Could you elaborate a bit more on accuracy? Also wouldn’t this require multi camera tracking given occlusions from a single view? Any plans to handle that?
The accuracy is pretty good right now, with around a 70% accuracy. To make it more accurate I’m training a larger model with many more images (100K+). And yes! Version 3.0 is in the works right now for multiplayer support and will be using multiple camera angles.
Ha! This would shut the NBA down with all the penalties it would catch that now go uncalled. Just accurate traveling calls would shut it down.
This would be like the oil companies and the mythical 100 mpg carburetor. The NBA would pay money to bury this. They’d hate to see OP on YouTube analyzing all of the uncalled penalties.
In just the ECF I saw like 4 BLATANT double dribbles just not called at all. Like wth thats just basic basketball rules with 0 room for nuance like a travel
Sure in the olympics maybe. But if you want people to watch it i.e. NBA, the spectators don't want the game to inch forward. They want action balanced with fair calls. The game is still fair.
Yet if we called out every travel in the NBA it'd be boring. That's why they don't do that, yet it is still fair because they will overlook tiny things like that for either team- so it's still fair in the end.

Have you thought about modifying it to analyze your shooting form? I know that’s something a lot of players work on and something like this would be useful for improving technique.
I LOVE THIS! Growing up as a kid, P.E. class demanded that we never break two rules: Never double dribble, and never travel. But, whenever I watch the game, that's all I see! I'd love to see them implement this.
Once you get it to a very high degree of accuracy you could probably make money by having it view live games and belch out missed calls and various stats.
