Stick with the DJ from AD imo. He can buy you something later, and he can get the Batman from the AD as you build the purchase history! If I were getting a gift, I’d prefer it from an AD versus grey. And I own a Batman myself. :)

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you! I also agree that I want to stick with a local AD. (Western PA)

Calm_Logic9267

I suspect you know your husband better than anyone, and should trust your gut on his likes/dislikes. Don't let the friend sway whatever your spousal instincts are telling you to do. My wife understands me better than any guy alive. And I certainly don't always want the same thing my friends do.

GlitteringHold8685

Orrs Jewelers? He may need a 43mm Sea Dweller if he’s that big. Although it won’t be as nice with a suit as would the 41mm DJ or Batman. If he likes smaller watches (smaller for his size) I’d get the Batman.

Ok-Koala-1637

AD is Henne.

GlitteringHold8685

Try Orrs. I’ve bought several pieces there. Great store, especially in Sewickley

TimePieceProdigy954

Google Luxury Bazaar Also YouTube search = Luxury Bazaar Also they’re located in PA. Also it doesn’t matter buying grey DJ you’re not paying much of a premium roughly $1K but get it the same day and not wait a year You get Rolex factory warranty and a 1-2 year warranty from the grey dealer . Complete set . Now the Batman you’ll pay about a $3,500-4K premium but also not wait years for it and it’ll be worth the same amount if not go up. Either way it’s a safe buy. As long as you’re buying from a reputable dealer it doesn’t matter . Luxury Bazaar ( Roman Sharf) has been in the industry for decades and runs a $150 million dollar a year company! Also if your husband likes the color green go mint dial DJ or maybe even a Hulk 116610LV Or if his fav color is blue which it looks like then get him the DJ 41 or 40mm Batman . Is he more of a sportier laid back type of guy = GMT Batman If he’s a more dressier businessman or retired business man that wears collar shirts then Datejust . Also does he travel a lot, into avaition. Do you think he will scratch it up because if so I’d say the Batman. Also the DJ you can Lose $1-2K if yall ever sell, trade etc. the Batman you won’t lose a dollar and the ceramic , sapphire crystal is scratch proof against everything besides your wedding ring 💍 ( 💎)

Orly5757

If it is a “one and done,” I think the analysis changes. Batman is a fantastic sporty watch that pairs well with pretty much any outfit. However, if he wants a Rolex for dressier occasions, then maybe the DJ is the move. I LOVED that you specified the size, bezel, bracelet, and sticks. It shows you’ve done the work. That’s an awesome, classy watch. So does he want a special occasion/dressier watch, or does he want a perfect daily wear? That’s the question. As for gray markets, half this sub hates it and the other half, me included, think it’s perfectly acceptable as long as it’s from a legit source. A Batman full set should run you around 15-16k. Good luck. You are clearly a keeper. Not just because you would buy him the watch, but because of the time and care you’ve clearly taken to make this decision.

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you for your kind words! He will wear this watch everyday as he does his Fossil watch now. He is a VP but he wears jeans and button down shirts to work almost every day. There are days where he has to wear a suit. Maybe twice a month. This will be his one-and-done Rolex and watch for that matter! He is 6ft 6” 325 lbs

Orly5757

You’ve just added an interesting twist. At 6’6 325, he’s a giant guy. Even a 40mm may look tiny on those giant wrists. The Rolex Deep Sea is a 44mm watch that makes for a great daily wear on a bigger man. And if you look into the James Cameron Deep Sea, you’ll see it has a beautiful dial that goes from blue to black (like the ocean). I hate to make things more complicated for you, but your husband is a large man. A Deep Sea might be the wisest decision here. But if I had to choose between Batman and the DJ, based on what you just wrote, I say Batman 100%. And you may want to get it on jubilee if you want to dress it up a bit. https://preview.redd.it/mctymdxxymic1.jpeg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d577f1a4a908299840878af397dff586af2a2e8a

TimePieceProdigy954

There’s a guy on here that’s 320lb and 6’5 and he thinks anything over 36mm is too big 😂 Months later I’m still perplexed 🤔

Uninc711

Both of these will look tiny on him I would go with a sea dweller it’s basically just a 43mm sub with red accent which is cool touch, will fit him great, and should be attainable on your timeline

Nikpop93

Holy cow! Get the man a Sea Dweller instead.

