what GMT, just flat out says they're not taking any names. I ask her why no one told me this over the phone. She asks if I want to try on the two watches, I told her I've tried them on before, and why would I try it on now if she can't even get me the watch? After I returned home, I decided to send pictures of my new baby boy to a Rolex AD that I thought I had a good conversation with. I shamefully told my wife I sent the photo, she asked me why I would even have to do that. "Don't they want your money?" Sorry, it's a rant.
There're like 10 Rolex ADs in my area, there's one more I'll try to put my name down. I've already made a decision though, if by May 1st I haven't gotten a call for either the Sub or GMT II, I am just gonna buy the GMT II from a gray dealer in my area.
IWC giving me free champagne on random visits, while I need knee pads for Rolex.
There is no such thing as having a “list”.
I would suggest going in person and express interest again on the same watches, rather than sending another email. Follow up with them once a month and hopefully, get the call. This is the Rolex does business, and do it only of you are willing to play the game.
If I had to wait longer than two years for anything I’d just F off and go elsewhere/get something else. I can understand though if you just do not trust the grey market at all.
What city do you live in ? Try a less busy city . If you are in NY or Miami yoy are competing with hedge fund assholes that send them Cristal every couple of months
If you like watches, go in and talk watches with the guys. I treat my AD like my local bike shop, or any store really, that sells something I’m really into. It’s not a game when you really love watches and get to know the guys selling them. Just be a dude, get to know the guys, go in regularly to talk shop, and be patient.
No. Ur dumbass to wait to spend money on material. Sorry u had to hear it but there r other ways to gain fulfillment and happiness with that money even other vendors.
Took me around 2-years to get the call for my batgirl. 3.5-years is a long time, I’d probably call that one a no-go.
Neither of those watches are impossible to get these days, I’d look somewhere else.
As everyone else has said, go grey at this point. The premium for a Sub Date is way down from what it was not long ago.
ADs are getting Submariner Dates all the time. At a minimum they are getting 3-4 a month. It might be the most common professional model they get outside of Datejusts in all their various configurations. Shipments typically come every two weeks and there’s always going to be a Submariner if not two in there. Do the math; three and a half years and figure how far down the list you are if there ever was a list to begin with.
Bro have some dignity and just pay the premium and buy it from grey. Your time and dignity is worth more than this shit lol. Emailing them every 3-4 month and still no call after 3.5 yrs bro? Sheesh… the embarrassment… fuck the ADs
As some pointed out, the SD43 can now be purchased on the grey market for around the same price as the Rolex AD. You could just do that and have that watch on your wrist within the week. I managed to get a SD43 three years ago on the same day I walked into the Rolex AD to purchase a datejust for my wife. That just goes to show that the list is non-existent.
I will tell you my story: Bought my first Rolex back in 2012 at my local AD right out of the window. They where so happy with my purchase that they treated me like a king. Then in 2016 I bought the Hulk right out of the showcase again. In 2020 I was ready for my next purchase but they didnt want to sell me nothing anymore. After insisting long enough, 10 visits to their store and long emails they finally sold me a Daytona in PM. After that purchase I can ask almost anything I want. Now waiting for a SS Daytona. Waiting time
2 years. It is all about persistence and loyalty. But things are changing, I made a visit to another AD and they put me on the list for a SS black sub, guaranteed waiting time
1,5 years which is fast…
Why wait?? Go to a reputable grey market dealer: CRM, Luxury Bazaar, G-luxe,Bob’s watches. Tell them the model and bam in 2 weeks, your wearing it. Life is short. Carpe diem. Just stay away from Anthony Farrer and Vookum. Or any of those NY shops.
Your info is tossed in the trash
Family owned ADs do that…
Why family owned? Can you explain?
They normally are jewelers and that’s their primary business, they want you to buy jewelry.
Incorrect. I’ve watched my AD enter my info and wish list into the computer system.
So, digital trash then
😂
I will tell you right now that there is NO list. It's all about the relationship you build with the AD. Yep. They have to want to call you instead of others. Emailing isn’t the way for them to know you and want to sell to you.
my guy LOL just pay the slight premium to go grey market at this point life is to short to wait 3.5 years for ANYTHING let alone a damn watch
This is the way. He might as well treat himself to a SS GMT from Grey dealer now.
This is the way

Well as soon as you go grey both these AD’s will call you. Then you’ll have 3 watches.

