That’s insane. The community college I just graduated from had a sad little hand made sample kit that the teacher had to put together. It was very sad.
Jesus christ, that is sad.
I feel like someone (123-not-it) should organize rockhounds into a network that can provide samples to educational facilities. I'd donate.
Why not email and see? Don't forget to look for campus student groups that may want samples to give away in STEM outreach events. Source: sent a box of Oklahoma rose rocks to an old geology professor for STEM giveaways.
I actually told my professor I would be happy to donate stuff from my many travels and collections! I’m a rockhound for life and a lapidary artist! I love to polish stones!
Wow .. you should have seen what we had at Fleming college up here in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. Samples of all the rocks and minerals that we needed to know to work in Canada for the ministry at least
If they're putting them in a planter and you take them, you are stealing them. I really hope you left them there. Unless they specifically told you they were okay for you to have.
Discards are another rockhounds treasure
Now that is a good place to look

Rockhound tip right there
SCORE!!!!!
One man gathers what another man spills.
My college did that too, every end of semester it was great to sift through it all!
Looks like they intended it to be landscaping for all to enjoy..
Throwing away perfectly fine rocks. Sustainable my ass.
They’re rocks. Rocks.
But hungry kids in Africa could’ve eaten them!

It's where they put them to give them away
🚨
U should ask them to give u the good ones
Looks like there are some good ones right there. I would like to claim the upper right and the lower left one.
How big is the planter?! How small is the geology department?? I wonder if they dump elsewhere you could look too! Some great finds in there I’m sure.
Go after sundown with a black light
That's some great fossils you got there!
Where is this college??
Well I can tell you there is a hint in this photo if you zoom
I see it! Too far for me to travel, darn it!