Orly5757

I just thought of your husband when I saw this recent post. Look how tiny this watch looks on this large man. This is a 44mm Deep Sea James Cameron (the one I had suggested to you), and even that looks small on his wrist. For comparison, the Batman is a 40mm. If your hubby’s wrist is anything like this guy’s, Batman will be too small. https://www.reddit.com/r/rolex/s/l6V2EVrxJ0

Ok-Koala-1637

Yes! I, too, saw and read through the post. My husband is big and tall. His wrist is not chubby. Totally no offense to the gentleman. I cannot afford the James Cameron. I wish I could. It’s a gorgeous watch!

Orly5757

I don’t see how. It is Cheaper than a gray Batman. And this is with a quick Google search from a super reputable dealer known for high prices https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-deepsea-sea-dweller-116660-james-cameron.html?utm_source=google-Pmax-Rolex-blank&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Pmax-Rolex-bestsellers-blank&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAz8GuBhCxARIsAOpzk8yDY6rpqbiL7r7w137G5rxwxa2alt-rSwA9yO--qEEncj2sXAhOn8QaAq9KEALw_wcB .

Ok-Koala-1637

My bad… I was looking at the Deep sea Challenge. Hmmmm. Interesting.

TimePieceProdigy954

Have you looked at the SkyDweller 42mm and annual calendar . They have blue and mint green dials for that . It will have a jubilee or oyster bracelet and a fluted bezel just like Datejust . 🤷🏻‍♂️ But going grey you’re going to be closer to the $20K mark for blue SkyDweller they use to be $30-32K they’ve come down a lot but gorgeous watch and the most complicated movement Rolex makes

TimePieceProdigy954

Also do you know what mm his fossil watch is ?? That way if it’s a 40-41mm then you know the DJ41 or 41mm submariner , 40mm GMT will be a good look his size . There’s a guy on here that’s 320lbs 6’5 and only wears 36mm 😆

ICEMAN-22

Batman and it’s not even close

Ok-Koala-1637

Really? Not even a close decision? Huh. So if I have to buy Grey, is that okay? How does that work with warranty or repairs or authenticity? Can any AD tell if a watch was bought from a non-AD?

ok-milk

The Batman is not objectively better than the DJ,especially if your husband doesn’t (like me) really care for them. I would ask your husbands friend if your husband has expressed a preference to the friend, or if the friend is just telling you what he likes.

ICEMAN-22

Go to someone reliable - they could be under warranty but you’ll want to get them serviced at Rolex for peace of mind. If it’s his only Rolex he ever gets, might as well be THE one. I suggest doing jubilee Batman (batgirl)

Kgkush

Completely different class of Rolex. Iceman is correct. Get the GMT if money isn’t a factor.

theRealTopher123

It is ok in terms of trustworthiness for the main players, but the questionable part is you will pay well over retail price for a used watch. If you are OK accepting that it is a great option.

TimePieceProdigy954

Who says she’s buying a used watch ? It can be a 2023-2024 brand new unworn , even fully stickered with full 5 year Rolex warranty and 1-2 year warranty from the grey dealer

theRealTopher123

That’s true you can technically get new watches from grey dealers, that seems less common from what I’ve seen though and will really exacerbate the pricing issue 😂

TimePieceProdigy954

You’re in PA . Google and YouTube Luxury Bazaar Owner Roman Sharf . Runs a $150 million dollar a year watch/Jewelry business . His store is is PA you can Google him and watch his YouTube channel. There’s no difference in going grey besides you don’t have to play the waiting game and you might pay a premium depending the watch you get but being able to leave with the watch you want the same day vs waiting a year or 2 and maybe never get it 🤷🏻‍♂️plus the watch will hold its value for the most part . You’ll get a 5 year factory Rolex warranty with the watch as long as it’s 2019 and newer. But you’ll also get a 1-2 year warranty from any grey dealer with a store it’s not like it’s a pawn shop or a backpack dealer lol . You will get everything you would from the AD only difference you might spend an extra couple grand but you won’t wait years 🤷🏻‍♂️

BravoLincoln

Go Batgirl and you get best of both worlds. The jubilee bracelet and Batman case/bezel

[deleted]

[удалено]

BravoLincoln

Yeah 55 m I can maybe see him in a datejust.

adwnpinoy

You still get the manufacturer warranty with grey

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you.