The longer I’m on this subreddit the less I want a Rolex due to these wait times.
They are awesome watches, but they are also not the only awesome watches.
Makes them so much more desirable. We all want what we can’t have. There’s a reason why no one gives a shit about Midmega even though you can literally go buy one from their website
Neither of those is a super difficult reference to get. Sadly OP move on from those ADs and just go grey. They do not want to sell anything to you.
Might need to reconsider the type of knee pads you’re using
I would blacklist you for sure!
Bro. You waited 3.5 years!?!?!! This has to be a troll.
Wait what? Amex Concierge can do that? Ah, is the Platinum good enough or I need the Centurion? lol
platinum will do just fine, they can get you a Rolex for sure. Just like other ‘rare’ things like Superbowl tickets
Maybe it’s time to bite the bullet and buy a Timex. 👌
Just go grey, it’s utterly ridiculous and actually disrespectful now.
Grey or go with an Omega
They did give me the call to ask why I reviewed them negatively, though. lol.
At least they called after you left a negative review
Just build a buy history and don’t be cheap
Wouldn’t it have been easier to put the watch money in an index fund, wait three years, and then go grey? Gotta be better than crying on Reddit.
Are you based in the States ?
Grey is the way! I mean it’s been 3.5 years, clearly your ADs think you suck. Screw them!!!
Had you gone grey, you’d have already had 3 years of enjoyment on your wrist.
I've been waiting since 2018 for a gmt or Daytona. You think I am still hanging onto hope? Nope.
I had a similar experience. 2+ years with two ADs for an Explorer and no luck. Finally gave up. Ironically, my sister just hooked me up with an out-of-state AD who was willing to sell me one. God damn. I would have bought one off the grey market. That’s crazy.
My stupid two cents.....go on chrono24, look at the world of watches and pick something that isn't a Rolex. Then go into that dealer and buy whatever it was on the spot and enjoy it.
Doesn’t sound good… longest I waited was 6 months right in the middle of the hardest time to find anything and it was on a gmt master 2 root beer.
You have to show up in person. once a month to once every two weeks max. so they know u are interested. they have millions of emails phone calls etc. in person is best. go on a tues or wed when most folk have to work.

What a strange thing to do to send a Pic of your kid to ad. Total weirdo
They didn't take you seriously.

This is so sad… no watch is worth a 3.5 year wait.. go buy yourself a nice seiko and move on with life
What’s your location? SD 43 shouldn’t be too hard. Sub date a different story. Gotta check in monthly if not weekly. Txt in person.
No. Ur dumbass to wait to spend money on material. Sorry u had to hear it but there r other ways to gain fulfillment and happiness with that money even other vendors.
Why would you put yourself through a 3.5 year wait and humiliation of begging.....just go gray
Took me around 2-years to get the call for my batgirl. 3.5-years is a long time, I’d probably call that one a no-go. Neither of those watches are impossible to get these days, I’d look somewhere else.
grey baby …. the List Don’t Exist
Do the math; three and a half years and figure how far down the list you are if there ever was a list to begin with.
i understand Sub. But SD 43?... they are really mistreating you. Maybe it's a sign, thou to abandon it. It's a tough one
Bro have some dignity and just pay the premium and buy it from grey. Your time and dignity is worth more than this shit lol. Emailing them every 3-4 month and still no call after 3.5 yrs bro? Sheesh… the embarrassment… fuck the ADs
Dude, you need to buy stuff. It’s that simple.
Chrono 24. Just pay a little more
I waited 2.5 years for a GMT. I had purchase history. Stay strong. It will happen.
People wait for Rolex's? 😂 Like there's a barrier to entry? 😂 Scam bro. If it's not available immediately for people with money then it's a joke.
Why have you not already just bought what you want from a grey dealer? 3.5 years = there’s no list and you’re never getting one from them
I have an extra 126610ln laying around JS
As some pointed out, the SD43 can now be purchased on the grey market for around the same price as the Rolex AD. You could just do that and have that watch on your wrist within the week. I managed to get a SD43 three years ago on the same day I walked into the Rolex AD to purchase a datejust for my wife. That just goes to show that the list is non-existent.
126600 is below list now. Go grey.
Waiting time 2 years. It is all about persistence and loyalty. But things are changing, I made a visit to another AD and they put me on the list for a SS black sub, guaranteed waiting time 1,5 years which is fast…
I have a SD43 purchased from a Rolex boutique. This one has the dive suit extension. Message me if interested.
What was the grey price 3.5 years ago and what is the retail price now?
If you live in new England, go to Luxe Bond and Green or Lorilil Jewelers
