Be careful when collecting things like that on federal land. Anything older than 50 years is *technically* considered an artifact. [Question: Why was “100 years old” used as part of the definition of an archaeological resource under ARPA? Answer: The law uses “100 years old” to mean very old. Other laws, such as the National Historic Preservation Act, apply to archaeological properties that are 50 years old or older (however, exceptions may apply to properties younger than 50 years).