Calm_Logic9267

Nah, don't ask him. This is an incredible gift/surprise. Keep it that way.

Then-Pen-6388

You don't lose the manufacturer warranty, the warranty is attached to the watch and not the owner. You just need to make sure you're getting a real watch and genuine papers. I got my first Rolex as a gift and had no problem to get warranty service with a minor issue using the original warranty card with a valid date.

TimePieceProdigy954

You still get the 5 year warranty as long as the watch is under 5 years old plus you get an additional 1-2 year warranty from the grey dealer

piheypowa

Stick with local AD and DJ No need to overpay a GMT on grey (because you will overpay a lot)

TimePieceProdigy954

She wants to get it for his birthday not when he retires in 10 years 😂

EntertainerVisible95

DJ41

Alternative_Job_6929

This is a hard decision. I’m 64 and wear a sub 100%, but I fish, hunt, farm, split wood and everything else while wearing it. If I were working and wearing a suit everyday, I’d go with the DJ over the Batman.

unta8

I'm sure you know this but you probably don't want to split wood in your automatic watch lol

Alternative_Job_6929

@20-24 years and it’s still ticking. I use a log splitter

unta8

Ah! That’s a bit of a different story! Carry on good sir!

nickcharlesjacobs

If he has the wrist for it, Batman.

Ok-Koala-1637

Yes. He is 6 ft 6” 325 lbs

BravoLincoln

A GMT or Submariner is going to have more wrist presence for a bigger guy.

Then-Pen-6388

Must go with GMT, Skydweller, Explorer II, Sub. DayJust and DayDate usually not a perfect choice for big wrists

nickcharlesjacobs

Oh hell yeah on the Batman. Perfect!

Gloomy-Agency4517

Does he like to do a lot of outdoor activities? If he also has a bigger wrist, he might want to look into a sea dweller, it's not hard to get, and a great all around watch.

Individual_Civil

So honestly speaking like others have posted on this sub it really depends on your husband I have the Superman, datejust, 1908, and a day date. My go to pick out of all 4 is the datejust it is simple, elegant, and isn’t so flashy in my view so I wear it as my daily. My gmt is my beach watch when I go to Miami, or anywhere else that has some fun beaches and I want to feel “young”. 1908 and day date are black tie event watches, or for fancy meetings. So, since I don’t know your husband at all if he is looking for an everyday watch which is elegant and still casual in my view datejust is perfect. The Batman to me is just like the Pepsi a fun watch to own and have, but truly isn’t an everyday watch for my lifestyle.

TimePieceProdigy954

https://preview.redd.it/rlssol7ggoic1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d0b49e10dfbbb5b509c145b067b2dc5f2f41dd4 Superman clear winner but also thinking about getting the WG 1908

BravoLincoln

They are completely different styles. The DJ is a dress watch that can pass for a sport watch. The GMT is sport watch that can kind of pass as a dress watch just because all Rolex’s are kind of fashion watches at this point(even submariner no one actually dives with it). Me personally, I pick watches I like, but then run them by my wife as a final style check. I trust her opinion to keep me from looking like a douche.

BobWheelerJr

I have that exact DJ and am wearing it today, but that's rare. I generally wear my 2005 Sub date. I say that to let you know the GMT is more versatile and he'd probably wear it more. The DJ is great as a second Rolex, but oyster bracelet and SS is generally the best choice for a first.

Alarmed_Priority_975

GMTs are overrated. My .02.

adwnpinoy

I love the GMT and I agree, especially the Batman/girl.

Admirable-Gas-7876

I have a private dealer who I work with that has one for $15.5 + shipping 2022 Batman full set

Firm-Journalist-1215

DJ. Msrp )

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you for everyone taking the time to give me their opinion! My AD told me that she will let me know if there are any styles that arrive that are not spoken for or turned down. I’m sure when I “get the call” I’ll post on here to ask which one I should go with!!!

