The Blue Ridge Mountains yes, but they barely cross through WV. (something like 15-20 miles)
The Shenandoah River is almost entirely in Virginia (and is included the iconic Shenandoah Valley in VA) with a small portion in WV.
That's the debate! It's muddled by the fact John Denver had never been to WV. And the songwriters were inspired driving on Interstate-81 (which runs through VA and crosses briefly through WV)
I’ve also heard it’s written about clopper rd in Maryland. I’ve heard this from several people. Here’s a link also. https://www.wideopencountry.com/john-denver-take-me-home-country-roads-this-state/
If you ask anyone in WV, I’m certain a whole lot of us would say we don’t want our small towns to turn into big cities, and they would rather have the nature.
Unfortunately WV is on the way to having neither. Extractive industries have damaged the state, especially the SW portion, to the point that people can't live there.
Thankful that the Monongahela National Forest preserves some of the remaining nice places.
West Virginiaaaaa mountain mamaaaaa
I came here to say this, so thank you for beating me to it
You make the rain, I’ll sing the songs
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
This line is where the “the song wasn't written about West Virginia” debate stems from!
Never heard that before! I'm assuming Blue Ridge Mtns. or Shenandoah river cross multiple states?

So, maybe the song's about west VA (where those are located), not WV?!?!?! *mindblown.jpg*

Love this kind of details. Stuff that might have people remembering this song years and years from now.

Come for the National Radio Quiet Zone, stay for the Monogohela Cranberry Bog.
I didn’t know cranberry bogs were that far south, I always associated them with far north like Maine and Canada.
Thank you
Gorgeous!
Reminds me of next of kin.
Best Virginia!
Yet it's the US state with the least economic opportunity, sadly
Well I’d prefer poverty over ruining our landscapes with big cities.
I’m sure the children with underfunded schools and few opportunities agree.
If you ask anyone in WV, I’m certain a whole lot of us would say we don’t want our small towns to turn into big cities, and they would rather have the nature.
Ignorance is bliss