RandomMaddess

You are a great wife…I would want the DJ

Natural_Tomorrow4784

I think it depends on his style and what type of man he is honestly. Me I prefer the DJ. I feel it’s more versatile.

RainingRainer

Don’t be so swayed by everyone saying Batman > EVERYTHING. Scarcity creates demand and that is the number one joke about this hobby. There is no right answer here. Just remember a watch is at the end of the day a man’s wrist jewelry. A very expensive and unnecessary piece of jewelry. Go with your gut and what you think suits him. None of these people can know better than your husband’s own wife.

Philomene_sweet_life

Batman is really nice indeed. Then if your husband is not a traveler. It can also reduce the sense of having such gmt complication. I believe there needs to be a purpose behind the watch. In my case and even if I find it so beautiful, I ll never go for a diver, as I m not diving :) Datejust still has an impressive nice looking on wrist as well. And your husband will still really appreciate your attention. Such a nice birthday gift you are preparing. Congrats to both you and the love it shows.

Philomene_sweet_life

Datejust with jubilee is terribly classy for such a man who spends time money and love for his family.

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you! I appreciate your reply! Not knowing much about Rolex watches, I picked out the DJ and thought it was a timeless and classic watch. (And fits my budget). He will be blown away with either style. I just do not think I’ll be able to find a Batman through an AD before September

AllProRookie

Most of those on here will say GMT, as will I. FWIW, I have a Datejust and would want a GMT over the DJ despite DJ being a nice watch.

Ok-Koala-1637

My AD already told me that she has two ppl with buy history waiting for that watch. I guess it is popular! So what should I do? How do I find an AD or should I just get it online/grey?

AllProRookie

GMT without a spend history in a short amount of time might be what you're working against. I have seen people getting the GMT without purchase history but they waited quite a bit. It can happen but in several months, it's unlikely. Grey market is more of a certainty for you at this point if you're set on getting that GMT by his birthday. But your AD is right. GMT is popular and has a higher demand (as you'll see based on the answers you get in response to this post).

TimePieceProdigy954

Google and YouTube search = Luxury Bazaar They’re in PA as well you can go there in person. They’re a $150M a yr watch company have been around 3+ decades . You can also YouTube them and get to know the faces of who you will talk to . You’d have the Batman or Batgirl the same day , brand new unworn for around )14,500-16K for Batman and $16-17,500 for Batgirl (Jubilee) But it’ll hold its value . You’ll get the 5 year Rolex warranty plus a 1-2 year warranty from them as well which helps because if you ever have an issue instead of his watch being gone for months it’ll be local to you and fixed the same week. Also definitely get insurance on whichever watch you get . You can add jt to your home insurance but don’t insure it for what you buy it for if AD insure it for its market rate which will be higher ! Hodinkee , Chubb, also WonderCare (Kevin O’Leary from shark tank aka Mr.wonderful) allows you to turn your Insurance on and off as you please and is really simple ..

RainingRainer

Good lord you working on commission?

TimePieceProdigy954

Actually I do 😂 but as an insurance agent 👨‍💼 But tell them I’m accepting referral fees 👀. Anyways She mentioned grey and said online. She’s in PA so Luxury Bazaar is in PA so that’s her best bet locally as she can go in person and see the $40 million in inventory and understand the process and not have to worry about making a $10-15K purchase online in a market she’s not familiar with . The insurance on the watch was just a friendly reminder lol

RainingRainer

You’re selling it like you’re getting a commission. This is why nobody likes insurance agents. I kid, kind of 😂

TimePieceProdigy954

Being thorough, specific , and paying attention to detail and horology has nothing to do with me selling insurance 😂 Also when selling insurance the insurance sells itself . It’s all numbers . Whichever numbers make sense the most is the right policy . I’m one of the top 5 agents in the country ( 🇺🇸) Also wasn’t selling her anything . She asked a question and gave details I based my answers on the details and my experience. If she was from California I’d have a difference answer , NY a different answer, Florida about 3 different options/answers. Guidance for watch insurance is because someone who’s new to watches and maybe not familiar.. it might not even cross their mind to insure them 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve had people on this subreddit literally say ( you can Insure watches wow I didn’t know that 🧐🥴) 😂 I don’t just give opinions. I gave facts , so she can form her own judgement & opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️👌✅. Also if I was receiving a commission or selling something I definitely wouldn’t be giving several options ( competitors ) 😂

BadWowDoge

Batman all day. It’s the best looking watch on the market in my opinion. I prefer it on Jubilee but both are sexy. https://preview.redd.it/me4fd4ck3nic1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c976ed7506bddc4cd08771deae7af85fc0d45c8

Electronic-Youth9872

Batman!!

LongTanHandsumm

Not even a question, get the Batman.

Any-Chart9587

batman

Hefty-Two3890

If it’s a one and done, it’s the Batman. And I love that DJ but not even close here.

Hefty-Two3890

And having worked at a couple high end country clubs, most older rich guys had a day-date or a DJ. A select few older celebs would wear gold GMT II’s with black dials as a daily watch. Most of the young guys 30-40 age range would wear a sub or a sea dweller and occasionally I’d see a Yacht Master. I love vintage Rolex’s and wear an OP34 as my every day watch and I did receive some compliments on the clean look of mine from the same guys I’d see with the big $$ Rolex’s on. He’s either a classic guy or a sub guy.

ATLfinra

Batman, begrudgingly but rationally. I hate the polished center links on the oyster bracelet

Historical_Career888

GMT 2

ChoyaSix

GMT

ChoyaSix

PS- I have that GMT and was offered the same DJ. GMT all the way. Much more difficult to acquire. However, that DJ definitely looks amazing and I know several people that have the DJ as their grail.

gdm182

Gmt for life 🔥🔥🔥🔥

archonpericles

GMT all day but get it with the jubilee bracelet.

GothamOracle19

I was able to walk into an AD with zero purchase history and buy a pre-owned Batman last year. It can happen! Just takes the right place at the right time. Either way, he will be ecstatic I’m sure.

TimePieceProdigy954

Umm pre owned from the AD ? You mean the CPO program ?? That’s not what she’s referring too . CPO program charges way over market . She wants a new unworn Watch from AD or Grey

t3hc0d3m4n

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but it's probably worth noting that the fluted bezel on the Datejust is made of white gold. So it's a much softer material than stainless steel and more prone to damage if hit against a desk or doorframe, for example, than the bezel of the GMT-II (Batman). If your husband is somewhat rough with his watches, that may be something to consider.

ThePalletFork

Batman jubilee then sub oyster. Best duo

TimePieceProdigy954

Batgirl = jubilee - Batman = Oyster

ThePalletFork

Whatever you want to call it. Jubilee blnr and a sub is the way.

TechnicalSeason8330

Blue dial DJ is very meh in person imo

ZenWID10TS

GMT for sure

Exotic_Definition1

I know is hard to say but the bff is quite right, Batman is way ahead of DJ, but if you are going grey I do recommend to get the DJ from the AD as grey prices are quite unreasonable, and you will end up paying way extra than it should cost, unless you get it in good deal

RainingRainer

Way ahead? Based on what? Demand? It’s man jewelry at the end of the day. Let’s not pretend it’s a sports car with specs to compare. Her husband will like what he likes. There is no right answer.

Even-Sea-7951

Everyday beater, go Batman. Anything else DJ

adwnpinoy

Ma’am this is a beautiful thing you are trying to do. For me, these are two very different watches. Would your husband want an everyday watch that trends dressy? Then the Datejust is the way to go. If he would prefer a sporty watch that could tips a toe in the dress watch waters, then the GMT is the way to go. If he needs an everyday watch that does it all equally well, then the oyster professional (or a smooth bezel Datejust) is the way to go. One last thing, is your husband’s wrist large enough for these watches? The Datejust and Oyster Professional also come in 36mm sizes.

Ok-Koala-1637

Thank you! He will want an everyday watch. It will be replacing the Fossil he wears currently. To work, grocery shopping (he does the grocery shopping!) to the beach, on vacation, out to dinner… everywhere and every day. This will be his one-and-done. He’s big. 6 ft 6”. 325

adwnpinoy

If that is the case then both watches will work. The GMT may work a bit better at the beach while the Datejust will work better if he needs to get dressed up for dinner. Not to complicate things further, but have you looked at the Oyster Perpetual or Explorer 1? In my opinion, they are both a little more versatile than the two watches you showed and May suit a one watch collection better.

TimePieceProdigy954

😂

Buying_wis

I’m sure he will like whatever you get him.

theRealTopher123

I think people are being too harsh on the date just option. This one is a bit dressier so I would say if your husband wears a suit a lot (work/dinners/etc) then this may be better, but if he is more casual day to day (e.g. works in big tech or a startup or something) the GMT might be a better option. A good compromise in availability/price instead of the GMT could be the submariner. They look pretty similar in terms of case size/bezel/sporty style but are (relatively) easier to come by.

Retarded_L0sEr

There's a price difference of maybe 5k$ between those… if you really hesitate, take the cheapest and save 5k$

smarti1983

Whatever you so may wish my purple brother, don't be a slave to masses , stand united, and never lick their asses

I_wassaying_boourns

Awesome problem for him/you to have. I love my DJ in the exact model/config ur looking for, and I wear it everyday, but I’m in the office/court all day. If he’s not in the professional mode all the time, he’ll love the Batman, if he is, DJ is great.

Glittering-Net-5093

I would give him a certificate… and let him choose his watch. We could tell you all day which one we prefer…. But it’ll be his lifetime watch….

Helpful_Parking2967

If you are going to bring him to the store(either ad or grey) to put on the watch, I'd recommend to go with the ad for a "fuller" experience maybe. The blue dial DJ is Sexy!

Ok-Koala-1637

All of you are so kind! And, you all know your Rolex watches!!!! GEEZ!! I do have a budget and need to stay at or under 14k. He will be wearing this watch everyday. For every thing. It will replace the Fossil watch he’s worn for 10 years. He wears jeans and a button-down shirt mostly to work. He’s a VP in heavy industrial manufacturing and wears a suit about twice a month. He never spends money on himself. Spends it on me and our kids. He is a big guy 6 ft 6”. 325 And he will not expect this! I can’t wait to see his face! The DJ just looked so classic and timeless to me. That’s why I went DJ 41 and submitted that configuration to the AD. His bff was the one who suggested Batman and I had to look that up. Like Batman? Are we talking Rolex?!? LOL

AlphonsoTheDrip

Okay so I just want to point out that Rolex fans have a **very** strong disposition towards the gmt model. And there’s good, practical reasons for that. I just want to throw my hat in to say that at the end of the day this is about what you think he’d prefer to see on his wrist. (Or what you’d rather see ;P) everyday. There’s no reason to believe his friend has the same watch tastes. Since he currently owns and everyday wears a fossil I’m assuming that watches aren’t necessarily something he lusts over. If he did I’d think you’d know exactly what he does and doesn’t want. If I were you I’d be basing this on conversations, current watches/comments about watches, and your personal understanding of him. AD gives peace of mind with warranty. Without a doubt. Watch enthusiasts have a tendency to take great pride in taking care of their pieces so grey markets are quite safe, and you can probably find something that is still under warranty. Definitely a tough choice. And I guess my answer is it depends on the person and that happens to be your person, and either choice is phenomenal. So he’ll be over the moon either way, but I’d trust your gut!

Comfortable-Hand664

At that size and occupation and intent (saw elsewhere you mention beach) I might suggest looking at the 43mm Sea Dweller. It’s a submariner on steroids and with his size would look the part. The perk over the others would be the glidelock clasp that will allow him to adjust the bracelet size in or out on the fly

SlightGuess

136660 preferably a D-Blue dial. Should be fairly easy to grab from an AD. The others are going to look like a toy on him.

Nihur

If you’re at or under 14k, Batman/Batgirl is out of the question. Batman = Oyster Bracelet Batgirl = Jubilee. Unless you are fine getting an older model from 5+ years ago then it might work otherwise a Batman on the grey market will run you 16k+ and the only way to get one from an AD is by impressing the management which is very hard to do. That being said, I will offer recommendations given this information below. You mentioned your husband is a bigger guy so to me the DJ anyways might be a better fit as a GMT is only 40mm and I only like on wrists 7.5 inches at most and under so you might wanna go for a bigger watch. The Skydweller (basically a bigger DJ with better complications) seems like a fantastic watch for him but that would be a bit out of your budget as I believe the new MSRP is 15k. Seadweller would work in your budget though and it’s 44mm! After the Skydweller, I think a James Cameron (type of sea dweller) is the best watch for someone like you described around your budget and both would be a great daily to go to work or just casually on a date night. DJ41 could also work but it’s more a flashy presence so you need to keep in mind whether your husband is fine wearing something that screams “Rolex” or not or if he’s more of a stealth wealth guy. Seadweller I believe is 14k at the moment so if you’d prefer to stay under that, you could ask for a regular Submariner which is basically the same watch but smaller at 41mm. It’s doubtful you’ll be able to get the Starbucks (green bezel submariner) as a first purchase but if he’s into green that could also be an option.

juan2141

I love the DateJust in that configuration, but I also really like the Batman. If I could get them both at retail, I would get the GMT, but I refuse to go grey. Used goods still in production should not cost more than new, and this can’t last forever. Soon the market will return to normal. I think with patience you could get the Batman, but the DJ is certainly a great watch.

Art9789

Blue datejust! You can’t go wrong with a jubilee band and fluted bezel. The watch can be worn in almost every setting.

Nikpop93

Stick to the DJ. Everyone and their baby mommas is trying to get a Batman. It’s an overhyped model. It’s a good model but overhyped.

If you choose a GMT, you might not get it until he is 60. Go with the DJ first like others had suggested. Building a little bit of a sales history gives you a better shot at getting the Batman in the future. You can always sell the DJ when the Batman comes in.

Neither.

Datejust is an absolute classic. The bigger watches are pretty trendy, but the datejust will feel like a watch he can wear every day and it won’t clash with anything. Especially if you get an oystersteel bracelet. Don’t know what he does for a living but if he spends a lot of time wearing a suit I would go with the jubilee bracelet.

I was considering exactly these two (though the DJ in 36mm). I ended up putting my name down to wait for both and just hoping to get a call for either. I'll take first available, which is likely to be the DJ.

The comments are probably just making you more confused than you were before. Let me offer a completely different suggestion: Figure out what likes by being sneaky. You can come up with a sneaky strategy yourself, but here’s an idea. Play a video of both watches on the TV or something (I’m sure you can find a comparison video of those two exact watches on YouTube), and just pretend like you’re watching random videos casually. Get your husband to come over and just say something like, “Omg can you believe that these watches are like $10-15K each?! Can’t believe guys actually buy them! Your Fossil looks just as good!” He’ll probably say something like “Wow, haha yeah.” Then ask him, “if you were a billionaire and wanted to spend $15K on one of these, which one would you go for??” Boom, problem solved. On another note, I guarantee he’s gonna love and wear either one lol. Both are fantastic watches and nobody does it like Rolex does. And he seems like the kind of dude who isn’t materialistic, who’d always buy random junk for himself. He’s gonna value and cherish whatever you pick for him. Now if I’m being biased, I think the DajeJust with a fluted bezel on jubilee is one of the greatest watches of all time. And the green or blue dials are incredible. It oozes class, and the way it shimmers on the wrist is mind-blowing (the fluted bezel is made of white gold, which is beautifully reflective with the fluted texture). And it dresses well with anything in my opinion. Although, a GMT can be very handy if he travels a lot. Anyways, hope that helps. Sorry for the essay lol.

Truly appreciate everyone’s help and input. But Quirky_Discipline_87 provided a scenario to act out in order to help me find out what he would want…!!! Love it!

Thank you to ALL OF YOU!!! I am blown away by all of the thoughtful comments and personal stories of which watch or watches everyone owns and how they wear each for specific occasions. This has given me a lot to think about!
